STUHILL Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 Get him in. Tell him that no clubs other than Roma came in for him and they were no where near the valuation. Get your head down, try to rediscover the 15/16 magic and the big clubs will be in for you in January etc Whether they will or not will be down to him and his form. He should really use this as a wake-up call though and knuckle down if he wants his dream move.
DelBoy73 Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 No doubt Mahrez will feel screwed after how DD managed to get his move to a CL team and him still stuck with us no matter the fact he behaved like a gentleman by agreeing to stay one more season with the promise of a sell when a bid would come in.
ALC Fox Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 This is a big season for Riyad now. He needs to get his head down and earn his move in Jan or next summer. I'm resigned to the fact that he wants to leave. But, if he puts the effort in like he has in the first 3 games and if he gives us another big season or half season, then it will be more than I was expecting at the start of the window.

Did we ever get an offer near what we value him at though? Id say no. Now if Barcalona offer £50m today, that would be interesting. DD got his move because Chelsea paid the right sort of fee and we had a replacement lined up.

"Willing to stay" sounds like he will tolerate playing for us (until a new opportunity arises). He's as much obliged to honour his contract and play professionally just like the club are obliged to pay his wages. I understand his ambitions, but now that nothing's materialised (for reasons we likely won't know for a while) he should knuckle down and do as well as he can to maybe get that move in January. My worry is that his agent is full of **** and has whispered stuff into his ear making Leicester look like the villain. That would make it difficult for Mahrez to find the motivation to play well for us. But then, there's still until midnight tonight until we can say for sure that he will stay a Leicester player until January... Listem, in an ideal world we wouldn't be thanking Riyad for not throwing a fit. However, in today's world, you see all these footballers with contracts throwing a fit (Sanchez, Mbappe, Dembele, Coutinho...) makes you really feel gracious for Mahrez's profesionalism despite the circumstances. He wants to leave, but he didn't say anything bad about Leicester. Did he throw a fit? No. I think he is perfectly entitled to seek out a new challenge on his personal time.

Guest Mee-9 Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 Spanish window doesn't shut until tonight.... That is all.
Dr The Singh Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 The guy has 3 months until the next window, no reason why he can't perform to his highest abilities and earn the move he wants

He stated himself that he would be willing to stay if he doesn't find a new club. Can you really blame him for being amibtious? He wants European football which Leicester cannot provide in the near future. Wanting to leave and pulling a stunt like yesterday are two different matters. As I've said before first and foremost I support LCFC then the players. The club so far has been with me all my life. The club will also be with me for the rest of my life however in a few short years Mahrez has been and showing his colours are not blue.

Just because he's not been that vocal (except his statement) doesn't necessarily mean much. I do not see why we should feel gracious. Do you feel gracious when your kid doesn't act like a spoilt brat or should you really just expect him/her to behave like a well-mannered person? At best, we could feel relieved if Mahrez doesn't kick up a fuss. I don't think we as fans and as a society should accept petulance and downright unprofessionalism which sets unhealthy precedents. He should not dare to say anything bad about Leicester in public, but what happens behind closed doors or in his head is anyone's guess. Again, these antics on deadline day, as well as that statement released after last season ended (without the club's consent), tells me his agent is a bit of a deceitful, self-serving person. Mahrez might in some ways be innocent here because he puts trust in others.

He was just on stand-by in the event of an offer. Imagine if he left to Zambia (10 hour flight from Paris), he would never have made it back in time. Unfortunately for him, he did not get an offer. I support Leicester as-well, but it doesn't mean I can't be happy for my compatriot if he were to sign at UCL-level club. And also, you shouldn't hold grudges because of this. Would you not want the best in career just for the sake of "loyalty" (which doesn't even exist in football).

Are you not annoyed that effectively made himself unavailable for his country and pull out of playing an important qualifier against Zambia? If Harry Kane decided he want wanted to stay in London to push through a move to Barcalona when he was due to play in say Greece for a World Cup qualifier, I'd be livid.

I am, but we have enough RWs, so he isn't indispensable either. Besides, we have the home game on Wednesday (i believe), hopefully he will be available and hungrier than ever. Obviously, his future comes before everything, and that's why the coach Lucas Alcaraz excused him from the line up. \ EDIT: Actually now that I think about, we don't have him Feghouli.. so we only have Ghezzal for RW? O.o

Just look at this transfer market drama.. I sometimes do wonder why clubs give players new contracts that still have some time before expiry. Selling Mahrez last season for £40-50m would've been easy and would have saved the club a lot on wages I know what you are saying, my stance is that just because the situation is as it is with players today, doesn't mean that we, as mere mortals making a tiny fraction of their astronomical wages, have to readily accept that this is how it should be. Ultimately, if it wasn't for gullible and loyal fans, TV audiences etc. These players would earn the square root of nothing. I think quite a lot of fans have been forgiving and have accepted and understood Mahrez' "ambitions", because most would recognise the hypocrisy if roles were reversed. But that is as far as our understanding should go. I'll stop my rant now.
ARM1968 Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 Mahrez to............no fucher. That's what playing like a cvnt gets you. Maybe he'll wise up now and put his Messi boots back on.

ARM1968 Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 Yeah mate, they'll be falling over themselves to sign the bloke who forgot where he dropped his tools last season. Get ready for Real and Barca to slug it out for RM - not!!

He leaves his international training camp and flies back to Europe. His club have no idea why or when. We have not accepted a deal and no offers in the pipeline. He made us as a club look stupid as we had no clue what was going on with one of our own players. He's even pulled the wool over the eyes of his Algerian team. They released him from training in all good faith to sign a deal that did not exist. Some Hero.

Listen bro, I think the whole situation was blown out of perspective by the media. He clearly went to Paris as a result of the United and Chelsea rumours prior to deadline day in-case of a transfer. He knew that had he gone to Zambia, there would've been no way he would've came back in time. The club is aware that Mahrez wished to leave, and they agreed to let him go assuming an appropriate offer were to come in. So where is the problem?
