I don't apologise for starting a new thread. This article is brilliant and sums him up perfectly

What a fantastic article.....at least he appreciates the talent we have witnessed yet some fans moan that he doesn't work hard enough or should be sold for £40m or less......

The boy is the most talented footballer to don the blue shirt in my lifetime and possibly ever!

Bit of a fresh take on a subject I thought this board had exhausted.  Thanks for the post.

The article makes me feel nostalgic about his time here, like he's already gone. I know it gets beaten to death, but we really won't appreciate him until he's gone. Sure there will be the typical cynics who will complain about his lack of effort this season, or want an albrighton clone on the right hand side to run himself into the ground and deliver tidy crosses. But for a few seasons we had a footballer who could make magic with his feet. A player who could make the impossible - possible.

Maybe that's why, although many of us are sad to see him go, we're kind of okay with him leaving. Mahrez deserves the move to a club that plays the game differently. I just hope that, for the sake of the club, we are compensated fairly for doing the right thing. A fair transfer fee, and it would be a win for all parties.

He wasn't our best player Vardy was end of.

There was things Mahrez did that season that Vardy could only dream of doing. Absolutely sublime at times

Nope I'm going for Kante ...    closely followed by Mahrez and JV.

Lovely read

£60m please

if Virgil Van Dyke is £70m

mahrez is £60m all day long

After reading that ...   £65m AT LEAST !!   :)

Superb article and have said myself a few times I think in England players like him are under-appreciated.

Agree

if he is sold cheap the owners have no big plans and no bottle

Correct, he was vital to our style of play, broke the goals in consecutive games and I think I'm right in thinking had a higher combined tally of goals and assists than Mahrez?

Kante you could argue also.

Of those three at the end of the PL winning season Mahrez was the one of those three I was least concerned about losing.

And the last 12 months has proven me correct.

So the article does nothing for me.

It's no exaggeration that Mahrez has been adored by some Leicester fans, but whether he reflects the same feelings for our club is another matter.

I'm not convinced he gave his best last season nor was I impressed with the pre-season hype that constantly surrounded him and seemed to affect his focus last summer.

So, while I enjoyed and admired Ronay's shimmering prose, there won't be any blinkered accolades from me,  much as I marvelled and celebrated Mahrez's magic moments and soft-shoe-shuffling as much as everyone else.

Mahrez has drawn and deserved glowing praise for all he's contributed to our unprecedented successes.

But that doesn't detail the whole story of his Leicester Life's Work any more than the article in question, which seems more like a love letter than a masterful portrait, omitting, as it does, all blemishes like a fawning devotee reporting to Stalin on the success of his beloved leader's latest troop movements..

And to some fans, where Mahrez is concerned, when it comes to either love or commitment, disloyalty, perceived or otherwise,  leaves a wound that's hard to heal or forgive, no matter what his more endearing qualities.

And make no mistake. Leicester can cope, and even flourish, with or without Mahrez, however hard he is to replace.

He was for one year only sadly. Then he damaged his hero status by receiving his wages by false pretences and stuck two fingers up to our owners,  coach, team mates and fans.

Stopped reading at the point where he said Mahrez was our best player. Not even close to Kante.

I went back and read it all. Ignoring the ridiculous writing style (sometimes less is more and is a way of showing intelligence), he has a point. He is a great talent and something different. I'd prefer him to go abroad but the league needs players like him on song.

That's a bit like saying Messi is crap at playing the defensive midfielder role. Mahrez lights up the pitch when he's on song, kante does a particular job very well, but he hardly takes your breath away with what he can do.

Yes of course nice WUM

Ridiculous if they are genuine - go support Man U or another big club if that's what you honestly believe

One major flaw -it states Mahrez has only 1 trick? Wtf, he's got loads of them. Most skilful player I've ever seen at LCFC.

Err, no it doesn't.  It states that "Some say Mahrez has only one trick, the one where he dummies on his left foot, cuts inside, dummies again, then dummies again. But what a trick it is – all the trick you’ll ever really need, based on the ability to stop and start quicker than any other person on the pitch, a miracle of power-to-weight ratio, and a unique kind of creative physicality, swaying and bending and feinting with a range of movements that are all his own."
