Ranieri gets stay of execution till end of season after talks

Recommended Posts

The Times just published the story saying he had late night talks with Top and will NOT be sacked this season.

The owners will take dim view of any approach by players to them to unseat the manager. Players thought to be at fault by owners not the manager.

Issues are deterioration of relationships between Ranieri and some players and between some players, with particular reservations over training and perceived lack of days off. Some think it's too intense. Last season, coaching and Sports Science guys told him to lessen it but this season, he has 'trusted his own judgement'. Complaints too he is not enough of a disciplinarian on issues away from football.

Dressing room friction over wages, quality and form between some of those from last season and those who arrived in the summer (?).

He will make changes with Huth most at risk. However that will be for Millwall game with Fuchs, Huth and Morgan likely to be 'dropped'. Ranieri wants to assess form of Chilwell and Amartey...

A game against a League 1 side... a game which is ahead of the Seville game... So Huth is not really being dropped then is he.

Claudio Ranieri was promised that he would not be sacked by Leicester City before the end of the season in late-night talks with the club’s owner after their fifth straight league defeat on Sunday.

The Leicester manager spoke to Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha after the champions lost 2-0 to Swansea City, leaving them two points off the bottom of the Premier League table in 17th.

Ranieri’s relationship with his players is understood to have deteriorated during a woeful run of form in which Leicester became the first reigning champions to go six games without scoring and more than 300 days without an away league win.

Some members of the squad have reservations about aspects of Ranieri’s intense training methods and a perceived lack of days off but the club have made it clear that they would take a dim view of players approaching them asking for the manager to be changed.

Wes Morgan, the captain, was given a week off recently but, in general, the squad have been training at high levels of intensity and had few days off. Ranieri was asked to ease the workload by members of his coaching and sports science staff last season but, this year, he has mostly trusted his own judgment.

Other players feel that he has been too lenient in allowing them to enjoy themselves too much away from football when he should have been more of a disciplinarian. In addition there is friction in the dressing room over wages, quality and form between the players who won the title and those that were signed in the summer.

Ranieri admitted after the defeat by Swansea that he may have been too loyal to the players who delivered the shock Premier League title last season and the owner also believes that the blame for the slump should be shouldered in the main by the squad.

The manager called an unexpected training session yesterday for those players who appeared for only part of Sunday’s game. He plans to make changes to his defence with Christian Fuchs, Wes Morgan and Robert Huth likely to be dropped for the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Millwall, with one eye on the next league game against Liverpool a week on Monday.

Ranieri was likely to shuffle his starting line-up against the Sky Bet League One side regardless, but he wants to assess the form of Daniel Amartey and Ben Chilwell. Huth is the first-team player most in danger.

Morgan admitted that the players held talks last week, but there was little reaction on the pitch. “We had a big week this week talking, trying to put things right and trying to build the team spirit so we can get ourselves out of this mess,” Morgan said. “We will remain positive and focused. We still have games to get results.”

Gary Lineker says that he would give Claudio Ranieri “a job for life” at Leicester and believes the manager should not be sacked even if they are relegated.

“Even if they went down, personally I think it would leave a bad taste in the mouth to get rid of him, after what he did and the way he handled everything [last season],” said Lineker, the host of BT Sport’s Champions League coverage and a former Leicester player.

“I’d find it terribly sad. I’d give him a job for life, whatever happens, but this is football, and the owners ultimately decide.”

The players are unmotivated, tired, out of form, and don't have proper team spirit.

The manager is disregarding the backroom staff and doesn't have a clue tactically.

And the owners won't sack Claudio.

Our only hope is that Rudkin put in some wage cut relegation clauses... and that the players step up not thinking about transfers away.

Why would Claudio just start disregarding the coaching and sports science staff this season? And why wouldn't he have seen the error in his ways by now? Have those bridges already been burned?

The increasing focus on Shakey's total lack of communication with Claudio during games makes sense if he not only has lost the locker room but also the staff.

I find it hard to believe Claudio has changed the training routine THAT much from last season. The team came to pre season out of shape compared to 12 months earlier so he cracked the whip presumably.

Nothing wrong with that, and the players aren't working hard enough in matches so he's upping the intensity in training.

If he was overworking them I think we would have quite a few injuries.

Players need to shut the fvck up and get on with playing PROPERLY!.

THEY are the ones letting this club down, these players were able to win the league last year, this year they cant even win a game, thats not down to the manager.

If they are pi$$ed off, they need to sort it out..but NOT by playing like a bunch of 6 year olds who cant string 5 passes together, IF the dressing room is lost, it STILL comes back to the PLAYERS! You dont stop playing... you dont stop trying, you show some pride and responsibility to your fans and get your ar$e out there and play up to your ability.

If you are a player who is unhappy and not trying... then WALK AWAY, dont turn up on a Saturday and put in a half shift that is pi$$ poor and embarrassing for you and our club.

Play properly.. or FVCK OFF!

Isn't it so hard having to train kicking a football around for 4 hours a day rather than 3 every other day...

I'm on my second 4am alarm this week and I bet other FTers have even harder slogs to earn less money.

This is is a matter of pride boys, something that drove us to the finish line last year. I'd fvcking love to be in that dressing room right now tearing into these prima donas.

I love how there are no quotes to back anything up. They could just make up anything that sounds half plausible.

He'll continue to play 4 4 2 or a terrible hybrid and we'll continue to keep slipping down the league, terrific.

Made me laugh when the article said we would be dropping players for Millwall.

Right, I'm lumping on relegation.

Is it Vardy being referred to regarding the tensions off field stuff and perhaps between him and Slimani over 'quality' etc.  Could perhaps explain Mahrez supposed attitude?

Lots to speculate about but much of the allusions in the article back up some of the 'leaks'. Claudio wanting to do his thing. This hard training rather than psychologists etc.? Old school ways. And the players don't like it

Though you are right, it just doesn't work like that.

The one ultimately responsible and expendable is always the manager. Thus it has always been.

The owners have not been sufficiently vigilant to the breakdown in relations between manager and players and it's gonna cost us. Big time I guess.

It takes some seriously bad management from a company to turn one of the tightest happiest bunch of employees into one of the worst performing unhappy looking groups of people in about 3-6 months.

The owners have to take responsibility as much as Ranieri, Rudkin and the players if they genuinely can't see that this is only heading one way. No amount of Claudio's post match rubbish is going to change that.

It takes some really bad employees to be treated like kings by their employer yet slack off and disrespect the company And generally set out to destroy the companies good progress

Shows we have changed a lot of things off the field which have impacted very badly on it.

Players do like to be mollycoddled, if that is the right term, a way which Ranieri perhaps actually doesn't go for. So be 'Lions', train hard, none of this sports science/psychologists new fangled stuff in his mind?

Then the petty jealousies which perhaps CR has remained aloof from and not dealt with?

Speculation of course but all in all a mess...
