Vardy and Drinkwater on the bench tomorrow

Cool. So tomorrow we'll see a glimpse of the starting team that will get us knocked out the Euros.

Channeling my inner Spurs fan: Hodgson will play the Spurs lot tomorrow, rest them for Tuesday, but play our players giving the Spurs ones a rest leading to a fresh Spurs squad for their game and a couple tired legs for us. It's a bleeddy conspiracy!!

Counter side to this is that he'll also rest the Liverpool players who play today too so they'll be rested for the game v Spurs. Also, the pace of international football is so much slower that Drinks and Vards will probably play at a far lower intensity than they're used to anyway.

I couldn't care less - the contempt Hodgson appears to have for our players mirrors the general contempt you hear dressed up as 'expertise' on forums and talk-ins with ex-pros. Everyone that 'knows best' knows we are top by fluke and our players are bang average.

Suits me, let them be a self-regarding, insular closed shop for all I care - when we win the league, and he still fails to pick our players, it will prove how our game is really run, by whom and to what end.

Good to see that some ex-pros can see through all the garbage, though. See Mike Pejic's take on it. (Article is currently accessible on the "news now leicester" site)

This won't be popular but as regards Vardy he's not exactly tearing it up at the moment is he?

Since Welbeck got back from a long term injury he's scored 3 goals in 5 games whilst Vardy's got 4 in the last 15.

Don't see any problem at all with Vardy on the bench especially if he starts at centre forward on Tuesday. The problem is that I suspect he won't start at centre forward on Tuesday.

Drinkwater should be in the team though, Henderson's an absolute joke.

Was thinking the same thing re: Vardy.

We can't complain about Rooney getting picked over Vardy citing reputation over form yet complain when Wellbeck is picked when his form is better than Vardy's.

I mean, we even have a thread debating if Vardy is playing injured or not.

Kane and vardy have 40 goals between them this season, yet he still only plays one of them. Same old crap with England, roll on a week on Sunday.

Was going to say this. Imagine a world where the top two Premier League goal scorers, with 40 goals between them and a varied style of play, are both English. And the manager chooses to play one of them!?

Away from home against the German midfield isn't a great place to make s debut. Danny will be fine with 90 minutes against an average Holland midfield.

It's JV that sticks with me. He really should be giving the two strikers a few games to get to know each other. Clearly I'd say it'll be two of Welbeck, Rooney, Kane and Stirridge that start.

I don't think there's any major issue here.

Woy will probably heavily rotate at HT both games as will Germany & Holland.

I don't think theres a conspiracy or a Spuds bias either, I think he is set in his ways and has set plans DD even breaking into the squad is a major thing!

I'm not saying Woy is right just accepting him for the vastly experienced set in his ways manager he is.

Yes, and only Kane (so far, anyway) will be fully fit. Welbeck (3 goals), Rooney (7) and Sturridge (4) have scored fewer League goals between them than either Kane or Vardey, and have played a total of 34 league matches - three more than Vardey.

Joke doesn't cover it. I used to love watching England, but tonight I hope Löw's "experimental" German side run us ragged, and show the world what a pr!ck Hodgson really is.

Edit: I just read this: http://www.goal.com/en/news/468/international-football/2016/03/26/21710102/- Don't need Germany: Hodgson's done it himself.

And this is why england are ****ing shit and will fail to win anything in the near and probably distant future.

Other countries laugh their assess off at our shite selection policies, the fact that rooney (who is past it anyway), coke fiend jack and welbeck are anywhere near in contention for a seat on that plane sums it up.

The german head coach knows more about vardy than that dinosaur roy.

On the flip side though Vardy has three assists in his last five, he's not scoring at a crazy rate any more with the changes in approach that our opposition have been making, but he's providing on a regular basis instead.

Who's Vardey?

Good, I hope they're on the bench Tuesday too so they come back to us fit as a fiddle for the title push.

I was thinking the same thing.

I also hope they don't go to the euro's either. I'd rather them sit on a beach for 3 weeks resting rather than being dragged round France to sit on the bench for 90 minutes for 3 games.

Surely would have made more sense to play tonight. England will have less possession tonight playing away against a top team. Surely that will suit drinkwater and vardy more as they are used to playing like this most weeks. Can't help but think playing away will suit both of them more with hitting teams on the break quickly.

Even with Drinky and Vards in the squad, the whole England set up just bores the tits off me. I haven't been excited as an England fan for the last 20 years. Same old same old shit. We'll get nowhere in these Euros as per usual. Can't be arsed with England anymore. Shame really, I was mad for it in the 80's and early 90's. Must be getting old...

Thanks for that I have 2 tickets for the Euro final in Paris just to see England  :(

I can see a logical reason why Woy would have Sturridge, Welbeck and Kane on the plane but I am not convinced by Rooney at all this season.   For me he has done nothing.    I fear that Vardy will miss out altogether.

In the midfield you can't really argue with Ali but Henderson has had a nothing season at Liverpool.   Drinky will be given the usual 10 minuteds to prove himself despite the fact that he is in the best midfield partnertship in the premier league.

I for one will be giving these games a miss.  England games just bore me these days.

Just heard Roy talking about the 'courage' of his team selection. Lallana and Welbeck out wide with Henderson in midfield.

I really, really dislike the twat.

Welbeck isn't the problem. He is probably the only forward we have that plays the wide role well. It's the fact Hodgson hasn't got a system for the set of players he chooses, he's an embarrassment.

Posted

So Roy has been called numerous things in this thread.

Hypothetical question - if he left tomorrow, who would you replace him with?

Posted

I am going to bit unpopular for posting this but I can see why he has picked Welbeck- he has made bit more impact in his recent games than Vardy and are more reliable England starter.  However then again, it could be just Roy picking his favourites anyway. The omission of Drinkwater is baffling though.

I always see it pointless to try and read a managers reasoning in team selection for internationals. Especially dinosaurs such as Roy. But maybe he's actually thinking of the title race and trying to give all the players time to recover. With Liverpool playing spurs on Saturday, and our game on the Sunday, I can't imagine that all those are chosen again and I would be absolutely amazed if vards and Drinky don't start on Tuesday. I would of liked to see Drinky in there with dier and Ali but hey Ho, lallana seems less effective by the week and Henderson has been bang average all season. I don't think either of them will be at Liverpool or with England next season.

Tbf Roy has said he will be mixing up the teams from friendly to friendly. So expect a changed team next week that will likely include Danny and Jamie
