fuchsntf Posted 13 May 2016 Posted 13 May 2016 Alot of kids are worse than their so called roll models, thanks to their parents. I wish the media would stop this theme of putting sportsmen/women on a pedastal. Like many players who shown no social discipline before him, going back to way back when!! He had/has to be seen serving his punishment, and yes I think in all circumstances a public apology, plus to the victim would be humbling, and one can draw the line. I dont blame the media in this case, they are serving the community even if its often for the wrong reasons, from a spitefull anything for a story journalists. We live in a free-land, our journalists and media thankfully are not supressed, with that Comes also the unsavoury, annoying reports, plus self appointed do-gooders. Simpson is serving his society agreed sentence, hes been a knobhead, at least 80% Of WWide fans know or are aquainted, with temper-issues, and over aggresive souls. If they reign it in and learn from and understand their faults, then if no repeats, without mitigating circumstance. Then they deserve to get their life's chance, without being witchhunted for past mis-endeavours.Though from the football terraces our humour will kick it around for awhile, no matter what the issue.Lifes balancing-scales..!! Simpson has been given a second chance, lets hope he is clever enough to grasp it, using his part in a sporting achievement, to smooth out his path. Hes got a talent, I hope he can keep this level up in Leicester colours, but like all sportsman he has to earn further plaudits, private and footballing wise.
reynard Posted 13 May 2016 Posted 13 May 2016 I'd say this was about right http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/should-feel-sorry-danny-simpson-7960937 So this wonderful rag thinks it is all about retribution and humiliation. If we really want to humiliate them lets make them walk naked through the streets and have the population chuck dog sh1t all over them. The outcome is now exactly as it should have been. His punishment was set by the courts and whether we agree or not it should be allowed to be carried out without being interfered with by the press. Unfortunately the nature of mankind is such that we are not perfect. We should not condone his type of behaviour but we should acknowledge that it goes on at the same time we should try to make sure that such people are helped to become decent members of society and that they do not re-offend. For The Mirror to claim he has not been properly punished is pathetic. Simpson must seize his chance and reform his ways as society has given him the chance to do.
GaelicFox Posted 13 May 2016 Posted 13 May 2016 What car he drives is not important. If he didn't turn up to community service at all then that is a far bigger issue. He's rich, he's going to buy an expensive car, it's an irrelevant part of the story. It actually was his defence , the Press intrusion , caused by them being fixated by £250k cars parked outside age concern
TheSomersetFox Posted 13 May 2016 Posted 13 May 2016 Simmo's been an absolute warrior for us this year. Good on him with this as far as i'm concerned, happy it's been overturned.
fuchsntf Posted 13 May 2016 Posted 13 May 2016 It actually was his defence , the Press intrusion , caused by them being fixated by £250k cars parked outside age concern even then, the idiots got it wrong...my hells angel grandad and mates had just parked their souped up invalid scooters, and motorised walking frames...all cabrios of course!!!
bovril Posted 13 May 2016 Posted 13 May 2016 Interesting debate. I can't agree with the people who say "don't care what he's like off the pitch". I don't care that much if players act like twats, let off fire extinguishers in hotels, get into fights in pubs when they were younger or whatever. But what this guy did makes him something of a scumbag, let's be honest. Having said this I'm a massive hypocrite as I was happy for him to be part of the team when it became clear how integral he was to our defensive turnaround.

Also interesting that many say Ched Evans shouldn't get a second chance, yet if he was a member of a team that was successful, attitudes might be somewhat different.
ScouseFox Posted 13 May 2016 Posted 13 May 2016 It actually was his defence , the Press intrusion , caused by them being fixated by £250k cars parked outside age concern if he can afford a nice car then he's allowed to drive a nice car. he's got community service as a sentence, not a ban on nice things.
moseeds Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 I find it disgusting that Danny Simpson literally tried to buy his way out of punishment. He knew exactly what he was doing (no doubt advised accordingly by his agent or similar) by bringing a supercar into the car park of a charity shop. Whether he likes it or not he is a public figure who children and young men look towards (intentionally or not). His off-the-pitch behaviour is just as relevant as his on the pitch actions. It's ultimately why 3 players got sacked last year for off-the-pitch racism. Danny Simpson has tried to trivialise his crime demeaning the very real problem of violence against women in the process. It sends all the wrong signals to kids and young men. The club has been fantastic at PR and stepping in with Jamie Vardy's prior issues, 'thai-gate' and the recent hospital donation. I have no idea why they have not sent in the PR team to ensure Danny Simpson doesn't besmirch the club's well earned reputation by trying to wriggle out of justice.I don't think he has publicly apologised either (I can't find one online but if he has then that needs to be publicised). The club has stood by him considering what he was accused and charged of. The least he can do is not be an entitled div in return.

