foxes21 Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 I'm really hoping this Liverpool result is like Arsenal at home last season. A good battering for our lads resulted in a big change in our mentality, with Claudio bringing in Simpson & Fuchs. A similar change is required, but for me it's the formation. 4-4-2 is just impossible without Kante. Without Kante, we have no-one to cover our luxury player, Mahrez. And we are limiting Mahrez ability going forward, by making him have to track back. However, we have the players to excel in a 4-3-3 (EDIT: AND 3-4-1-2) Kasper Simpson Morgan Huth Fuchs Drinkwater Mendy Amartey Mahrez Vardy Musa Overall, 4-4-2 left us exposed today. We need to shore things up, whilst giving Mahrez more freedom to attack. - EDIT: Also, 3-4-1-2 makes so much sense, with the personnel we have and it solves the Mahrez issue too. Kasper Hernandez Morgan Huth Albrighton Drinkwater Mendy Fuchs Mahrez Slimani Vardy -
matty98 Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 Personally would rather we went back to 3 at the back, whenever we've played 433 in the past we've looked clueless
NewEnglandFox Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 We're a direct team. 433 is passing formation. I don't think it's quite that simple. We simply aren't that good at stringing passes together.

brucey Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 A change of formation to an untried one 3 days before first CL game then?

I saw another post in the other thread for 3 at the back and I'm all for it. Agreed, on past performances we looked much better playing 3-4-1-2 than 4-3-3 in the past. 12 minutes ago, FireFox said: Zieler Hernandez - Morgan - Huth Albrighton - Drinky - Amartey - Fuchs/Schlupp Mahrez Slimani - Vardy This team makes so much sense.. Bit harsh on Kasper though, I'd keep him in the team.

Defence looked all over the shop. Woeful. They battered us. Id like to see a 352 because 433 obviously only really means one striker unless you stick Vardy on the wing but that doesn't really work for me. I think 352 and Alrbrighton and Fuchs or Schlupp as wing backs. Mahrez in behind in the hole

The_frozenoak Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 I expected the slow start to the season, after all the end of season travels, summer tournaments and that pre season BUT no way expected to be this stale and toothless by today It's clear we need the shift in formation now, especially if we're to see Mahrez back to some form. 3.4.1.2 or 3.5.1.1 for me.
Fox92 Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 All this 'we needed a good battering' is a load of shite. We were appalling at Hull. We're supposed to be Champions ffs. It's embarrassing.
Blue and white Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 Correct me if I'm wrong but during the great escape as well as the change in formation, wasn't Mahrez moved to that position behind the front two, and only then did he start to have a real effect on games? We don't want to go months trying to get 442 to work and end up playing catch up again.
dylanlegend Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 I must admit I like the 3-4-1-2 idea but just don't rate Hernandez he seems out of his depth id go with Wazza: GK: Kasper CB: Wazza CB: Huth CB: Morgan RWB: Albrighton LWB: Schlupp CM: Amartey CM: Drinkwater AMC: Mahrez CF: Vardy CF: Slimani
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 Can't play 4-3-3, we need two strikers playing centrally to make chances. 3-5-2 or 4-2-2, that's it.
Spicer Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 Formation is important but what is more important is the performance of the players. We would of lost with any formation today as all of our players played awfully.

yorkie1999 Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 I ain't bothered what anyone thinks, but schlupp needs kantesizing.
st albans fox Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 With Simpson injured, it might be time to try 3-5-2 which at least finds a way of getting slim and vards together without conceding the midfield can't see Claudio going down that route though.

Morgan looked like he took a knock as well. We might see two changes to the back line on Wednesday. With the options of Hernandez or Amartey at RB, I'm all for trying 3 at the back.
Koke Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 4-3-3 is a more possession based formation. We are more direct. Also, we can't play with two strikers in a 4-3-3. 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 look appealing but when we tried Mahrez in the hole last last year he looked clueless. I feel a bit sorry for Mahrez atm. He is asked to track back whereas guys like Hazard, De Bruyne, Firmino etc are given less defensive responsibility in their respective teams.
CKB Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 CR has to tweak something as 4-4-2 is just not working without Kante and especially against bigger teams. The amount of times we get cut open is quite concerning
foxes21 Posted 10 September 2016 Author Posted 10 September 2016 Seen another suggestion for 4-3-1-2. Thoughts? Kasper Albrighton Morgan Huth Fuchs Drinkwater Mendy Amartey Mahrez Vardy Slimani Mendy can link the play up from deep and cover the fullbacks as they'd have to be more attack minded to play this formation. This is actually the exact role he had at Nice.
Gazza M Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 I agree, the end of 4-4-2 away from home for a while against opposition like Liverpool. We need to protect our ageing defence now and use our pace to counter. However 4-3-3 is a shit system as it is usually a case of crossing to one man in the box. Maybe a change to 4-2-3-1. Also when is Kasper going to stop being so rash? He needs to calm down. No need to fly out his area today. Marhez also needs a break. I would bench next match and see if he comes back fighting. I would certainly start against Brugge: Kasper Hernandez Huth Morgan Fuchs Amartey Drinkwater Gray Kapushka Musa Vardy Subs: Zieler, Chilwell, Was, King, Marhez, Slimani, Okazaki.
blueharmie Posted 10 September 2016 Posted 10 September 2016 Was to come in. Kapustka in Slim in Jobs a good un.
