Under the powers, which will be in place between 12 noon and 11pm on the day of the 7.45pm match at the King Power Stadium, officers will be able to search anyone they believe may be carrying offensive weapons or other "dangerous items", such as flares. Also, officers will be able to order potential trouble-makers to leave specified areas of the city for 48 hours, Leicestershire Police said today. The powers under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 have been authorised by Assistant Chief Constable Phil Kay and will be in force within the city's outer ring road. Supt Steve Potter, who will be in charge of policing the match. said: "We're looking forward to working with Leicester City Football Club to welcome over 32,000 fans to the King Power Stadium on Wednesday. "Our officers will be in the city and at the stadium, helping to keep you safe throughout the evening. "If you see us, please say hello, ask us about the restrictions. "We appreciate some people may be concerned by these restrictions. "However, I would like to reassure you that they are in place to protect fans and enable everyone to have a safe and peaceful event. The Leicester Mercury asked the force for further detail of its grounds for introducing the powers, which are reserved for times or events of heightened risk of violence. It responded: "All football matches are categorised and staffed based on intelligence available to the force. "These are constantly reviewed throughout the football season and in the run up to any matches, with dedicated football officers sharing information via a number of different systems. "We will be working closely with the stewards, the club and Derbyshire Police, who are supplying officers, to make sure the fans are safe inside and outside the ground." A number of City fans who attended the match at Derby last week, which ended in a draw, criticised Derbyshire Police for its officers' allegedly heavy-handed approach. norwichfox Posted 8 February 2017 Posted 8 February 2017 To me it seems an unnecessarily harsh measure which possibly could be seen as an invitation by some of the trouble makers that taint football (who knows how their tiny minds work?). After the disgusting way (allegedly) the Derby Police treated the fans following the first tie is this a "we've closed ranks" statement about the police (even though one member of the Derby Police was sacked (must be true, I read it on here). How nice to see that Derby will also be supplying officers, they did such a wonderful job. I expect to be reading some horror story tomorrow that's connected to innocent fans that got caught up in a furore.

fazzyfox Posted 8 February 2017 Posted 8 February 2017 So Derbyshire are providing officers as well? It'll be easy to tell them apart from ours, they'll be the ones whacking anything that moves then telling their bosses a load of bull. Surprised they can spare any what with suspensions.

You say they're being cautious, but if they're claiming this is intelligence-based then surely there's no need for such a ridiculous 'one size fits all' style of policing?

Remember everyone, If you want to remain safe from the unyielding thugs that hide amongst the football Police then walk quicker than the people in front and drag your children if they aren't fast enough for PC Hooligan's liking.
Monsell1976 Posted 8 February 2017 Posted 8 February 2017 Gives them plenty of scope to misuse/ abuse their powers. Using force and searching anybody, wether they are attending football or not, I can just see them rubbing their hands together, looking forward to throwing their weight around.

Thought they did a brilliant job with all the crowds for our parade etc. If someones carrying pyro and gets caught tough, thats the risk they take. As for any drunks fighting, tough also, if you can't do the time as they say...

I nearly asked for their phone number at the end.... Also i hope they have the horses out and lock them in tonight because coming out the ground at their end was appalling.
stripeyfox Posted 8 February 2017 Posted 8 February 2017 Only time I've been stopped under Section 60 was before a game against Chelsea at Filbert Street (maybe the last season there?). Was in a group of three and stopped near the train station. Officers were perfectly polite (as were we) and I submitted to the search after he explained his reasons for doing so.

The team is struggling and they have a slim chance of going up so this can save their season. I think there will be a lot of "short fuse" guys in the game and they could go off if they are bothered a little.
