Danny Simpson to miss parade and trip to Thailand - **Overturned On Appeal**

I find it disgusting that Danny Simpson literally tried to buy his way out of punishment. He knew exactly what he was doing (no doubt advised accordingly by his agent or similar) by bringing a supercar into the car park of a charity shop.

Whether he likes it or not he is a public figure who children and young men look towards (intentionally or not). His off-the-pitch behaviour is just as relevant as his on the pitch actions. It's ultimately why 3 players got sacked last year for off-the-pitch racism. Danny Simpson has tried to trivialise his crime demeaning the very real problem of violence against women in the process. It sends all the wrong signals to kids and young men. The club has been fantastic at PR and stepping in with Jamie Vardy's prior issues, 'thai-gate' and the recent hospital donation. I have no idea why they have not sent in the PR team to ensure Danny Simpson doesn't besmirch the club's well earned reputation by trying to wriggle out of justice.

I don't think he has publicly apologised either (I can't find one online but if he has then that needs to be publicised). The club has stood by him considering what he was accused and charged of. The least he can do is not be an entitled div in return.

Neither when I was a young boy, nor has an older citizen, do I like being patronised..

Of course there are kids who will jump off roofs, immitating superman..

cant protect them anyway...

Again dont like being patronised, nor my siblings and theirs.Kids know the difference,

They can see the knobheads, the criminal ellements, good, bad, duschbags, if they

have problems seeing/awareness of the unsavoury characters in our society,

its because ..THEY CHOOSE SO !!!!

God a society that loves big brother, crossroads, and silly celebs-antic programs

has a problem anyway..!!! :)

against it

Well said Col. My view entirely.

No worries DT. It isn't about how many cars he has, whether we've won the league etc etc. All that is a smokescreen to deflect away from the real issue...that he's gotten away with something (or its been 'deferred') when you,I or Joe Public wouldn't have had the privilege. That's wrong.

I'm assuming everyone in here is whiter than white and never done anything that remotely breaks the law...

Because of course all crimes are the same.

I've broken the law. Lost my first job because of it. That doesn't disqualify me from having an opinion on someone who tries to strangle a woman.

Like I said originally, though, I'm a hypocrite really because I support him when he's in the team.

Wow there's some bitter heads in here. Criticising the bloke for turning up in a car he owns? So what if it's a Lambo? The fella earns £40,000+ a week! He's obviously gonna own some expensive cars.

He tried to get out of his sentence because the press found out where he was doing his community service. The press found out because he had his Lamborghini parked outside the charity shop/care home. He chose to be conspicuous and then used it as an excuse. It's very hard not to suspect his motives, my guess is that's how the judge saw it too.

You're talking out of your arse if you think kids are looking up to Danny ****ing Simpson, lets be fair.

Him and Tulisa are real role models :)

But seriously people do deserve a chance. Never understood the do not forgive brigade.

That's what the courts are for. Do the crime, do your time or whatever punishment is selected and then get on with your life.

I don't give a shite who Danny Simpson is.

He wasn't fined because the judge said it was pointless. ...He has 'too much money'

So he was given a curfew and now that is being overturned because to impose it now 'might harm the team spirit'!

WTF!

Where this is so wrong is that if this was you or I this wouldn't make any difference. Because Simmo is now a succesful footballer, it somehow Does? That stinks.

100% right mate!

Very hard for any young man on mega bucks and in the public eye to be a 'role model' . He's done the crime and is now doing the time. Not sure what everyone expects of him and what you think of him is your own personal opinion.

...And not based upon the fact that he was caught strangling his partner? Unbelievable and classic FT.

Let me ask you this. What do you think of him based upon your personal opinion?

On the one thread we have some members defending Danny Simpson, because as a footballer apparently it doesn't matter what you do off the pitch. After all, we all make mistakes, and I'm sure accidentally throttling your partner could happen to anyone. Meantime over on another we learn that Gary Lineker is not a very nice person based upon a 'few people have said' and 'common knowledge'. Oh, and the fact that he didn't give Country Fox an autograph at an airport once...

