Gerard Posted 7 July 2016 Posted 7 July 2016 Gray looks like he is going to be a fantastic player from the little we have seen. I'm not sure why everyone is raving about Amartey though, from the little I've seen he looks overawed at this level so far. I'm hoping great things from him as he looks a great athlete but I've yet to see a player there.
Osavo Posted 7 July 2016 Posted 7 July 2016 Demarai Gray will, in my opinion, be a huge player for us going forward. He's fast, got a great touch and intelligent on the ball, and he's only 20. Would like to see him take Albrighton's place going into next year. Albrighton is by no means a bad player, Gray just offers a little more threat and obviously has a far bigger potential.
Carl the Llama Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Presumed it was A-Mar-Tee myself. Gray's pronounced 'gree'.

To me he looked a bit clumsy in his early appearances, though he seemed to improve later on in the season IIRC.Still very early days for him though, and very few mins to judge him on. Hopefully he'll grow into it this season.
foxes21 Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 I think Amartey is a confidence player. look at his debut vs norwich, very cautious & nervy. Then look at his substitute appearance vs sunderland, there was such a difference in confidence, he was assisting in attack/defence & sprinting all over the place. He has all the qualities to be a fantastic box to box player for us, the CDM role might hold back his potential... Just my opinion.

He looks like a great athlete which is important for a midfielder but because he has also played CB it means he's good in the air and a defensive brain so can slot into a back three as well if the full backs push on.

Hopefully he'll grow into it this season. In his first and only start he was played out of position at right back. I'm not sure what people would expect in that game. He then had 5+ minutes at Watford, 1+ minute at palace, 6+ minutes at Sunderland and 12+ minutes against West Ham. His game time wasn't much, so it's hard to judge. But when he was back in midfield and we used him to try and see out the games I was impressed with his composure.I thought the first three sub appearances he did very well, seemed calm on on the ball and used it really well. Helped keep possession in the corners to run the clock down without much fuss. As someone else mentioned, he got forward really well against Sunderland. For someone new, in a new country and quite young. I thought he did well in high pressure circumstances.
baldeagle Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Gray's a star in the making . I think Amartey will benefit from a full pre-season . Correct me if I'm wrong but when he joined it had been winter break and he hadn't played for about a month. I then think he struggled to get up to our expected fitness levels which everyone knows is ridiculously high .
Master Fox Posted 8 July 2016 Posted 8 July 2016 Still wish Amartey scored that chance at Sunderland. I like him a lot. Gray too.
NewEnglandFox Posted 10 July 2016 Posted 10 July 2016 I wonder if we'll send Gray on loan until Christmas. I expect he'll have to hit the ground running when Mahrez goes to AFCON and that'll be easier if he's starting games, not coming off the bench.

Dan Posted 12 July 2016 Posted 12 July 2016 Anyone got any odds of Gray being in the World Cup squad?

TJB-fox Posted 12 July 2016 Posted 12 July 2016 Amartey could be an absolute monster for us just not sure he'll be given the time and matches. I hope he is. Very similar player to Wanyama but has the raw speed that he doesn't have, so hopefully he could surpass him.

Sits in front of the back four and makes it a back three when need be as the full backs bomb on. He's got the attributes to be excellent in that role.
eblair Posted 17 July 2016 Posted 17 July 2016 i genuinely keep forgetting we have amartey, surely he is gonna play a massive role in helping to replace kante, and i quite fancy him to do well

possiblygeorge Posted 18 July 2016 Posted 18 July 2016 I'll second everything everyone has said about Gray. It was love at first sight for me, quick player, very quick and knows what to do with the ball between his feet. Will most certainly have a cracking season and probably get poached by a **** of a Club with a lot of coin. Anywho, i'll have to get the lads name/number on my new shirt!
Bamba's Babes Posted 19 July 2016 Posted 19 July 2016 I'm very excited by Gray and Amartey. I, like the rest of us, am hoping he can go someway to filling the sinkhole left by Kante. If Mahrez stays one more year, Gray can learn even more.

And like you said Gray being around someone of Mahrez's calibre will continue to be beneficial for his development at PL level.
TheLittleBigMan Posted 19 July 2016 Posted 19 July 2016 These pair plus mendy makes me feel a ok about the likes of kante and the possible loss of marhez. The future really does look a lot brighter. Hope our chilwell gets a good go at it too. Up the foxes
