Fairly confident he did. Lamps referred to turning down a Prem team cos he didnt want to join a relegation battle. I'd say given his priors that it was us.

Thought that was Swansea. If it was us then bit of an Ingrate seeing how highly he speaks of Claudio and how he ''owes everything'' to the Don.

Could be. Just feels like it could have been our mystery man, just perhaps a relegation fight may have tarnished his retirement, so turned us down despite his fawning of Ranners.

Likely last chance he will ever have of kicking a ball in the Champions League. If he came I don't think we would get relegated he would galvanize the place. I thought the mystery man was 18m transfer fee or maybe that was just one of those rumours.

Definitely Ranners hour of need

Right then, im probably going to get ripped apart for saying this but why not sign Lampard up until the rest of the season.

Lampard is currently 38 and a free agent, but theres few players that know the Premier League better than him.

We all know his ability and not only is his passing second to none, he can bag the odd goal.

Much like when we brought in Cambiasso, i think Lampard would be a great addition to influence the rest of the team and begin playing football again rather than these pathetic long balls.

Plus, come the end of the season maybe he will remain in a coaching role until hes ready to take the inevitable next step as a manager.

Don't think he would fancy being in a relegation battle. Probably already quoted as saying that to be honest.

I agree he'd be a good influence, but it wouldn't happen.

Direct from the horse's mouth.

“I have turned down a few Premier League offers, but after being at Chelsea for so long and a year with Manchester City, I don’t want to get involved in a relegation dogfight. I understand my weaknesses".

Silly not to take a chance on Caceres. Quality defender who's played for some of Europe's biggest clubs.

Surprised nobody has snapped him up already.

Palace said they are interested but it's a deal they would look to do when the window has closed, so I am sure Big Sam is well ahead of us on that one.

Doubt we are interested anyway. We seem to have blind faith in our current bunch.

Great thread. It makes me want to get into a time machine and go back ten years!!

Martin Caceres is a decent player and I was surprised to read he has been without a club since the summer. I always thought he was decent. Apparently he has had trials with a couple of prem clubs including Palace who opted not to go for him. The papers reckon he is on the verge of signing for Milan though. Unfortunately he must take 4-6 weeks at least to get match fit after such a long spell out through inactivity. Still, I would have had him on trial to have a look for sure but he is a bit of a long shot.

The rest are quite funny. Reo-Coker!! Nzogbia!! Carlton Cole!!! I reckon a load of D2 clubs wouldnt go anywhere near. I can imagine Reo-coker ending up at Salford so he can be on TV with the Man Utd ex-players who own that club for really they are largely a bunch of old have beens.

Caceras ruptured his Achilles tendon back in February of '16 IIRC. One of the absolute worst injuries for an athlete, give me an ACL/MCL tear any day. Players are almost never the same when they blow an Achilles. Decent article discussing it: http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/basketball/news/history-not-kind-for-ruptured-achilles-recovery/

Caceres is still back in his native Uruguay, getting back to full fitness. I posted the link in the "Who do you want?" thread a while ago:

But you'd think he's Italy-bound, with the rumor-mill strongly connecting him with clubs such as Roma or Fiorentina. La Liga is also mentioned as a likely destination.