Met him at an airport once. Very arrogant and rude. Knob.

Back to DS, I'll tell you what I think of him based upon my 'personal opinion'. He's got his head down, worked hard, taken his chance and put in some outstanding performances for us after some lacklustre showings last season. Completely transformed his game and is possibly then most improved player in the squad. For that I commend him, but I didn't want to see him in a City shirt again. I don't think he should have had that opportunity. The club clearly gave him a second chance but they should have immediately let him go and with it, any association with spousal abuse. That's the message that they should have sent out.

PS re the Lamborghini issue - N'Golo Kanté didn't have a car until some kind soul loaned him a...wait for it...Mini! It's all about ego.

so? n'golo is pretty much a one off in terms of modern footballers.

If you have kids you should be their role model, not a footballer.

Exactly. It always amazes me how many people apparently want professional footballers to take over their parenting duties.

Agree. A concept that was completely lost on Tipper Gore and the self righteous PMRC censorship movement of the '80s.

In spite of this, I don't think that anyone on here is suggesting anything otherwise. Kids do tend to blindly idolise though - frequently in the case of footballers and often their transgressions can seem vindicated. Consequently the players indirectly find themselves in a position of responsibility and accountability in addition to being ambassadors to the football club that they represent. Sunderland made a huge error not suspending Adam Johnson during the investigation and particularly when they became privy to the sordid details.Though not comparable, rightly or wrongly, Simpson's actions continue to besmirch the club and I'm surprised that upon conviction the club didn't immediately distance themselves from domestic violence through his immediate dismissal.

Credit to the fact that he has seized this opportunity, completely turned his game around and has largely been outstanding this season. I have no doubt that he feels tremendous remorse and regret and who is to say that this experience hasn't morally transformed his life? That he should have been afforded that chance in a City shirt is something that the jury will remain out on - particularly on this forum.

What an idiot!! That's nothing to proud of!

Maybe we're all misunderstanding. Maybe he had just vomited on his shoes and was showing people?

He's showing that he hasn't got it on. Which is why he's there.

He's got over a hundred hours community service to do rather than spend a few nights at home. I know what I'd rather do.

Clearly he appreciates the fans and wants to say thank you to us and to spend more time with his team mates.

So how about we stop shooting him down from our high horses and appreciate that he's a man who has done a lot for us and wants to change?g

Wants to change? Seemingly joking about the fact that he was caught throttling the mother of his child, and then bought his way out of a curfew punishment & tag doesn't say to me that he is particularly sorry about anything or wanting to change.

It just shows if you are successful you can be forgiven by fans for anything, any other season and he would have probably been booed for what he did.

I was thinking he was showing the boot he kicked his girlfriends head with?????

When has he ever joked about being caught throttling his girlfriend?

He's merely caught enjoying himself as he's been allowed to go. He's bot bought his way out of anything as he's been given what most would call a worse punishment.

Seems to me like people are so desperate to take a moral high ground that they're not looking at facts.

What he did was wrong and he's paying for it. There is nothing else he can do now.

I hate to disagree with you Col because you are a rounded man and I love you. I love everybody.

BUT...In my line of work I see on a daily basis (more than once everyday) little scrotes with criminal histories longer than my arm regularly getting curfews varied/lifted to do such menial things as 'go to a birthday party of an uncles second cousin removed'. The Magistrates/Judges rarely EVER refuse an application to vary a curfew. In this instance I don't think Simpson being a footballer or rich has made any difference. If most people on here knew what prolific offenders, sex offenders and paedophiles got away with on a daily basis they would be outraged and disgusted. Genuinely. I've seen people who have committed disgusting, horrific crimes literally walk away with 100hrs unpaid work. I regularly have one chap who varies his curfew religiously once a fortnight and it gets done every single time. Honestly, if people knew the true state of our justice system, or lack of one it would horrify them.
