Hi guys, Sporting fan here.

Just signed in to clarify some things I've been reading both here and on the Slimani thread.

First of all, our name is Sporting Clube de Portugal, so, instead of calling us Sporting Lisbon (that is an insult to us, very used by our rivals) you should call us Sporting Portugal.

Secondly, we're not bankrupt. Very short explanation: 2013 we we're on the edge of the end, due to continuous ruinous managment of our directors and presidents. Our current president came in and had to renegociate our debt with the banks. So, a percentage of the money we receive from the players tranfers goes directly to the banks.

Fortunately, the president did a great financial managment and right now the debt is the smaller compared to our rivals'.

Also, with the money of the Champions League and João Mario's transfer, we're more than good with the available funds.

With these points out of the way, I'm going to leave my opinion about the current rumours.

I guess Slimani is going to join you, which is a huge loss to us. Adrien is going to be more difficult, and I'm not seeing our president let go of any of them easy. He's known for being very thuf and decided with the club's interests.

Also, if both happen to leave our club, don't be surprised if Adrien goes for a bigger fee, since we have 100% of Adrien and only 80% of Slimani's pass.

Anyways, altough I like your club very much (who doesn't after last season :P ) I really hope both stay here.

Saudações Leoninas!

Welcome to the forums, if we do indeed steal Adrian and sliman, will us ****ing Porto 4-0 at their place make it up to you?

Assuming we get him and Slimani

how is Silva going to replace either of Amartey or Drinkwater any time soon?

how is Slimani going to replace Shinji?

the three players they are up against were 1.2 & 3 in out best performers Saturday

i can't see them waltzing into the side easily?

we'd have an extremely expensive bench - cracking on for £90m

Silva may not replace either soon but I don't see why him and Drinkwater can't play together eventually as two box to box, hardworking central midfielders. Or they could all 3 play together in 4-3-3. People also forget that Amartey is leaving in January for AFCON.

Slimani is also hardworking according to most people who have watched him regularly for sporting and likes to drop deep even though he plays often as a supposed 'target man'. He has great feet so I don't see why can't link play similarly if not better than Shinji whilst actually scoring aswell.

Worst case scenario he is a much much better option coming off the bench than Ulloa. Both of these two between them clearly offer much Champions league experience, goals, a great penalty taker, another leader and more quality into our side, I can't see why some fans don't want them.

Because one great season has led many to believe our squad is full of 'world class' talent.

Signing Adrien and Slimani means that either they or drinky/amartey/mendy/okazaki/Vardy will replace King and Ulloa on the bench.

So it's a yes from me.

Look at the fixture list. We're playing two games a week for god knows how many weeks.

If Silva is an box-to-box midfielder who has played as a defensive midfielder, he'd be backup for Amartey.

If Slimani is a work horse and good in the air, he'd be back up for Shinji.

The rest is Drinky/Mendy. Mahrez/Gray. Albrighton/Musa/Schlupp. Vardy/Musa.  And Herandez/Morgan. Huth/Was. Simpson/Amartey. Fuchs/Chilwell.

If these two transfers go through, the only weak link may be right back, because having Amartey cover RB and DM may be too much.

I suppose if you are scoring bucket loads then you don't really need a defence

Hey fella, welcome to our forums!

Apologies for any lack of respect - as others as have said the media in this country also calls you Sporting Lisbon so thats why we use it, but from now on I at least shall call you the correct way - Sporting Portugal!

Just want to say I feel sorry for your fans. Your club has a rich history, and you have won a European competition whereas for us this is new ground and very exciting. We lost one of our best players this summer and we are all still upset about it, so I can only imagine what it's like to lose 2 or 3, especially if one is your club captain.

With the new money coming into the Premier League it gives all of the English clubs an insane advantage and it's a huge opportunity for us which we are making the most of. Personally I don't like seeing us spend like crazy as for me clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea are bad for football - they just brought their success. Even Manchester United have lost a lot of their personality and are just becoming the English version of Real Madrid! For me the most special thing about winning the league was winning it with real team spirit and being the underdog. It made everyone in the world happy and is a great motivational story for the ages. I would say that the "magic" of Leicester is that we won the title without spending huge sums of money on players like Manchester United and Manchester City and we had many cinderella stories such as Vardy, Mahrez, Kante, etc.

I think it's amazing that the Portugese Clubs can so consistently produce great players with Sporting Portugal being one of the best in Europe for that (Ronaldo, Nani, Figo, etc). I would be happy if we could do that, but in the Premier League you need to get results *now* which makes it much harder to do this.

Right now the Premier League clubs can go to clubs like Ajax, Sporting, Anderlecht, Galatasaray and buy their top players easily because of the money involved. I would say that there is one good thing to this, the Premier League distributes money pretty evenely meaning that the lesser clubs can catch-up which is much better than across Europe where just 2-3 clubs get the money! If it wasn't us, it would probably be someone else, which doesn't make it easier but I think compared to others, it's nice for the underdog to offer a new challenge.

Best of luck for the rest of the season. If history has taught us one thing, you are the sort of club to bounce back with an even stronger set of players!

Actually 3-5-2 as a 'Plan B' could be an option.

...................................Kasper

.............Morgan..........Amartey...........Huth

.Albrighton.............Drinky........Silva.............Fuchs

.....................................Mahrez

..............................Vardy..........Slimani

You could have Amartey stepping into midfield when we have the ball....or Simpson playing as a RCB moving Morgan into the center. Hernandez is good on the ball for a center half, so he could play when we need Amartey in the center of the pitch.

Mendy could replace Mahrez and push Adrien behind a front two in games we cannot carry a luxury player. We could add schlupp on the left, Musa down the middle, Gray in the free role....

An interchanging front three of Mahrez, Vardy and Musa, or a dominant physical front three of Okazaki, Slimani and Ulloa.

Options, options, options.

When defending:

                       Kasper

Albrighton - Amartey - Morgan - Fuchs

      Mahrez - Silva - Drinky - Musa

                  Slimani - Vardy

Silva will not be back up Amartey. He is an established champs league player and euro 2016 winner.

Amartey was fantastic on Saturday but I think Silva is a guaranteed starter. He may become more influential than drinkwater

Alright guys, another new Sporting member here.

Just to say you'll probably get Slimani, everyone here is saying the deal is done.
But really doubt you'll get Adrien. Since the newest board took over the club, we can clearly see Sporting has a solid project. Since we've sold Joao Mario to Inter and now we're losing Slimani to you, I really doubt Adrien will be allowed to leave as well. 95% sure he's staying here, even against the player's will.

Adrien is a very decent player. His strongest skills, in my opinion, is his passing ability, game vision, consistency and the way he pressures. He's not that good with interceptions but he puts a lot of pressure on the man who has the ball. Very tactical and intelligent as well, commits faults when its needed. He's one of the best penalty takers Ive seen recently in Sporting, actually he's very good in that chapter.

Most of all, I see him as a very consistent and intelligent player, who we would feel a big difference without.

He's our main box-to-box, captain of the team, and he's usually seen as someone who controls our midfield and sets the pace of our game.

He's not awesome tho. He's one of those players who you cant see any big flaws but he doesnt completely shine as well.

I think Ranieri will work people into the team...learning the system, etc. Once the squad gets into the multiple-games a week phase, he will use that as an opportunity to develop the starting 11 he wants (probably by the end of October or beginning of November).
