We're getting really desperate for excuses if we're blaming Nike & Nivea for the fact we are not very good at football lol

Well I think it has something to do with it when the players that are good and can make a difference are left out

For fuchs sake, you set your standards low and that's what you get. Commenting that he'd take a draw before the game. Really Big Sam? Is that what you'd call a good result.

Slovakia are a second rate nation, they are team we should be beating.

Excuse me...but England are a 2nd rate nation.  Nothing more...!!!

LALLANA,...Back 4, Ali, Walcott. That was it.

walcott at least looks like he can beat his man.

Sterling , is at the moment not worth his England

Shirt..

Happy neither DD nor Vardy played, they would of took the blame

The Big Fat **** is basically saying Rooney does what he wants, he plays where he wants and who is he to tell him no.

You're the manager for ****s sake! That sums up everything that is wrong with England. Player power at its finest.

It's insane. Never seen anything like it. For someone who is so blatantly shot at the level we and Man Utd should be aspiring to, how does he keep playing every game as if he's some crucial player?

Had the Rooney debate many a time but even his most ardent defenders can admit he's lost it now.

The fact the manager has all but admitted that Rooney is untouchable says absolutely everything. It just confirms what a lot of us have said all along.

Lost faith in Allardyce already. I'd come around to the idea of him for England but that's gone already. Was hoping for a bit of a shake-up but the similarities are pretty eerie. We'll walk this group as the other sides are all utterly terrible (if Slovakia are the next best side in this group then ****ing hell lol) and we'll just make up the numbers in Russia like we usually do.

England have got to be the most unsupportable team and organisation on the planet. There's so little to like.

I'm still fvckin steaming about the match tonight. I've not looked through this thread, so don't know if this question has already been raised, but has any England team played its first match in a campaign without any of the previous champion's players taking part?

I've been watching football for longer than is healthy, and I really can't think of a time when that happened.

Of course, when Chelski, Man U, Man City, Arsenal etc won the Premier League, they had players who turned out regularly for England. Closest was probably Blackburn in 1995-95, after they won the PL in the previous year: but they had Graeme Le Saux in the England squad the following season.

I can't recall any time it's happened before tonight: when you have a red-hot goalscorer in Vardy and one of the best midfielders in the country in Drinkwater, why the fvck don't they get a game?

I give up.

If we're going to play like that then it'll only result in humiliation at the World Cup.

I;'d rather we were beaten tonight, took a hard look at ourselves and work out why we're so utterly shit.

I heard people talk about "Big Sam will make England hard to beat". Like that's the problem... We very rarely get beat, but it's even more rare that we score.

If it takes losing or drawing that game for us to not seriously sit up and think that need to improve on that, then that is the problem. We have just come off the back of our worst ever result - one that you can't say that it wasn't coming either. The performances need massive improvement and I'm just so disappointed in how little things looked to have changed. I could take us playing badly tonight, but only if he'd tried to change a couple of things, as you could at least then say he's trying to work on something else and you can't expect it to all click immediately, but what I saw tonight couldn't have been more Hodgson-like if he'd tried and that's the most damning thing.

I'm still convinced his hands are tied and that there's a lot of pressure on him to play a certain way or with certain players. He looked pretty stressed during that game to me.

Only just finished watching the match after badly timed hospital appointment.

Didn't see anything different from the Iceland game, we were just luckier this game. If they had kept eleven players on the pitch it would have been a draw and who's to say they couldn't have nicked a win.

Kane was woeful, Henderson and Died anonymous and just exactly what is the point of Wayne Rooney?

The worst thing is, we won, so the England set-up will think everything is fine when it clearly is.

Allardyce out!

It is incredible that Kane seems an automatic choice after being abysmal in the Euros and doing nothing for spurs in the first 3 games.  We must be really struggling for strikers in this country.

England need to embrace change, and not rely on failed methods/pick the overrated favourites over those that deserve being selected, to consider trying to be a successful force.

That’s the problem in a nutshell.

Yup, it seems the whole of the prawn-sandwich brigade have taken over the whole team organisation, and tactics.

Like you I thought ok lets give the big man time... (I still do), but I cant get it out of my head,he selected players

Like Henderson, Sturridge and Sterling has 1st choice.

Rooney is like marmite across the english fan base, they either hate him, or Still  like him in the England set up.

I like Kane for the English forward line, and I wont get involved in any over bias(Vardy) opinions, but he does seem

to need a month into the campaign, before he gets going.

I like Lallana, he at least trys different things, or 'thinks out of the box', but he has to find out how he conquers that

2-3 second panic button when in front of goal.Stay instinctive in his play, but show that nanosecond discipline

When in the Pbox.

The shame is, your last sentence is slowly becoming reality, its the negative  repeatative nature of our approach to how we sh o uld

be presentkng ourselves has a football nation...

