AyewJoking Posted 15 July 2017 Posted 15 July 2017 They saw our black shirt with subtle sleeve sponsor and thought they'd test how stupid we really are??

nnfox Posted 15 July 2017 Posted 15 July 2017 Everybody knows that the first bid will be rejected. Roma knew that. The offer was to start a conversation. They will be prepared to spend more. They know our valuation of 50m. 35m is right in the middle and we know they have go that in the bank. I would think that their final offer will be somewhere between 30-35m at which point the club have a decision to make. I can't see anyone coming in with 50m for him so if he is going to go, I would think 35m would be the best price we could negotiate without a bidding war.

Why would we accept £30-£35m? Roma have just received £40m for Salah and loads from champions league.

The PL has a lot more money than Seria A, in fact whichever clubs finished 20th in the PL receive more money than whichever club wins Seria A. If you're looking for £50mill then it won't come from a side like Roma. Well then they can't afford him then. Either way he's not getting sold at that price, if the asking price is too much for them then boo hoo, that's not our problem.

If they don't want to pay that, fine. He's worth £40m+ to us so we should keep him in that eventuality. Roma will be under presssure to bring in some quality having lost Salah and a couple of others - with Milan making some good (and in one case unbelievable) signings, Juve being Juve, Napoli being as good as they've been for 25 years and even Inter threatening to get it together they're going to have a scrap to keep their CL place.
RODNEY FERNIO Posted 15 July 2017 Posted 15 July 2017 Might force Wenger's hand to make a bid of £30,000,001 ... at least in his mind it will show the Arsenal fans that he is trying.

We are simply not going to get £50m for a want away player after a poor season who doesn't have half a dozen teams beating the door down for his signature. If the club wanted to keep Mahrez, they would just come out and say that he isn't for sale at any price. But they haven't and that speaks volumes. Ultimately the market will decide the price but we are open to offers and I would wager that if we have one bid of £35m come the closing days of the transfer window, Riyad will be off.
Gerard Posted 15 July 2017 Posted 15 July 2017 £20m would probably get you Chris Wood nowadays. In fact it's arguable that £20m might not be able to buy you every player in the Championship. This is a 26 year old who was 7th in the Balon d'Or and ex POTY.
Tielemans63 Posted 15 July 2017 Posted 15 July 2017 Interesting that Sky's report said that the bid was made in a meeting between Macia and Monchi - does that suggest that we're actively trying to sell him? Can't imagine him wanting to go to Roma btw

Guest Posted 15 July 2017 Posted 15 July 2017 Loads of rumours going around about Mahrez's agent agrreeing terms with Roma etc. About time we did what Soton did to Liverpool and started shouting about tapping up.

katieakita Posted 15 July 2017 Posted 15 July 2017 Think Roma need to be told to Fvck off and when they get there Fvck off a bit further and keeping Fvcking off until they get get where they started and Fvck off again, cheeky barstewards probably got us to pick up the Tab for the rinks as well.
StriderHiryu Posted 15 July 2017 Posted 15 July 2017 It's never a great idea to keep an unhappy player around but £20m is a joke! Salah was unproven in England but was purchased back for near 40m. Riyad had a poor season last term but is proven in one of the toughest leagues. Also if Riyad does go to Roma he's selling himself so short. He has the ability to play for a much better team.

That is a matter for Shakey and his team. However, I would think that there might be something of a new shape to us in the upcoming season. I would argue that we are in a position to experiment a little. There was a lot of clamour on here to give Gray a proper run out, there are other youngsters like Harvey Barnes and Tom Lawrence, not forgetting Chilwell who can play a little further up the pitch too. I'm not sure that spending £30-50m on a "replacement" that would just push the youngsters further back down the line which then leads to the question - what is the point of bringing the youngsters in for development if they never get a chance? Give them a chance, bank the money. If we need to spend big in January, then do it.

Joefox Posted 15 July 2017 Posted 15 July 2017 they've got cheek I'll give them that. is Mahrez a better player than Salah? Absolutely. Dig a little deeper, Roma
