shen Posted 15 May 2017 Posted 15 May 2017 Only just saw that short video of Slimani and Mahrez talking. Am I the only one who thinks it doesn't really add up? Firstly, without being a lip reader, I just don't match the sounds to the lips and subtitles as they're presented. Is it even genuine? Secondly, wouldn't they be talking together in Arab? Thirdly, they're weird comments when eyes are on you. Especially as Chelsea becoming champions couldn't have been a surprise to either Mahrez or Slimani with us being defending champions, Kanté playing there and Chelsea having played the day before. That said, can't really blame Mahrez if his head is being turned. The sort of success he's had with us probably exceeded his hopes when he moved here at that age. He could only dream of playing for a club of Chelsea's stature, yet now it seems a realistic proposition.

People chuck £30m around on players who've had worse seasons that Mahrez has and without the sort of record he had last year and the skills he's got. He can do things others can't, and that should always put a premium on him. I'm sure the bigger clubs know that in a passing team creating more space for him with more attacking threats pulling people away from him he could cause mayhem.
AmarteyAndChill Posted 15 May 2017 Posted 15 May 2017 I guess Chelsea could play Mahrez at RF and Pedro at wing back as he's up and down non stop? Apart from that I don't see where he fits in.
Tielemans63 Posted 15 May 2017 Posted 15 May 2017 I'm amazed by the stick Mahrez gets from Leicester fans. Brilliant player and has given us some of the best moments most of us have ever seen from a City player. He didn't **** off at the first opportunity like some did and showed loyalty when many wouldn't have. This season was always going to be tough, he's heavily marked man and yet he's being pulled to pieces by some. The Chelsea thing really is an absolute mountain out of a molehill, he expressed mild appreciation for another club. Wow.

Mahrez is Muslim isn't he?The quaran is written in Arabic.

Collymore Posted 11 August 2017 Author Posted 11 August 2017 Interesting reading back through this. Still none the wiser to see if the more optimistic or pessimistic posters will be right!!
desertfox2 Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 60m after he destroys Arsenal tonight to show Wenger what he's missing. Here's hoping (That he destroys Arsenal, not that we sell him)
UPinCarolina Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 He's going to make Arsenal tap out. I'm hungover, maybe still drunk - but I honestly think he's about to rip the PL a new arsehole.

Mahrez had three years left on his contract and was rewarded with a massive pay rise.
cc_star Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 A key thing about Mahrez last season (apart from Ranieri's disastrous tactics) is that he always had 2 or 3 men on him & us as a club never had an answer to that. That wouldn't happen to him at Roma, arsenal or elsewhere because there's other players who can In the signing of Iheanacho, plus the possession abilities of Maguire & Iborra MAY mean that Mahrez gets less attention & he receives a better pass, or when he's picked out when he's better available, obviously it's not going to change our whole way of playing, but there are aspects of our summer additions that make keeping Mahrez even more important than if we hadn't strengthened
MrSpaM Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 Interesting article on the BBC today regarding goal chance percentage from positions on the pitch Apparently Mahrez was the 3rd most wasteful player in the league last season, measured on expected goals from his position when he shot, it includes players that had over 50 shots in the season http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40699431
funkyrobot Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 We're gonna have a fantastic fortnight of Mahrez magical skills and miraculously on transfer deadline day, one of the so called top 6 will offer near enough £50 mill which we'll be obliged to take. We'll then have no time to buy a replacement and will have to limp through to January with a weakened team. We'll then panic buy someone in the January window who will be overpriced (as everyone will know we have the Mahrez moola) and they'll also be massively overrated. FACT. Probably.

I don't understand 'Leicester' fans if I can call you that, who put one player before the club.

Even with the buyout clause Kanté could have said Conté **** off and stayed. He didn't and never wanted to. I'm not putting Mahrez above the club. Just fairly annoyed by the stick he's getting for a laid back attitude he always had and no one gave a fvck about when he was tearing the league a new one. The whole team underperformed last season, yet he's the one who got the most stick. Fickle much. We saw this pre-season how it looks like without him.

One had a release clause and could go. The other had a three year contract and could not. He is criticised because last year he was half the player he was the previous year. And you're annoyed by that? It's not because he is a laid back character. He is the best player at the club and the one whose performance level dropped the most. He deserved all the criticism he got. It is true that a lot of others underperformed like Vardy for most of the year. They were also criticised and they deserved it too.