TheLittleBigMan Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 He throttled his missus for fu*ks sake. He got done for it and should take his punishment and shut up. I don't care how well he's played, he's lucky to be wearing the shirt.
ozleicester Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 Guy is a wife beater, has been punished and is doing his punishment quietly and by all appearances appropriately. If he is rehabilitated and is no longer a threat, then its a good outcome and he should be able to live his life.
TheLittleBigMan Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 I don't think turning up in a lambo, then trying to get out of community service is doing things quietly. We don't need this publicity. Everyone deserves the chance to turn things around but he hasn't finished his punishment yet and shouldn't be making waves over it.
stripeyfox Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 People who see him as a violent thug are ****ing idiots and I'd say the same if he was playing for my club or someone else's. He lost his shit and saw red for a split second and laid his hands on his girlfriend/wife (not sure which one she is). He made a split-second mistake - we're all human, we're all prone to losing our temper. I'm not in any / way / shape / form saying that what he did was OK / right / excusable but what are we going to do - lock him up? throw away the key? ruin his career forever because he ****ed up once? If he went out and did the same thing again then fair enough - throw the book at him as it would make it clear he was a repeat offender and incapable of learning / change / remorse. He has taken his punishment, done his community service and shown a good attitude ever since - he deserves to be allowed to continue with his life and move on. The way some people take the moral high ground is incredible - like they've never done anything wrong EVER in their entire ****ing lives. That's an interesting spin on it to make a violent abusive man sound like he had a momentary loss of temper. The truth is that due to the victim not wishing to testify, we will likely never know, however he certainly "lost his shit" for sufficiently long enough for the victim to make a terrified 999 call in which she was pleading with Simpson to "get off me" and had still not "found" his shit by the time the police arrived and had to drag him off her as he sat on top of her with his hands round her throat. In general though I agree that he appears at least to have knuckled down and got on with it. Who knows, he may well be on a final warning from the club. I doubt many posters on here would find their own employers to have much sympathy if they found themselves guilty of being a wife-beater. However, as I said before, a bit more humility on his community service would have been a good idea. A 10 minute cab ride (or heaven forbid, the bus) may have been a more sensible transport option. And then, having created a press storm, his lawyer tried to buy him out of it. Now hopefully he can complete his club commitments, get on with his community service over the summer and hopefully learn something. Whether or not us "fans" care or not about off field conduct, an employer of any description will only allow so many private transgressions before firing someone - a person's conduct away from work can have a big effect on his/her work.
Guest Col city fan Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 I don't give a shite who Danny Simpson is. He wasn't fined because the judge said it was pointless. ...He has 'too much money' So he was given a curfew and now that is being overturned because to impose it now 'might harm the team spirit'! WTF! Where this is so wrong is that if this was you or I this wouldn't make any difference. Because Simmo is now a succesful footballer, it somehow Does? That stinks.

You're not going to be late in a Lambo I don't understand why people were giving him shit over that, if you earn thousands and thousands of pounds a week you don't need a modest car. If he'd have turned up in an old Corsa the headlines would have been "Million footballer takes piss out of working class by driving shit car"

GingerrrFox Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 Wow there's some bitter heads in here. Criticising the bloke for turning up in a car he owns? So what if it's a Lambo? The fella earns £40,000+ a week! He's obviously gonna own some expensive cars. I'm assuming everyone in here is whiter than white and never done anything that remotely breaks the law...
Countryfox Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 Very hard for any young man on mega bucks and in the public eye to be a 'role model' . He's done the crime and is now doing the time. Not sure what everyone expects of him and what you think of him is your own personal opinion. Perhaps he can buckle down now and model himself on the England captain, Mr Rooney, who runs around the pitch like a demented tw@t and gobs off to refs at every opportunity.
Munshi Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 Ffs bet some people wish we still played De laet at right back
Charl91 Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 Ffs bet some people wish we still played De laet at right back Of course not. It's just some people don't think that winning the league means you can forget that someone tried to strangle their missus. A lot of hypocritical people on here that would be outraged with a player for doing such a thing if they were shit, but then conveniently forget if it's someone successful.
ARTY_FOX Posted 14 May 2016 Posted 14 May 2016 Personally I'm of the opinion that people deserve a second chance. He made a mistake maybe it will happen again maybe it won't. Who's to say he hasn't learnt from this and has changed for the better?
