Tuna Posted 18 June 2016 Posted 18 June 2016 The idea that we'd be looking at someone like this amuses and scares me in equal measure.
iamafox Posted 18 June 2016 Posted 18 June 2016 With the quality of defenders we already have, he wouldn't get into our team.
TJB-fox Posted 18 June 2016 Posted 18 June 2016 Our one back up centre half is 36 and will have to play in the opening game due to Huth's suspension. Can't believe the snobbery on here. Seems like people will only be happy if we go for billy big bollocks players for 30m. We need to pad this squad out. We got fortunate with a small amount of injuries last season. With the demands of Europe this squad will be stretched. Bringing in good English talent for next to nothing is good business. I'd be half pressed to suggest that people are judging him without seeing him play, merely by the club he plays for. So you think I'm a snob just because I'm not massively keen on a player, haha you're a joker mate.I quite like Dunk, seen a lot of him and think he can develop into a good sturdy centre half, doesn't necessarily mean I want him at my football club? I didn't say anything about wanting to go out and buy big name players and spending millions and millions. I'm entitled to my opinion and my opinion is that I don't want him because I don't think he'll be good enough for the champions league or the premier league next season for us, not because I'm a snob. Just thought I'd clear that up, pal.
MPH Posted 18 June 2016 Posted 18 June 2016 We need to push on!!!! Will Keane Deeney Dunk hardly names affiliated with a team that has won the league But names linked with a team that needs to meet the quota of home Grown players for their champions league squad...
Tuna Posted 18 June 2016 Posted 18 June 2016 I wouldn't be against signing him and loaning him back for the season.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 18 June 2016 Posted 18 June 2016 It's a similar situation to Keane of Burnley. These two would probably not be first team starters in the CB position so it's whether they'd be happy to be potenially cover. He's made 127 appearances for Brighton which is impressive, considering that is at championship level which is decent enough.
Munshi Posted 18 June 2016 Posted 18 June 2016 Bloody hell, have a bit of perspective lads. If anyones actually watched him, he was one of the best if not the best centre back in the championship last season and has performed consistently for Brighton over the last few years. Great at attacking set pieces and is a real leader and organiser in the defence. Reminds me of John Stones a bit just less prone to errors and more do what it takes to get it out. 7 million in the current market would be pretty decent business. Chill.
Jimothy Posted 18 June 2016 Posted 18 June 2016 We need to push on!!!! Will Keane Deeney Dunk hardly names affiliated with a team that has won the league Kante, Mahrez, Vardy, Albrighton, Morgan, Simpson etc hardly signings you'd associate with a team hoping to win the lea.......oh wait.
katieakita Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Dear me people, this time last year there was panic on here. Pearson gone, a new manager passed his best before date a 2nd choice keeper near retirement 2 poor left backs Konch and Jeff, 2 poor right backs RDL and Danny bloody Simpson, Calamity Morgan, Wasy being to old, Moore bang out of form and us hoping to bring in the Stoke reject Huth. In midfield we had Matty Jams out and if the main man Cambiasso didn't stay only DD and Kingy to play in midfield, we had lost Knocky and were hoping Mahrez and Albrighton would keep their form and up front we were hoping Kramaric would find his feet with either Ulloa, Vardy or Nugent and Susan Whelan had the nerve to come out and say trust the board they know what they are doing. Bringing in the Stoke outcast and a freebie from the German league and finding out we actually had a decent right back seemed to sort out the defence,Cambiasso moved on we brought in the Swiss national Captain to replace him but he could not get a game because we found some little French guy with a funny sounding name nobody had heard of and about 5th choice according to various media reports who seemed to gel with DD who stepped up a level, Albrighton and Mahrez did the business and we got rid of Nugent, Wood and Kramaric and brought in a Japanese guy we had been after and not some £20 million striker we were after who worked well with Vardy who found his feet. In January we even brought in a couple of youngsters for the future in Amartey and Grey. Probably should have given us optimism to stay up at least. So understanding the fact newspapers need to be sold and if we buy 1/4 of the players we are apparently on the verge on signing we will start the season with a first team squad of around 200 i am not that concerned with whoever we bring in. Going to be a bit boring on this and say I probably have reason to trust the scouting ability of Walshy and his team
TJB-fox Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 It's hilarious that some people come onto this website, which is an online forum (last time i checked) in which debates based on opinions can occur, and expect people not to have an opinion or criticise it because they think they know best
chicagofox Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Would agree to the idea of signing him if next season's target is to avoid relegation. This should be the first target.

Babylon Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Watched him a few times last season, he has no discipline and regularly loses his head - not the type of player we'd usually go for. What like Robert Huth or Was... Two players people said the same about.
Babylon Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 We need to push on!!!! Will Keane Deeney Dunk hardly names affiliated with a team that has won the league Neither were Danny Simpson, Drinkwater, Morgan, Albrighton etc etc. I just honestly cannot believe the attitude of people who still go on about signing "names". What we've achieved, has been done so by not signing "names".
Sly Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 He's always stood out for me whenever I've watch Brighton. He's a decent defender and we need to add solid squad members. Would he be first choice, no. Would he do a decent job if called upon, yes. Not so sure on the Champions League registration. Inthink we need 8 Players trained in this country before they were 21 if I'm right. 4 being from Leicester itself. King - Leicester Schlupp - Leicester Chilwell - Leicester Moore - Leicester Drinkwater - England Zieler - England De Laet - England Vardy - England James - England Morgan - England Albrighton - England Gray - England Simpson - England Lawrence - Simpson So we have more than enough Currently
HankMarvin Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Neither were Danny Simpson, Drinkwater, Morgan, Albrighton etc etc. I just honestly cannot believe the attitude of people who still go on about signing "names". What we've achieved, has been done so by not signing "names". We hadn't just won the league and have champions league football to play. Deeney at 32 million Keane 10 million Are not players on frees or bargain basement signings, if it was 10 million for the pair fine, but over 42m for that type of player is farcical.
FireFox Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 @@Sly Chilwell doesn't really count. He's still an U21 and we can have as many U21s as we want for our Champions League squad, regardless of where they were trained. (So same goes for Gray currently.) Also you forgot Huth.

Right, so your point has now switched from them not being "names", to the prices we're paying? Just because we've won the league doesn't mean we're going to change the strategy that has served us well. Irrespective of prices and names, we'll continue to identify players who will fit into our system and fit in here as people. If they end up being someone from Birmingham rather than Barcelona nobody should care so long as they perform. People moaned about wanting Deeney for £12m a year or so ago. Well if we'd signed him then we'd have saved ourselves a fortune. If we signed someone like Dunk and he proves himself at this level he'll we worth way more than what we pay.

Reg Vardy Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Dunk 24, Wes and Huth in their thirties...it's called succession planning, only watched him on tv, passionate, committed, leader, decent footballer.....one we'll be saying he was a steal in two years.....regards Keane, any footballer who has come through Man Uniteds youth set up has talent(including Lawrence Barmby etc) Drinkwater, James, DeLaat, Simpson, it's a case of getting that talent to be realised....prefer Dunk over Keane, but two decent footballers in their early 20's who flourish could take care of the next ten years....trust the team....

HighPeakFox Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Hmmmm who to listen to? The tabloids, you boys, or just wait and see what the club does?
Buzzell Posted 19 June 2016 Posted 19 June 2016 Never seen this guy play so can't really judge him but if the club thinks he's good enough then fair enough. Get him in.
