Fleetwood to get 25% of any Vardy transfer fee...are there any other sell on clauses lurking

Absolutely sure we could've got more than £20mil if it wasn't for that release clause.

I despair sometimes.

Maybe to get Vardy in the 1st place we had to agree a sell on clause with Fleetwood.  They were under no obligation to sell.

Has it occurred to anyone that perhaps the release clause in the "old" contract was a hell of a lot lower - perhaps 5 mill?  Maybe the scramble to get Vardy on a new contract was down to this?

Club want a 30 mill clause.  Agent wants 10 mill.  Agent says to Vardy in january - "wait until the summer you can go for 5 mill, imagine the signing on fee"

Club, player and agent settle on 20 mill.

It isn't incompetence by the club.  The player and his agent are holding most if not all the cards.  I wish him well IF he goes.  I've seen to many one season wonders to get too wound up by this.

Fleetwood 33/1 to win the league next season. Cracking odds that, they're not exactly poor as it is. Need to remember my Bet365 account details and whack a fiver on that bad boy.

£10m would have been laughed out the door.

But you are right, there would have been negotiation, probably between £15m and £25m which seem more like respectable numbers. The club put the CL team clause in to narrow it down thinking the other teams wouldn't want him. Especially not Arsenal given their style of play is so different. I do think though, given the 25%, they could have and should have got a higher release clause.

Maybe the only way he'd sign a new deal earlier this year was if a £20m clause was inserted?

But had 2 and half years left on his current one. So just tell him we will look at his contract at the end of the season and be done with it.

How could someone with 2.5 years on contract to go leave for £5m ?????

Really that's a good post ???

It makes NO sense

He was still contracted till 2018 with NO clause !!!

There was no real rush to get a new deal done. He signed it in February so he was here until the end of the season anyway. Unless it was a low release clause we didn't need to insert one because we could've started a bidding war. If they thought £20 million would deter top clubs after this season then questions need to be asked.

If Fleetwood get 25% then we've basically given away our top striker. Man United wouldn't listen to offers of £15 million for Rashford and he's played about 15 games. Release clauses should be a deterrent, but we've helped other clubs out when we didn't really need to. If Vardy had to stay because we rejected bids I'm sure he'd have coped.

Fleetwood are in League One, not Non League lads.

Exactly. It might be enough money to help them stay up and buy 3 or 4 new players, it certainly isn't buying them the league. They only just stayed up this year

Someone once said.. do your math, 25% of nothing still remains nothing..

Fleetwood mac, will have a better chance of making a bonus..

Pubs in M.harborough want to keep the Vardy party on their doorsteps.

Vardy got turned down trying to get in a London N.club

That was Drinkwater chief

You really think that agents don't insist on a release clause in EVERY contract?

It costs them and the player nothing.

BTW they also include rights to the players name, boots, merchandising, advertising, tv appearances, end of season "goodwill" tours etc etc etc.  There's a bit more to a players contract than £30 winter, £20 summer these days.

And yes, there would have been release clause in the old contract, just as there was a clause to give him a pay rise if he played for England!

after so many mistakes, I am still good enough to be chief...

I was using poetic licence.

Drinkwater couldnt get in the london club nor Hodgsons squad,

didnt want to mention him again..

How do yo know he had no clause. These things are not common knowledge & neither the club or the player are beholden to announce them at the time of signing. Most contracts have a variety of causes in them

People seem to forget or don't know that the owner of fleetwood has thrown crap loads of money on them for years hence their rise from non league, 5 million is nice i'm sure :)  but they've got plenty anyway.

Just about to say the same thing. We're not talking about a side like Northampton that has been on the brink recently.

Fleetwood spent shitloads on a top of the range training facility.

Would be nice if they spent a bit of money upgrading the stadium a bit. All of the Blackpool fans will go there eventually.

I'd call Highbury rustic to say the least!

Are you nuts lol

His agent Would have had him sold in January if there was a chance he could be sold for 5m

Agents release all these details and if he could have gone for 5m this summer he would have signed no contract that's guaranteed !

It seems They have been hawking him all over the place some the day after the league was won
