Height height height

We didn't score any set pieces for ages so I don't think height had anything to do with it lol

But Morgan and Huth are the tallest in the best positions for clearing crosses so I think it'll be fine

I am not sure whether I should be concerned about this or not. We do have a lot of pace, but we don't have much height (see below). I wonder how we compare to other clubs. From what I've seen, we do look quite short and with Musa and Mendy, our average height has just gone down a bit more. I guess we won't be scoring many goals from set-pieces, but I am wondering how we will be able to compete in the air in the middle of the pitch.

Mendy, 5'6"

Kante, 5'7"

Musa, 5'7"

Okazaki, 5'9"

Albrighton, 5'9"

Mahrez, 5'10"

Drinkwater, 5'10"

Vardy 5'10"

Simpson, 5'10"

Fuchs, 6'1"

Schmeichel, 6'1"

Ulloa, 6'1"

Morgan, 6'1"

Huth, 6'3"

We scored from a fair few in the season just gone. Not sure why that's about to change.

It's a question on a discussion forum. Perhaps you can add value by suggesting why you think adding two guys who are so short won't change our ability to dominate the middle of the field in the air.

It isn't necessary height that counts, it's all about "spring." I was the shortest boy in my class at secondary school, but was proved to be the highest jumper.

That's probably true for high school sports and there are examples from professional sports (Scotty pippin if I recall correctly) however obviously having someone who is 6'2" and athletic go against a 5'7" athlete it is likely the taller guy will dominate in the air.

While all of you have tried to say height doesn't matter, it really has affirmed my concern that it actually does.

So we need to sign Zeberdee?

I was referring to the set piece comment. We seemed to score more goals from set pieces this season than we did in previous seasons. I think it comes down to the quality of the delivery. The players that benefited from that were Morgan, Huth and Ulloa. So I'm not sure the additions of Musa and Mendy really have in that aspect unless they're on the pitch in place of our regular free-kick/corner takers. In terms of aerial duels in the middle of the park, we signed Amartey in January so that gives us the option of having more of a physical presence in midfield. I personally think that Drinkwater and Kante punch above their weight in the air too!

You're having a mare merging, if this genunely is such a dramatic and major issue to you I would suggest counselling may help :)

I've 'had a mare' for saying a taller person might be better than a shorter person at heading a ball?!! What company do you work for? Because I'm going to short those shares.

If we need extra height, we get mahrez n Albrighton, to throw Kante in the air at corners,

or have Vardy n Drinkwater hold up Shinji like they do at rugby line outs......sorted

Actually I'm surprised I haven't seen such a set piece move. Players often use an opponent's shoulder to get extra height, but get penalised. Surely it wouldn't be an infringement if it was one of your own players?

It's more a mare for overstating the importance of this issue. Some of the best football teams in recent generations (e.g. Spain/Barca) have all been really small and have had large success. We have various players that are good enough to cover us at set pieces, and as a result we have quicker and sharper players for open play. The opposition may score the odd set piece goal but really it's a non issue.

Really? .....I was pulling your leg, hence smiley face, you seriously need to lighten up fella.

I don't see how signing or having predominantly smaller (or less tall) players is a disadvantage. How many goals did we concede as a consequence of corners or free-kicks last season?

The game on the whole is moving further into a direction where speed/acceleration and skill decide - much like in the FIFA series. :D

There is a limit to how far we should go with our land of the munchkins approach, but I have so much faith in our club...  :D

Kasper is brilliant on crosses anyway, so everything is under control!

Lloris 6'2

Alderwiereld 6'1

Vertonghen 6'3

Dembele 6'1

Dier 6'2

Kane 6'2

Ha ha quite right - mind you if the defenders are all tackling each other ( as when Huth headed in at WHL) it doesn't matter how tall they are !

The OP makes a decent point but we didn't seem to suffer too much last season. It seemed to be a bigger issue under pearson. We often look like the U17's playing the first team when the teams line up. However, our style last season made the physicality issue less relevant. If we want to get into a scrap with bigger sides then it might be a problem. Claudio should have this covered.

I prefer to have a back 4 that are 6ft 1 or above with the centre backs being 6ft 3/4.

Smaller players being better in the air are exceptions rather than rules. If you have a large defence, defending set pieces and attacking them is a bit easier.

One of our main strengths this season gone was the fact that our central defenders were so physically dominating. If we had James Chester and Hernandez, probably wouldnt have been the same outcome.

Its not the be all and end all, but it does help.

We were too small today. Ranieri even says it in his post match interview.

Hernandez looks too small and not strong enough. Amartey doesn't use his physicality. Musa is very short.

We need at least three big strong tall players, in CB, CM and CF, either as a plan b or to play against physical teams.

I'd take a 5'1 Kante over any 6foot giant in midfield

Me too, however that's not possible, so next best thing for me is someone who can physically boss things

I love it when someone remembers a thread they started and bumps it up to show they were right. lol

I wouldn't have revived it if people hadn't been so adamant that I was wrong. Like BTS...
