Dames Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 The rate at which the 'big' clubs are improving and spending probably means realistically a title challenge is slightly unrealistic. However with Arsenal seemingly stagnating again and Tottenham having the mental strength of a soggy rich tea biscuit there is no reason we cannot challenge for Top 4 again. Out of the top 8 or so only West Ham have improved and Southampton have regressed again so that should be a minimum. Would also like a good few cup runs this year as the team is more than capable.
Guest Col city fan Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Speak for yourself oldie, it's tinpot now! Joking aside and before the backlash I would like to clarify why I feel it's nowhere near as special as it used to be! Back in the day there was genuine excitement to the build up for the 3rd round proper draw.Huddling round the radio with mates for subsequent draws if progressing was common place. The FA cup , giant killing, dreams of Wembley were all palpable and truly magical. FA Cup final day was an all day spectacle and you were glued to your telly watching all the crass build up, dreaming. I say the FA cup is now massively devalued in comparison, with weakened teams etc probably the last 15/20 years I would say name the finals of note and that is difficult to me in comparison to when I feel it was special 'back in the day'. Don't get me wrong of course I would love us to win the FA Cup I would just love it to be taken seriously and back to being magic again! Bet you won't be bloody saying that when we get to Wembley! And I thought you were 'blue tinted' Whilst I agree with the overall sentiment that a top half finish and getting out of the CL group would represent a good season, I can't help but feel that it is slightly negative thinking. Last season we won the league by 10 clear points. This wasn't a league title that we burgled on the final day. Even if Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea and Man United all improve by 10 points and we do 10 points worse we'd still probably finish 4th or 5th. Even if we do 20 points worse than last season that would probably be enough for about 6th or 7th. We didn't get to where we got last season purely by chance. Teams were "wise" to us apparently from about the end of February (Norwich coming to the KP with a deep back 5) but we still found a way to take more points in that time frame than anybody else in the league. The CL will be a massive distraction and Ranieri is going to face a big challenge in keeping a larger squad happy if he tries to repeat last year's trick of having a consistent starting XI. Assuming he doesn't do that we will lose some cohesion from chopping and changing the starting XI which will count against us, but the experience of last season and the fact that I'm still not 100% sure anybody takes us seriously (our own fans (and myself) included judging by this thread) is going to count in our favour. Also, there's every chance that we'll be out of all the cups by the start of February anyway (I hope not) which would minimise the "disruption" to our league season (Fez wrote a good bit in his book about what a sad attitude that is but it seems to prevail now). So, I'm hoping for top 10 in the league and a decent European run. Another trip to Wembley in a cup would make it even better. But there's no reason we can't qualify for the CL again. Great post that.
Corky Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 I believe we can be in the top six again, if we finish 8th I don't see that as a failure either, being in Europe may take some adjusting to. Would love to get through the group in the Champions League and want us to have a real go at ending our FA Cup drought. If we won that we'd have won both domestic cups and the top three divisions within the last 20 years and that would be a remarkable achievement.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Europe after Christmas and a top 8 finish would have me happy, top 6 would be an incredible effort.
ealingfox Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Think a few of you need to get your dictionaries out and look up 'established'. In fact I'll do it for you. established ɪˈstablɪʃt/Submit adjective 1. having existed or done something for a long time and therefore recognized and generally accepted.
jonthefox Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 I'd be over the moon with a mid table finish and the fa cup . I'm an oldie too btw.
