You are right. But this bargain bin mentality has nothing to do

with Ranieri. It started long before he arrived.

Walsh's main task was to find freebies.

Just a selection of the last few years:

Schwarzer            Maddison

Hamer                  Upson

Wasilewski            Nugent

Fuchs                  Cambiasso

Hernandez           Taylor-Fletcher

Albrighton            Hopper

Hammond            Futacs

Blyth                    Bakayogo

Barmby                Watson

Whitbread           Smith

Phillips                Danns

All these players joined LCFC on a free transfer.

We won the title on a shoestring budget (compared with the

big clubs) and obviously the people, who control the money,

think, that we can avoid relegation also on a shoestring.

What a gamble!!!

I'm afraid this sort of signing reeks of panic and basically for me sums up the shambles the football club is right now. A manager who is happy with turgid, dreadful football. A manager who says it's 'ok' if signings we are desperate for are not completed, despite having 30 days to get them done and with a new highly paid scout in the role.

CR doesn't seem to realize that we need players who will actively improve the first team, rather than backup players to fill in the squad. The fact we are loaning this guy says
it all really. Why can we not attract players? Hull have managed to sign several this month including an Italian international centre half. You'd think Ranieri would have the contacts to get better players in. But then again he says he's the head coach rather than manager so I guess that means Rudkin is in charge!

Ranieri has his blinkers on constantly. Standards are set too low this season and he cannot see that we needed better players in, if he did he would be furious that no transfers other than Ndidi were forthcoming. Sakho, Snodgrass, Fonte, Andy Robertson and Jenkinson were going in this window and I'd have been in for them.

We seem completely reluctant to buy domestically. Yes we may have to pay more money but there are good players available here who we have completely ignored. We seem obsessed with doing things on the cheap - despite being the 20th richest club in the world - and have made about £14 million this window with the Schlupp and Hernandez sales. Meanwhile all the clubs around us are strengthening. At best players like Wague you are just stabbing in the dark as to whether or not they are good enough. He may be but our track record in the transfer window in the last 18 months looks grim. Just failure after failure. We don't seem to have any real strategy, just pursuing one target and if we don't get them we give up like we did with Keane, Ramirez and Silva. We obviously identified we needed another CB in the summer. Didn't want to pay the money, shamefully, and gave up. Did we decide we didn't need a CB after all? Silva and Ramirez the same. Relegation because we didn't want to pay a few million extra will cost a heck of a lot more.

As we're presently constituted, coupled with the way we are playing, we're going down.

It's the repetition of errors too. If we don't drop this year, we surely will next.

Utter, utter shambles.

Regular in the Caen team when another of their players didn't turn out to bad for us..... you never know!!

Also same season we scouted Kante... did this mans name go in the little black book as well?

Here you can watch Kante and Wague play together at Caen.

Kante is Nr.17 and Wague Nr.4

Wague even scores a goal at the end.

What is to do with Ranieri is that he's not making it work, where as it has done previously. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sensible purchasing, it was that style of recruitment that got us out of league one, the championship and won the premier league.

Spending large amounts of cash in quick fashion has actually only ever been detrimental to us.

Palace have just had a 10 million bid turned down for Mbodji as well.

I don't see the tragedy here Matt 6 month loan with option to buy signed as cover..... can play right back and centre back like Hernandez allegedly could.

There's not a problem here or a tragedy I don't think just a load of weird hysteria.

Oh and have we learnt nothing from buying Vardy from Fleetwood ****ing Town - apparently not.

We have been watching this guy for more than 3 days and when featuring for Mali must have showed something that interested the team.

I hope I'm proven wrong, I really do, but this just looks awful compared to what we have been linked with. I don't see any comparison with Fleetwood and Vardy, even though he was at a low level he was a highly sought after player, he wasn't a cast off sent out on loan sat on a bench.

Since the summer our signings have been pretty awful in the main and this one on paper looks another one.

The saving grace is that it's a loan!!  I dont see him as a first team player, just a backup to Simpson

That's a well taken header!

You never know... jury is open for me. One signs for Leicester and gets a chance, the other goes Italy and doesn't. No way saying they are the same but he could be a decent professional. Has certainly played in a winning team.

Now the conundrum begins..... is it a Walsh or a Ranieri signing!

It may have worked in the Championship. But I wouldn't say, that it

worked in the 2014/15 season, because it got us almost relegated.

You can't establish a club in the PL on a shoestring budget, if the

other teams are spending big. It may work for one season, but not

in the long run.

With a 30m red line obviuosly still valid, LCFC has no chance to

sign any top-drawer players, because in a crazy market, that is

awash in TV and Chinese money, 30m is just not enough to buy

us real quality. Not anymore.

Sad, but true.

We didn't get relegated though, we finished 14th... so it worked out in the end.

We're not even particularly running on a shoestring, especially not this season in which we've spent £77.5m. £43m the season before and £20m the first season. We had one of the biggest net spends outside the usual candidates.

Yes the club preached getting value for money, but we'd always mix it up. Pearson admitted overspending on what they thought Ulloa was worth, because they had strengthened other areas quite cheaply. It's about finding a balance.

Some wild reactions on here. Probably from the same people who said the world had ended this time last year when we didn't drop about £30m on Musa.

We need to strengthen our defence long term but there's no point doing it in january. We won't get relegated.

Did you see our last league game against Southampton??  I wish I shared your optimism. We need some players in.

On what evidence are you basing your opinion that we won't get relegated? From our recent form I think there is a good chance we will be relegated if things don't change quick. Swansea have started picking up points and we can't have this mentality that we are "too good to go down". We have been pathetic for most of this season and a lot of that has been down to terrible defending.

Also more woe for us, as they sold him cheap and we weren't the ones to buy him!

We're in a relegation battle too.

We didn't buy Snodgrass cos we don't need him. We have plenty of options for wingers. And although Mahrez hasn't been great this season, I think most would be pissed off if we played Snodgrass for the rest of the season and stuck Mahrez on the bench

I'm slightly more optimistic that it's likely we scouted him along with Kante when they were both at Caen. May not be a desperate signing like we think, but one that was on Walsh's wish list..

We're in desperate need of a defender and the best we can do is loan someone who can't get a game for a club bottom of la liga. Would have been laughable in the championship, that.

What happened to signing players better than we have already, are we seriously satisfied with what we have?

It's difficult to get better than what you have without paying like mad for it.

Palace have just spent 30m on Jeff Schlupp and Patrick Van Aanholt for their left side ffs.
