I am not sure whether I should be concerned about this or not. We do have a lot of pace, but we don't have much height (see below). I wonder how we compare to other clubs. From what I've seen, we do look quite short and with Musa and Mendy, our average height has just gone down a bit more. I guess we won't be scoring many goals from set-pieces, but I am wondering how we will be able to compete in the air in the middle of the pitch.

Mendy, 5'6"

Kante, 5'7"

Musa, 5'7"

Okazaki, 5'9"

Albrighton, 5'9"

Mahrez, 5'10"

Drinkwater, 5'10"

Vardy 5'10"

Simpson, 5'10"

Fuchs, 6'1"

Schmeichel, 6'1"

Ulloa, 6'1"

Morgan, 6'1"

Huth, 6'3"

Maybe we should sign an ageing dutchman and play him as a second striker?

Anybody think of a fella who's say 6ft tall with more Prem goals than you can shake a stick at and jumps like a petrified stoat?

Heights overrated.

Bring in the hobbits.

lol! Definitely don't think we should bring RVP in!!

I don't think they make football boots big enough for Hobbits, i would prefer a couple of Elves at least!

Okazaki ain't even close to 5'9"!

According to his squad profile he is.

IMO he often looks shorter because he keeps his knees bent with a wide stance. Which confuses me, because he'd have a lower centre of gravity and shouldn't fall over as much as he does!!

Kante is decent in the air for his height, he seems to win headers he has no right to.

Yeah, this is fair enough. He really does well given his height.

Interestingly, Arsenal were the shortest team in August 2015 according to the Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/11822990/Gary-Neville-is-right-Arsenal-are-head-and-shoulders-below-Premier-League-rivals.html)

So, perhaps height really doesn't matter!

I liked what we did against Stoke at home whenever they had a corner we just left 3 players on the halfway line which then made them leave 4 back.

Someone mentioned it another thread but imagine the opposition having a corner and we just leave Vardy, Musa and Mahrez on the halfway line. They might as well kick it straight out of play then get back into position.

May I direct you to the first two games of last season? Vardy, Mahrez and Okazaki all scored headers.

Height can be an advantage but it shouldn't be the basis for signing or using a player in my eyes.

Vardy and Mahrez are not short though, and neither is Okazaki according to the City site.

But in addition to Kante, we've now added Mendy and Musa is imminent. And they are quite short!

David Speedie was no giant but won everything in the air.

Paul Cooper was a midget keeper but had more first class peno saves than anyone.

A lot to be said for technique over size.

Height is largely irrelevant in our style of play, and the style of play oppositions use, and have used against us.

Not many keepers are smashing it up field in the Prem, most play it from the back, and work their up. Only key areas in height are the CBs and marginally the FBs which we have pretty well covered, so I don't think height is a weakness for us at all. The short nature of our team, and including the new players has only added our advantage of speed play, quick intelligent passes and breaking teams down the way we know how.

If anything I think it' the way our game has been moving to give us an advantage over the opposition.

lol lol love it.

With Kante hovering at the edge of the D ready to go.

It only becomes an issue when you end up trying to hide your sides height deficiencies whilst defending set plays, leaving players in unnatural positions for the formation you're trying to play.

But given are likely starting 11 and the rotations that would be employed, I reckon we've got enough players that are good in the air (height isn't the only factor in this) in the right areas - you essentially need 2/3 to combat the initial ball in and any second phase and we have that.

Which could happen 10 times a game if the opposition looks to exploit corners. We gave up an average of 6.1 or 6.2 corners a game last season. Throw in one or two free kicks from around the box at it becomes too likely of an issue to ignore when teams can bring up their giant CBs.

I think when people think of height, the conversation ends up as attacking in open play ignoring defending and set pieces on both side of the ball.

If we need extra height, we get mahrez n Albrighton, to throw Kante in the air at corners,

or have Vardy n Drinkwater hold up Shinji like they do at rugby line outs......sorted
