Aorton6 Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 50/50 on this one, was a revelation at villa but has struggled at Liverpool.. Mainly down to the on-the-floor brand of football they play which doesn't suit him. Unsure as to whether he has the work rate and mentality or our squad which has created the right knit squad, however if he's utilised right I think him and vardy could be lethal. Excellent finisher and powerful in the air which with albrightens crosses could be a nightmare for defenders! At the right price would be a nice addition and add depth which is going to be crucial with the added games next year.
StanSP Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 if we can knock the laziness out of him, I'd be for this. But how hard that'll be I don't know.
CollinsLCFC Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 He was great at Villa, but the best of a bad bunch. They played to fit his style, he was the main man. He wouldnt be here, and therefore, wouldnt be great for us. Would be a decent squad player, but I can imagine he would want to be the main man again.
SpacedX Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 I can't believe I'm reading some of this...they guy is completely at odds with our game. He's never been the same since he returned from that injury. I don't care about his 'proven Premier League experience' or his past form, perhaps we should get Bruno back from Bolton too? He doesn't press or create - instead of chasing he expects the game to come to him, he appears to have forgotten the rudiments of the offside rule, he completely lacks the industrious work ethic that is the hallmark of everything that is LCFC, he regularly goes missing, his positional play and movement is atrocious and his first touch can be diabolical. He may well have scored that amazing volley on his debut in the pre season friendlies and quite possibly has the goal of the season to his name against Man U, but he also missed an open goal against us in our visit away on Boxing Day. I'm also aghast at the disdain directed at Leo, who has been superb and stepped up to the challenge when summoned. The suggestions that Christian Benteke is 'streets ahead' of Ulloa is as ****ing disrespectful as it is divorced from reality. Leo was massive for us last Sunday and besides running himself to the ground he held up and broke up play in a way that Benteke would be utterly incapable of. He can be similarly erratic in front of goal, and I concede they are both lethal in the air, but Leo has desire and fortitude that seems to have completely deserted Benteke. There is a reason why he won't figure in Klopps plans for an ultra fit pressing team so why should he fit in here? We're Premier League Champions ffs. If our eyes are on Merseyside, if anywhere given our ambition we should be looking across Stanley Park to Goodison in pursuit of the calibre and talent of Romalu Lukaku.

So what you are trying to say is... We shouldn't sign him? Just want to make sure.
cityfanlee23 Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 If he's under 20m then yeah I'd snap their arm off for him, providing he would work by our ethos he would be absolutely lethal.
kingfox Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 He doesn't work hard enough, a reason why Klopp doesn't play him often, therefore this should be a no go.
dylanlegend Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 I'd be very surprised if our scouting team sign someone like Benteke. He could be quality but is he worth the risk? We might as well sign Balotelli while we are at it
SpacedX Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 Players like Benteke will always polarise opinion. No doubting the natural talent, but it too frequently deserts him. There were similar opposing views during the Berahino discussion on here, particularly in terms of the risk factor.
FantasticMrFox&Son Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I think Benteke has "lost" a whole season this year at Liverpool, he seems a player lost in the situation at Anfield and totally without confidence. If they are looking to sell and are willing to take a loss on the deal, and the player is willing to play for a wage in line with the rest of the squad then YES. He's never been outspoken like Berahino, seems a quiet individual unlikely to disturb or disrupt the spirit of the squad. His last 2 seasons with Villa in a poor team he was an absolute beast, and with Claudio's approach to player management I think he could re-emerge as a quality striker.
RowlattsFox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I wouldn't be completely against signing him but it would have to be a decent price, and I'm not sure it will be. For that kind of money I'd be hoping upgrade on the Okazaki type player. As we've seen in recent weeks, Swansea apart, we have struggled to play our natural game and that will continue next season. Someone like benteke may be useful.
foxy boxing Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 not sure he would fit into our style of play (extremely poor version of lukaku) does not seem very high energy to me
les-tah Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 If he's under 20m then yeah I'd snap their arm off for him, providing he would work by our ethos he would be absolutely lethal. If Klopp couldn't inspire him to be a work horse then whats to say we can?
leicester4life Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Don't get this love of what Klopp can do or on this case can't do to Benteke? Who's to say Claudio can't? We've all seen how he's got the best out of Kasper, Simpson, Wes, Huth, Fuchs, Mahrez, Drinkwater, Kante, Albrighton, Vardy, Ulloa/Okazaki... if he and the scouting team think Benteke has something to offer us, who would go against him?
mozartfox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Does not inspire me this. Klopp is no mug. I hope we unearth some amazing new diamond they no one has heard of!
cityfanlee23 Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 If Klopp couldn't inspire him to be a work horse then whats to say we can? Klopp has barely given him a chance and favours different types of strikers it seems, Klopp hasn't really inspired anyone massively at Liverpool, They've been average as hell.

thegaffa Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 not sure he would fit into our style of play (extremely poor version of lukaku) does not seem very high energy to me I think calling him an extremely poor version of lukaku is very unfair especially as they are different types of striker, I would say he is a lot better version of ulloa (attacking wise)
MPH Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Season-long loan with a view to buying? Id go for this. That would give our sports science team a chance to get him in top shape and top mobility....
SpacedX Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Klopp has barely given him a chance and favours different types of strikers it seems, Klopp hasn't really inspired anyone massively at Liverpool, They've been average as hell. Are you serious? Jeez. Give him a full pre season and allow carte blanche over recruitment (which Brendan never had) and see what happens next season. I don't agree, he's already galvanised several key members of that squad and will develop and realise their potential - or those that he intends to retain. Benteke is not one of them and would be a poor acquisition for us.
Mezeker Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Klopp has barely given him a chance and favours different types of strikers it seems, Klopp hasn't really inspired anyone massively at Liverpool, They've been average as hell. this is a joke right? You can't be this stupid so I will assume it is. They will probably challenge for the title next year, meaning top 2.
Mezeker Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Its all about how much he will cost. The argument about him being lazy or that he cant fit into our way of playing is void; if he signs with us he will buy in to the team's concept.

That's not this year, if you read the reply my post was to you'd see it was in reply to someone implying klopp has failed to motivate him meaning he's not going to work out here. So yeah, not really sure what you're talking about.
