Not as far apart as you think on this one. Could well happen in a few days.

Yep the 15-20m shortfall in Roma's offer is peanuts and as you say not that far apart.

Roma is an odd one as basically they are shite. Never gone win their league and will be serial failures in the champions league.

Mahrez is scraping the barrel if he truly thinks this is a step up.

Gotta agree with this. I think Mahrez would play well at Roma, due to the slower way the Italians play, but I don't see it as any step up, other than living in Rome.

Just because we're "holding out" for £50 mil it doesn't mean we won't negotiate down a little bit.

If someone bids around £40m, I think we'll try and find a middle ground with them and get a deal that is around 45 with everything included. We could hang on to him but if he really doesn't want to be here and he doesn't return to title season form, his value will seriously start to drop and we'll lose him for far less than he is worth.

I think 45 is a reasonable-ish amount for him given this seasons performance. He should be worth more really but the only way that happens is if he stays, plays like he did season before last and someone makes a pressure buy in January. I'm struggling to see who that would be though really. Only team who seem interested here is Arsenal, but there's no way they're parting with 45+ for Mahrez in January, it's just not their style.

I think the question needs to turn to who is going to replace him we will be badly lacking in creativity when he goes. Gray for me doesn't offer enough, we need 3 quality wide/attacking midfielders with Barnes and Lawrence providing cover.

The pursuit of Sigurdsson suggests to me we'll be playing 4-2-3-1 or 5-3-2.

Listening to Morgan it sounds like Musa has been ripping it up pre season so maybe... just  maybe we'll see the Musa we paid 18m for and he'll slip straight into the hole vacated by Mahrez

Fair enough for £40m and we never have to play against him again unless we draw them in the Champions League next season

Think people have to remember we got him for £400k so it's a hell of a profit, pump the money we get into players that want to be here and remember all the good times Riyad gave us.

Who exactly?  If no clubs come in with the full asking price, who else do we sell him too?

Part of the problem is that Mahrez seems to be second or third choice transfer target, nobody appears desperate to sign him which unfortunately for us, keeps his price on the low side of reasonable.

It's not necessarily full asking price, the whole point of an asking price (in any walk of life) is you set it higher than you actually value your asset to negotiate down, but other clubs need to accept the negotiations to the value we're happy to settle for - if they don't, they don't get him. If no one else comes in paying an acceptable price, then he can be professional, play for six months and go in January. None of this "give him away because he doesn't want to stay" - he goes if the terms are right for all parties, just like any other transfer.

Rome is quite a pleasant place. 1hr 45 flight to Algeria.

Nicer than London.

What's that got to do with it?

Spurs got Harry Kane for free.  Do you think they'd let him go cheaply?

£40 million isn't cheap really is it? He's going to the AFCON every 2 years, so he's guaranteed to be missing 6 weeks of the season minimum, realistically we were never going to get more than £45 million max for him.

It's irrelevant what we paid for him whether it be £400k or £400m.

If you bought your council flat in Kensington for £5k in 1975 it doesn't mean you should accept a lot less than the £1.5m it's worth now according to the market.

Look "sorry" to labour this point but if you act and think small time that's how commercial competitors come to view and treat you . If you are unhappy withSpurs as a comparator how about Swansea . They have been quite clear about their valuation of Gylfi and that has been accepted . No need to reply I accept a difference in perspective .

Difference is, Sigurdsson has never said he wants to leave, Mahrez has. We should get fuching rid of any player that publicly states he wants to leave us, but don't sell him to an EPL team for less than £50m. If Roma are prepared to pay £35/40m, then let him go and play in an inferior league.

Question is, would people be ok with letting Mahrez go to Everton if it meant we get Sigurdsson?

No that would be terrible business.

If we want to compete for European places, we shouldn't be selling our talisman to a rival.

It would be piss funny if he ended up at Everton

To be fair they are a club who would spunk out £40+ for him. Def don't want to see him going to another PL club. If he does them I'm putting a lot of money on him scoring against us

Yes but thinking he was gonna get a big move to Barca but ends up basically making a sideways move further away from London lol
