Nampalys Mendy

Drinky, Kante, King, James, Amartey, Mendy

if this guy joins we really don't need 6 first team CM's surely?

No discredit to King or James but they will be bottom of the list for games if this is our choice, if Kante stays I think James will be off and King unless he's happy with very few games...

Ideally Mendy will be coming in as a replacement for Inler/James which would leave us with outrageous CM options in a squad, important for all our competitions

Signing another French player may also help with keeping Kante, adding to the number of players that speak his first language and Kante would be told to help the guys settle in (I'm optimistic..)

Have you compared the statistics of Kante and Idrissa Gueye with Aston Vila?  :)

This is the closest comparison i've seen to Kante, many disregard him because he plays for Villa, but there is no doubt his stats are up there with Kante in the same role.

EDIT: The pass completion has an error here, Kante is 82% Gueye is 85%

Kante will be such a difficult player to replace if we have to. It isn't just the raw interception & tackle stats it's his incredible stamina that allows him to cover the entire pitch. That and the surging runs he sometimes makes turning defence into attack.

why are people comparing Kante's & Mendy's stats. They play total different roles for their current clubs & Nice & Leicester's style of play is polar opposites.

That's not to say Mendy can't succeed in a midfield 2 though, we just don't know.

Who says we will be playing with a midfield 2 next season ?

4-3-3 is always an option ...

James is off to Derby.

great signing, we wanted him before kante ,will not be as good as getting the ball back as kante but will have other better attributes

Looking at his stats and style of play I'd say he isn't a replacement for Kante at all. I think he's more comparable to James and Inler. A possession footballer, high pass accuracy and pass completion that likes to sit rather than create.

A midfield three of Mendy - Kante - Amartey we won't even need a defence!

sweet mother of god, imagine that midfield in the big games. We'd never concede :D

His only goal (so far ?) in Ligue 1.

Being a defensive midfield, he is the exact type of player you don't make highlights vid, because there is nothing "exceptional" to show, even though he makes a "exceptional" contribution to the team performance. You can watch Nice games if you want to get an idea of his play, it is all I can do for you.

He has played almost all of them, I've never seen him injured.

Nothing we didn't really already kow but it's on the BBC Sport gossip column.

Leicester have made an £8m offer for Nice midfielder Nampalys Mendy, 23, as they prepare for the possible departure of 25-year-old N'Golo Kante. (Daily Mail)

Really do think this guy will be in rotation system with drinky and kante.

I still don't think we will lose any of our big 3/4 players. Vardy kante mahrez and drinky.

Guys don't worry dilly ding dilly dong.

As long as it doesn't do for Kante what it did for Knockaert.

James is off to Derby.

The right decision for James, He's unlikely to feature much for us and needs game time somewhere. NP knows his strengths and can afford him the time to get up to match speed while recovering from his injury.

I'm sorry to see him go as I thought he was a very good player but this is the right decision for everyone. I'm sure once he proves his fitness it'll lead to a full transfer.

I certainly don't see him as Kante's replacement.

We'll be playing significantly more games next season, even more if we have good runs in the cups. We can't rely on Kante and Drinkwater to play 50+ matches, and have Matty James as a backup.
