Bayfox Posted 8 June 2016 Posted 8 June 2016 Unless of course the selling club has given us permission to talk to them. It can be a common tactic for a selling club who know they are going to lose a player who wants to leave- wait until personal terms are agreed and wehen they are, add another million onto the asking price/// not that many buying clubs will back out at that stage... This exactly. If they known he wants to leave and allow us to to agree personal terms, but club want 10 million, once you have agreed personal terms and the player and agent plus buying club are happy. You ask for 16 million. End up getting between 12 and 14 million. Selling club wins.
Ric Flair Posted 8 June 2016 Posted 8 June 2016 Are Lyon in the CL next season? Also there's no way they can pay what English clubs can pay so I think we'll be ok on this one. Unless he really doesn't fancy coming to England but if he's already provisionally agreed terms then I think this is just a case of trying to panic us in to paying the asking price.

Lyon also turned down £31.5m for Lacazette so they can't be sort of a few Quid.

I really do not vet what you are saying. Other than (I believe under 24 that can go to a tribunal)why as a buying club would you talk to and offer a player a contract unless the fee is agreed. As a selling club you would shot yourself in the foot letting another club talk to a player before a fee is agreed. All you would do is unsettle the player. I can't think other than youth products at the end of a contract where your point has ever happened.
Fuch Me Moore Posted 8 June 2016 Posted 8 June 2016 Fantastic signing, ship James out. (He can't cut it at the level we want to operate at)
sylofox Posted 8 June 2016 Posted 8 June 2016 Fantastic signing, ship James out. (He can't cut it at the level we want to operate at) And you know that how? We have never seen him in a top end prem side. And I can think of at least 9 of our first 11 we have not seen in the CL. MUST be good for moronic post of the year.
mozartfox Posted 8 June 2016 Posted 8 June 2016 Please get this man in quickly. The feel good factor will then return to FT. We need this Rudders, so please stop fuffing about over a few million euros.

Its just a way of squeezing an extra million or two out of the buying club... And this isnt meant as an insult, but you must not follow European football much if you are unsure if its ever happened. - Its a very common tactic to grant permission for the buying club to speak to a player before an agreement is reached...
1972 Fox Posted 8 June 2016 Posted 8 June 2016 Probably the wrong thread to talk about Matty James but he keeps being referred to on here. I'm not understanding why so many are writing James off? Before he was injured he was playing well and ahead of Drinky in the pecking order. Drinky has developed so well this season, so if he is over his injury why can't James do the same? He could still have a big role to play for us so selling him would be madness imo. If he needs to go out on loan for 3 to 6 months to get back to his best then that could benefit us and him.
weller54 Posted 8 June 2016 Posted 8 June 2016 Seems to me Rudders would be the sort to offer £1 for a £1.35 loaf in Tescos!

foxes21 Posted 8 June 2016 Posted 8 June 2016 being realistic, if we keep Kante for this season it is very very likely he will leave next summer. He is far too good, not to be playing for someone like Real Madrid. signing Mendy & loaning out James for a year is a win win. Mendy gets a year to settle & maybe be the one to replace Kante when he eventually leaves. And then we get a new improved James back from a seasons loan, to challenge DD/Mendy/King/Amartey.
Master Fox Posted 8 June 2016 Posted 8 June 2016 Why is Real Madrid or Barcelona any better than playing for Leicester? Total bollox if you ask me.

The Doctor Posted 8 June 2016 Posted 8 June 2016 It does make me laugh that people write this guy off because he isn’t Kante. Kante wasn’t Kante before we signed him, hardly saw other clubs queueing up to sign him. Fairly sure he was tbh.

Completely agree with this. Matty has kept pace with every step up the club has made while he's been fit. If we give him a chance, he could do it again. I also agree that a loan would be good for him. I recall Aaron Ramsey went on loan to Forest after his leg break. I don't remember him being brilliant for them when he played against us for the trees, but he returned to Arsenal fitter and able to get back to the level he was at before the injury and actually improve beyond it. I'd like to think we'd give Matty a shot at doing the same.

Your point about tribunals only applies if the player is out of contract and under 24. A tribunal would then set a compensation fee. So not sure what relevance that has in relation to a player under contract.
Karljohn Posted 9 June 2016 Posted 9 June 2016 Don't get all the ship James out nonsense. The guy had a serious injury, he's completely unproven at this level and is capable of doing what Drinky has done.

He was an integral part of the side that pulled off the great escape . Until his injury he was first on the team sheet alongside Drinkwater. Goodness me short memories , it was only a season ago and it was in the Premiership .
