This season still could be realistically as great as last season

... and I'm not on about winning the champions league.

Imagine us finishing at least 17th ( we should do this to be fair) beating Seville over the two legs and making it to the quarters of the CL (it won't be easy but I have a feeling we will) but to polish it all off we win the FA Cup as well!

The FA Cup bit is obviously the hard bit but I'll explain below why I think it's going to happen.

I think all the distraction of being in a relegation battle and the last 16 of the champions league  means many people have forgotton that this is probably the best chance in decades of winning the FA cup.

1. Squad depth -  Even though we seem to have aquired a lot of players who arn't clicking at the moment, there's that wonderful prospect of when they finally do we'll have options coming out of ears. A few injuries? Doesn't matter, we've never been so flush with quality players. ••disclaimer I might edit this bit out at the end of the transfer window if don't sign any defenders (and lots of them)**

2. We're not focusing on it - the reason we won the league was because none of us: as in the players, manager, fans or media believed we ever would. The pressure was completely off for the vast majority of the season and this helped so much.

3. We'll see it as an escape - how many times have we seen dog ugly teams making it to the later stages and even winning it? I think we'll make it to the quarter finals without even realising the achievement just with the ***ed up mentality of the fans at the moment.

4. When the opportunity presents itself we'll take it - When we're knocked out of the champions league and we realise this is the only positive left we'll gobble up the opportunity.  I think having won the league will give us the belief and know how when it comes to getting the job done. All of a sudden the pressure of winning the FA Cup isn't as great as it should be having already won the ultimate prize.

Forget the doom and gloom. Let's make history again.

FA Cup 5th round - 18th Feb

Sevilla away - 22nd Feb

Great optimism, but not sure Claudio can/will put out our strongest team for both games.

Good point, wasn't there a team who got to both cup finals but got relegated the same season

Does he or even us fans actually even know what our strongest team is

Middlesbrough the year we beat them  in the League Cup final.

Relegated with the likes of Emerson, Ravenelli and Juninho.

Depends who we draw to be honest. A lower league side at home yes please

let's be realistic...

1. we'll be out of the EUCL.. by end of Feb

2. We'll won't win the FA cup

3. we'll be battling with teams like Hull & sunderland to stay in the EPL

Where's the fun in being realistic?

That's it young man, that's the spirit!

I would not bet high stakes on these circumstances, but I'm with you in thinking it could happen.

23.00 Tuesday 31st Jan and it could all be down the drain though, let's see.

Have wanted a Wembley appearance in the FA Cup for years!! And not just the semi-final (absolutely hate semis being played at Wembley).

Would be the ultimate bonus to win the FA Cup for the first time the season after winning the league.

I can't see us getting past Sevilla tbh. They're such a good side and it might be a blessing in disguise if we exit the Champions League.

Great optimism but we stand no chance against Sevilla

Of course we do.

It's two games of football, over two legs, one of which is at a packed KP on Champs League night.

No one would have given Swansea a chance last weekend nor Southampton last night.

Don't be such a defeatist.

No point having a packed KP if we're 4 nil down after the first leg. Big Wes and Huth will get took apart in seville.

We'll lose 4-0 at their place and 0-2 at Home!..

.if we play well.

Ok so every club has some extreme supporters but why make a sweeping statement about every one of us?

I don't think I'm "***ed up" for thinking we could manage a better highlight in a 3-0 defeat than a long throw into the penalty area.

Get an easy home tie before Sevilla, get through it, crash out of the CL by a 6 or 7 goal margin.

Scrape a few wins together in the league and give ourselves a 8-9 point cushion over the bottom three.

Focus on the FA Cup, where Andy Kind scores a 89th minute 25 yarder in the final to win it.

I'm shitting the FA cup, I cannot cope with losing to Derby. It seems a much more likely source of more utter embarrassment than anything that is going to make me feel better.

I'd like to be a bit more positive but the Southampton game has absloutley drained me.

Nice thread. The latter part about making history again is what particularly appealed. I do have this sense we might just do something in the FA Cup.

To be truthful, because of the Sevilla game being in the CL again, I can see the team raising their game like we have done already in the competition.