Winning all of these games under Hodgson kept him in the job after the 2014 World Cup.

Scraping past the likes of Slovakia, Russia, Wales etc for wins papers over the cracks. The nation's football system needs undressing and sorting out.

The trouble is that the FA are too scared of a media and corporate backlash.

It's steady to keep just qualifying for World Cups and European Championships but when is someone going begin this sort out?

We've got a Country that breeds lethargic and steady footballers. We'll never produce a player like a Bale, a Ronaldo or a Messi. Anyone that does possess a bit of skill (our two most notable examples are Rooney and Sterling) they're given the World when they're 18 and it goes to their heads and they develop a "typical footballer" mentality where it's all about the money. Other nations have players that are willing to run themselves into the ground to win in every game. I've not seen anything like that from an English international (barring Vardy, should he ever get a chance).

Has anybody considered that Big Sam might just have wanted to see Roy's team play at first hand in a competitive match, up close and personal, before making his own conclusions? I don't blame him for playing a similar team and then making his own mind up. If he'd have made wholesale changes he'd probably still get critisised. He can't win as England Manager even though we had 20 attempts to their 1 even away from home. We've got Sam in charge for this campaign and the next World Cup whether we like it or not, so I for one will be backing him. The reason most posters on here are pissy is because he didn't play DD or Vardy today but I'm sure they'll get their chance at some stage.

Did you not see all those teams that dominated us last season and lost?

But we won and never looked like losing. And had another clear goal disallowed. Did people really think we'd just turn up with a brand new 11 and win 5-0 away from home against the groups second favoutites and playing the beautiful game? Can't believe some are on Sam's back already after ONE GAME. I remember O'Neill getting pelters at City after a dozen games and he turned out O.K.

For what it's worth Sterling should definitely have played. He's started very well. Haven't got a clue how Walcott's near the side though.

I don't understand the hold Rooney seems to have on an England shirt and haven't done for a long while.  Nor why successive managers seem to make such a mess of the job. Not that I bothered watching. I'd rather count blades of grass than upset myself - it's less frustrating.

Erm... we were awful. Wasteful with the ball, no creativity, crosses to no one.

Don't know what you mean about 'clear goal'. At first glance maybe, but the ref got it right quite 'clearly' from the replays. And even our winning goal, most times that would have been saved and their goalie almost did.

For all our possession and dominance, we didn't create one good chance. In fact the best chance of the game was the ball they flashed across our goal mouth that was a toe-poke away from us going behind.

P.S. I don't actually think Sam should go... I was exaggerating for comic effect.

That doesn't change that we were poor.

If you're happy that the English National side is going in the right direction after that performance then good for you.

I really have warmed to Allardyce as a manager and have thought that actually, he gets a fair bit of stick that's probably not justified. I'd really come around to the idea of him taking the England job.

I don't entirely blame Allardyce though. The way I see it is that it's the job he's always wanted, and he'll take it under any circumstances - even if those circumstances are "play X from Liverpool" and "play Y from Tottenham". He's at a point in his career where it's probably his last ever shot at the England job. I'm completely convinced there's something in the sponsors talk, as paranoid as I sound (and I admit I am) I just cannot fathom how so many managers can make the same style of mistakes time and time again. It isn't like Capello did one thing, McClaren did another, Hodgson did another, Allardyce is doing another, they're all picking teams along similar lines, they're all playing pretty dull football and they're all making the same type of mistakes - yet there seems to be no collective desire to improve. Why is that the case? Is anyone genuinely happy with what they saw tonight? Bloody hell I think Webbo is the most pro-England person I've come across and even he said it was shite.

People say he's using tonight to have a look at Hodgson's side - yet what's the excuse when we stick a nearly identical XI out against Malta?

I'd love him to prove me wrong. Like I say I've warmed to him and I genuinely believe the job means a lot to him, but I can just see him going the exact same way as the others and it might not even necessarily be his fault.

I went to every England home game and the occasional away game from 1990-2014, but got fed up with the uncaring attitude and cavalier attitude towards the fans. I cancelled my away fans membership, the shame of watching too many prima donnas non performing / non caring was too great.

Until we play an attacking exciting team we will always be doomed. Wasters like Walcott and sterling should be dumped. Henderson / sturridge are absolute rubbish at international level, Dier, could have a future, but needs to get a brain. It's over 50 years since my first international game at Wembley. The quality has improved, but the pride in playing for your country hasn't.

An awful game tonight in terms of skill / entertainment, but some people will say it's the result that count; whilst that is true playing boring football beats the minnows, but always falls short at the major finals.

To be fair you never saw anything wrong with England's performances in the Euro's.

It's commendable of you that you blindly stick by the players & the team. But I genuinely think you must be watching a completely different game to 99% of everyone else.
