SouthStandUpperTier Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 Riyad's gonna live at CDG airport like Tom Hanks in The Terminal until he gets his move.

Hopefully we'll have a great year and he'll leave in the summer on our terms. He wants gone so the sooner the better. He's flown thousands of miles to sign a move that don't exist. It's going to be a case now of accept whatever is offered.

Last season there were multiple problems, not just a lacklustre Mahrez. We saw glimpses but not the real deal. This year I feel we have a chance to do something. Once we get Nacho in the side I think we'll be an exciting team to watch and we'll score plenty of goals. I'm optimistic.
3stevo Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 At least he centralised himself in Paris instead of driving himself to random clubs ?

He's got plenty of years on his deal left so if he has a good season then I'm certain teams will be queuing up for him which will mean he goes to the highest bidder potentially.

This is true, certainly the point about playing against the lesser teams. Against Brighton Riyad was popping up all over the pitch, sometimes dropping deep in a central role, operating in the number 10 position and hugging the touchline. When we expect to have more of the ball it will enable him to have a more free role which will prevent teams from doubling up on him so much.

I don't see him having a good season now. I don't see some players wanting him to play. Coming out saying he wanted out was bad enough. But this is just total disrespect for the club and the fans.

He hasn't refused to play/train and for me they'll still be plenty of moments this season when watching him that you'll hear the crowd marvel at something he does. He can be wonderful to watch and I'm just glad he's still here. We may never see someone of his ilk again.

That does not mean I have to accept him being a tw@. Watching ssn highlights of today. Was really funny listening to the guy at our training ground keep saying we did not know where Mahrez was. He's made our club look a fvcking joke.

Coutinho probably being the best example. Like I say, it's modern football. Unless something drastic happens with regard to the procedure of transfers this is the way it will be. Agents hold far too much power. If anything I think the owners and the club can look back on this transfer window with their heads held pretty, pretty....pretty high.
urban.spaceman Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 SO..... Is Mahrez still a Leicester City player?

MIAMI_FOX Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 Needs to get his head down now for us and accept no club felt he was worth 50 m quid, 3 yrs left on his contract I think so he'd better start performing. Still in the shop window for Jan
volpeazzurro Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 Does make you wonder which Marhez we'll get back after the internationals? Disappointed? A bit embarassed? Earlier in the day a Spanish correspondent on Talksport had said he was way down the list for Barcelona. They'd watched him many times and recognised his abilities but just felt that he lacked the industry to be a Barcelona player and wouldn't therefore really be an improvement on what they'd got. Who knows whether this is true or not but it does have a ring of truth about it, particularly for last season. If an average fullback like Walker can sell for 50m , Sigurdson 45m, Ox and Drinkwater for 35m, then I don't think our owners were unrealistic in asking for between 40 and 50m. I hope there's a nice end to this story though, accepting that Marhez will leave at some stage. Despite my past huge criticism of him mainly due to last season, he remains a hell of a talent. Arsenal didn't really want him and left him hanging around and they are not good enough, big enough now or appreciative enough of his talent. I would like to see the happy ending of him getting his dream move of Barcelona as to do so means that he will have come back, got his head down with us, have added that industry to his exceptional talent and ultimately fulfilled his promise. It's down to him. Good luck Ryhad, it's down to you son, go for it!
StriderHiryu Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 I feel a bit sorry for Riyad as his agent let him down! Surprised we've managed to keep him but he should realise he needs to prove he's worth the fee.

Merging Cultures Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 He has been clearly misled by his agent. I think he was told to come back to Europe in case he is needed to finalise a deal. I don't think Mahrez himself was trying to force a deal. He'll come back, be embarrassed, but hopefully puts a shift in and performs. If not, he can easily be benched now.

Would have been surprised if you didn't have a dig at him, now that the window is closed. He's still going to start every week, can't wait to read your posts. As long as he gets picked on merit; he's started this season better; and gives the the requisite end product I will not be slating him
st albans fox Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 Was a shame that the Algerian FA released their tweet. if they had said nowt then the whole charade could have gone under the radar. Unless of course he signs for Barca later today!
Joefox Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 I can imagine he's even more pissed off now he's seen Drinkwater go to Chelsea for 35 million
Grebfromgrebland Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 Best thing we can do is welcome him back with open arms, chant his name and let him know that we want him here. He might be embarrassed but we need him to perform like he we know he can. Especially if Silva doesn't work out. Maybe the best of Mahrez is yet to come....
roblcfc84 Posted 1 September 2017 Posted 1 September 2017 I also feel a bit sorry for him - I believe his agent has been pulling the strings to earn himself a nice big payoff. Riyad has received some dreadful advice by the look of it - if anything he actions yesterday just made him look desperate and selfish, which I don't believe he is. Top players don't need to do that, and whilst I think he is a technically gifted footballer I don't believe he is on the same level as the likes of Hazard, Silva, for example. This might be wishful thinking and whilst he has arguably bettered himself, I always get the feeling kante was happier at Leicester and again there could well have been agent involvement there.
