No chance, of we go down I think he'll be really good for us, we'd likely lose everyone, I think personally Slimani, Okazaki and Simpson would be the only ones who'd stay bar Huth and Morgan who'd be forced out.

On what basis?

He's 23, if he was good enough the chances are he wouldn't be loaned out every season

I'm sure it's wrong but this mornings D Mail reports he's available for £1 million :o

Fvcking outrageous if true?

in todays market £5 million I would suggest with a sell on clause etc

Please.

They want Tom Cairney for 20m so I reckon we could squeeze 30m out of them for Tom.

He's too far down the pecking order here. Gray is a better player than Lawrence and Gray can't even get a proper run in the team.

If Gaston Ramirez comes then we are stacked in the attacking/winger positions.

Squeeze as much money out of Newcastle and let him go.

You might be right but if Gray is better than Lawrence it might be best for Lawrence to become something like a tour guide or a plumber.

Right now Gray is an bit-part entertainer.

Yes, I do remember Ronaldo arriving at Manchester United and being much the same - except that  he was clearly brilliant.

Gray is "promising" if I'm kind but the big problem at Leicester is that I'm not convinced we have anyone to turn promise into brilliance before  the Sun runs out of energy.

I don't know what Lawrence is worth - or whether he's good enough - because I don't watch the feeder teams anymore.

But I do think this. Newcastle will get promotion and have a damned good chance of passing us on the way. And in any case we hardly have the pedigree of an organisation that promotes from within and brings our youngsters to fruition.

I think that's a pity and a massive shortcoming. But it's the reality of it.

So, in the kid's best interests we should sell. And all the rest of the youngsters as well. We go through the motions but don't get even close to doing them justice.

As I've said a few times, it's mainly a social service and a good one in some aspects.

But it's not the footballing production line it should be.

We only got 1.75 million for Hernandez. That's despite great la liga stats only six months earlier. We have always been poor at selling. Daniel Levy would get us 12 million.

So you liked Schlupp but you're hating on Gray?

Gray's a greedy bastard and he needs a thick ear but Schlupp doesn't even play the same sport. And you consistently claimed he had worth? lol

They're your superlatives not mine. Where my team is concerning I don't give a toss for anyone or anything except winning and playing with panache.

I didn't like what Schlupp became at our club anymore than anyone else.

I did like some of what I saw before he started sulking because he provided some of the breathtaking pace which was the catalyst for our success and helped formulate the character of our title-winning team.

Gray's an apprentice in my eyes. A promising kid with important abilities but a whole lot of shortcomings.

And if he doesn't improve - and that means having the right attitude of mind whatever -  it'll be a waste of time keeping him if we want to win anything.

he'll realistically never be given the chance to see what he can do here and if we can get a few million for him it would be a good deal, I know he's playing well at the moment but long term you just don't know

Oh shut the **** up, Tony.

Gray is the best young player we've had at the club in an age, you just don't like to admit it because he's not been with us since he was 13 years old and you didn't get to predict his great talents before everyone else.

You love it when you get to pretend to be some sort of authority figure on talent because you actually used to be bored enough to go and watch the age group teams.

Given your list of saluted Leicester prospects (ranging from Dodds to Sheehan to Schlupp) it's pretty evident the world of football scouting isn't really less off for the fact you never quite cut out a career as a top level finder.

And spare us all of the "I never said they'd make it for sure" blah blah rubbish just because you know none of myself, Mablo, Fez or any of your old sparring partners can actually be arsed digging around the archives for the evidence.

You and I both know how highly you've raved about the above and other flops, there's no point lying to us or yourself.

Gray has more talent in his weaker foot than Jeff ever displayed in any of his. He's also probably not a lot slower across 10, 20 or 100m either and he's definitely quicker whilst in control of a ball.

Boy needs to mature and learn to not waste chances as much but he's also still a kid. He's probably not going to be Ronaldo but you've got to be soft in the head to not recognise he's a great asset for us and he's going to have a significant career as a top flight footballer.

Hope that is just poor reporting. If a shed load of Championship sides are after him should drive the price up. 1m would be ridiculous

Go search out your "evidence" and you'll find I was delighted with Gray's arrival...and I've never questioned or doubted his talent. As ever you just make it up as you go along.

He's just not progressed at anything like the rate I'd expect and is a liability at times, as was clearly to be seen at Southampton, particularly in the second half.

Comparing him to Schlupp now is a waste of effort. Schlupp's gone and I'm pleased about that given his attitude this last few months.

But that does nothing to negate the contribution he made when giving of his best, for all his eccentricity.

For me he was a much more difficult opponent to contain over long periods  than Gray's ever been but I don't expect to persuade you of that. If you were a horse I'd always imagine you in blinkers.

Clearly Gray will answer the question himself over time.

It it turns out you're right I'll be pleased to say so, especially in current cirumstances.

But as it is, unless he improves massively, I doubt we'll win anything with the lad of any consequence. Perhaps a championship title if he's used sparingly but even then he'd have to improve markedly. .

Are you implying that you actually saw JS in control of a ball here?

Not going to happen, but I'd have him back in our match day squad. Loan spells have worked.

This is a classic case of short sighted management.

Mick Mcarthy seems to have got him purring, it's a shame we won't!

Toms actually just what we need for a boost, assuming his attitude towards us would be right (think he's currently pissed off with us, and can't wait to leave, but who can blame him!)