Kitchandro Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Last season I had no expectations. It was very hard to tell how we'd do. We'd struggled for most of the previous campaign yet had the best form in the league for the last quarter of the season. We changed manager, lost Cambiasso and our signings weren't all that exciting. But of course, never did I think it was possible we could get into Europe let alone win the league. On the back of that, maybe having expectations is a bit pointless. Some of our most depressing summers have resulted in our greatest seasons. 3 league titles in fact after summers of worry and/or devastation. What I would say is this: We are not a 'top 4 club'. We're not one of the 4 biggest clubs in the country. Historically we've finished in the top 4 three times. Last season we broke new ground. It remains to be seen whether we can keep this up. But - the fact remains we won the league by 10 points last season. So far, we've strengthened he squad. A lot depends on whether we can keep Mahrez and Kante but should we do that, why exactly can't we be fancied for another challenge? People are still getting hung up on the fact we're Leicester and forgetting that it is no fluke we won the league. We've got a fine team and a tactically astute manager. From a neutral standpoint, we're a threat. In my opinion it's irrelevant that the bigger clubs will be spending more money. They've always done that and we still shat on them last season. More crucial will be the new managers - Conte, Guardiola, Mourinho and maybe even the likes Koemann may yet transform their sides into European/title challengers. But they've still got to stop us. There's no reason why we should be a lot worse than last season. I'm trying not to have expectations but the truth is we should be positive at the moment. Does that mean I'll be livid with Claudio if we finish midtable? Probably not, that's a very good finish for Leicester City. But frankly, whatever the size of the club, this particular team should still be in the shake up at the top end of the table. I'm going to try and enjoy this season. We shouldn't be in danger of going down, there's no pressure on us to win the league because we already took our 'once in a lifetime' chance, we're in Europe and hopefully we'll see some more beautiful football from our side. As long as they entertain us and give their all, we can't really ask for any more. Even at the start of last season, even when we lost 5-2 to Arsenal I was so proud we were playing such exciting, attacking footy. So let's have some more of that please.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Bet you won't be bloody saying that when we get to Wembley! And I thought you were 'blue tinted' Great post that. Ha ha ha, looking forward to Wembley for the Charity Shield bud The optimistic persona is my true preference, as you and many thousands know you can't support our beloved team for 40 + years without a large dose of realism I genuinely feel we can be in the mix if we hold on to everyone and continue with improved signings.

True Blue Fox Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Some great posts there and I'm in total agreement with a lot of what everyone has said. I think we would be happy with a top half finish with being well safe of relagation early on. But I think providing we keep all our title winning team together which finger crossed we will do and other than the CL which we are now involved in all teams are equal with the season and cup competitions so relistically I think a top 4 finish and a good run in the CL is possible. Other teams are improving their existing squad just the same as we are except our existing squad won the league by 10 points and adding players like Musa, Mendy and a few other players only make me feel confident we can challenge on the PL and CL.
TrentFox Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 We kicked sand in the faces of the establishment last year. Those clubs will come out fighting. They have to. City have Pep. They'll give him a fortune to build a dynasty. Utd will have to respond to keep face locally. Chelsea made an astute managerial appointment and I expect them to be in 'pay-back' mode after the slating they all took last year. The rest are the rest. Last season was simply remarkable. But I honestly feel a top 6 this season would be a fabulous achievement, too.
Finnaldo Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Capable of top four again I feel, although wouldn't be disappointed with top 8 and the FA Cup along with a good European run.
treer Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Is it true that people who mention the word relegation and Leicester in the same post, are allowed to vote?
HEGGSY Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Top 6 FA cup win Decent showing in the Champions League I'd be over the moon
leicesterseddon Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Think there will be a big expectation gap between some fans tbh. As others have said, it's ridiculous to consider ourselves an 'established' side after a single season. Previous history would show that it's relatively difficult for a club like us to sustain success over a prolonged period of time. In truth there are only really a handful of clubs in the country who have ever done it... However the obvious point of interest now is whether the increasing money from TV rights might allow a club like ours to break the mould. Even a couple of years ago I'd be surprised if we'd have been able to keep JV from Arsenal. Is the fact that we have (and just think about it rationally for a sec and it's still pretty remarkable) a sign that things might change?
Bluetintedspecs Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 You going? Good man... Sure am bud, looking forward to it
tsintskaro Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 I hate this "we are not great club, last season was just a single one, don't make high expectations" and etc Club got champion with 10 points ahead without serious breakdown whole 38 games now with new signings and champions badge on their shoulder i dont see why there should not be high but reasonable expectations some of you are steel in championship
whetstonefox Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 It'll be interesting to see how we wear the mantle of being champions. Blackburn handled it badly, but dare I say it Forest for another couple of seasons were still up there and although not winning the league did have the European Cup successes. The mentality of the squad would suggest we'll will be up for it, guess we'll know after a few games next season
Gerard Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 I want Champions League qualification, ambitious I know but at the moment we are perceived as one season wonders, if we qualify for the Champions League again then potential players will sit up and notice as will sponsors, TV companies etc and begin to look at us as a big club. I don't care how we do it either, top four or win the CL or Europa, it's all good. if we finish 8th we'll just be seen as a mid table club who were a flash in the pan, it's an incredibly important season for us to attempt to push on.

ARM1968 Posted 9 July 2016 Posted 9 July 2016 Stay up - same as always. Get that done and move on. Oh yeah, and win the Champions League.
