Bazly Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 The guys coming up 35 and reported signed 3 year deal for £130k a week. Maybe we have better put spring chicken Vardy on £200k a week. What has the World come to? Maybe if some of the money in the EPL went to lower ticket prices? That'd be radical.
Captain... Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 I know they got him on a free but, that is over £20m for that contract. If you think of it as £10m and £65,000 p/w then it isn't so bad.

Jon the Hat Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 That wage was apparently bullshit, is £65k a week for 3 years.

Countryfox Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 Dafoe in Damoney !! ... he can still do it though and I think he'll score a hatful next season.
Jon the Hat Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 In the current crazy world of player wages that looks quite reasonable really.
stevelcfc Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 Wait till you look at Benny's instagram and see the yacht Shakey, Benny, Simmo, Chilly et al are on in Nice!
Wymsey Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 I have respect for teams like Bournemouth when they came up, surpassing many expectations and staying in the most competitive league with their small ground/infrastructure etc. However, I'm beginning to think that other small clubs in the lower divisions that have the similar infrastructure etc shouldn't see Bournemouth as 'inspiration' to try and be where they're now. They've, now (not forgetting how much they've spent on Ibe and Afobe in particular), starting to 'spend spend spend, via paying over-the-odds on a mid-thirties striker that has, to be honest, seen better days in what he offers and his age considered and expect this as a sign on 'intent' and strive forward as a club. Yes, Defoe is well-renowned in the English game but this just stinks of pure greed both for himself and the club - and activities like this could be 'karma' for them if things don't work out and they end up getting relegated and regretting doing these type of deals in the first place.

They were spending big in their League One days. They are owned by a Russian billionaire who made his money in petrochemicals. I got a little bit tired of hearing the 'little old Bournemouth' line that commentators and pundits alike seem to spew out. That said I think Defoe is an excellent signing for Bournemouth and will prove to be a good fit with the type of football they play.
Guest Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 I think defoe offers a lot on the pitch and off it. Not a bad move for club in Bournemouth's position. Might be over-paying, but you could easily speculate on two players at half his price and end up with nothing. For bournemouth it's probably better to occasionally take 'safe' options like this when they're available.
Fox92 Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 "What is the World coming too" - Fees and wages have been ridiculous for years, not sure why you're surprised. Rhodes and McCormack went for £10millin+ in the Championship.
Thracian Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 I'm usually impressed by people who know what they want, then go and get it. It sure beats reading about all sorts of ifs, buts and maybes. Shakespeare refers to signings being at an advanced stage but we've not even sorted his situation yet. Very reassuring that must be for any prospective arrivals.
Tuna Posted 24 May 2017 Posted 24 May 2017 Don't let twitter gossip fool you, I'm sure the 130K a week is complete bullshit.
