The furore over gambling in football is really boring. "I don't like X so it should be regulated away"

Mate, come on now....

It's not really a case of "I don't like gambling".... Gambling addictions can and does tear families apart. That's not an overstatement. There was a lovely lady on here not that long ago who's story is proof of that and hers is sadly not an uncommon one.

Like @Finnegan said above, very few are wanting it outright banned but certainly looked at. Especially with regards to advertising free bets etc.

It's not like it needs it. Gambling will always be around, no one is going out of business if they dont have a stadium full of billboards.

I think this is a surprisingly disappointing take from you mate to be honest.

I don't think the actual majority of people want an outright ban on gambling. A very vocal minority on social media, maybe.

But I'd say the majority of people speaking up just want to see a ban on the advertising particularly in and around sport.

I'd say I'm fairly Liberal in my views of what should and shouldn't be banned. I don't care if people want to drink, smoke, pay sex workers, take drugs, gamble, etc. If everyone involved is a consenting adult and nobody's getting harmed then you do you.

But a disproportionately large number of people have problems with gambling and being baited in to it around sport, betting adverts on every break during the football or plastered all over football grounds and shirts feels just as predatory as putting Payday Loans adverts all over football and other traditionally working class venues and media.

And its not like betting companies really need the advertising. We all know what the product is and what they're offering by now. They advertise to compete with each other more than to sell the concept of gambling so if none of them can advertise then, hey, the playing field is level.

Then they're going to have to get by on repeat custom which probably means having to offer a better experience to their regular customers anyway so, here's the good news, if you actually enjoy casual sports betting than an advertising ban probably serves your personal interests too.

Surely after five hundred pages (!!!) you know that posting in here is gonna start a debate and get you feedback though lol

Especially if it is actually an unpopular opinion.

Oh, so you meant to put it in the "Things I want to say without being challenged in any way by other opinions" thread.

I see the confusion.

Totally open to being challenged, you seem surprised I posted something I knew would be unpopular

No, I'm surprised that you posted an unpopular opinion then seemed to get all pissy when people tried to engage you in a discussion about it as they didn't agree...

Eh? He's not said he's not open to be challenged or said that your opinion is incorrect. He is saying he expected people not to agree. Quite a leap/extrapolation to then suggest he does not want to be challenged and is shutting down said challenge

So let me get this straight....

He posted an an opinion that he knew would be challenged yet when challenged, mockingly pointed out that, that's why he put it here instead of doing what forums exist for an discussing said opinion and I'm the bellend for assuming he didn't want to be challenged on it?

Duuuude relax, it's Friday, no one has called you a bellend, Stadt has not mocked you, has not said he does not want to discuss his opinion or be challenged on it. He just said he expected people not to agree with it. Don't read too much into things, chill.

Alright calm down. @Stadt is a top poster and I didn't think he was particularly getting pissy. Think he was just having a laugh at how quickly we jumped in with the "mate come on" posts.

Lets all have a hug eh.

Maybe it's heresy for a Leicester supporter to think this but Walkers crisps are boring. Not bad, not unpleasant, just dull. I can't think of any situation where I'd be putting together a meal deal or getting a big multipack and think "ooh you know what I really fancy? Some Walkers".

On the whole I'd probably agree except for Cheese and onion Walkers which are absolute god tier

depends "which" walkers you mean....   I do love a Squares Crisp and they are manufactured by Walkers.

although weirdly....the blue packs of squares are salt and vinegar.... rather than cheese and onion....

why do they have different colours for the same brand?

Walkers sweet chilli sensations make the above statement null and void imho

Sensations I'm all for, same goes for many of the extended Walkers family - I'm on about your rank and file, bog-standard Walkers here

I'd agree esp when there are Salt n Vinegar McCoys about. A 6 pack of those now £2.25, 100% inflation from a year or so ago

At last we're talking about things that matter.

What WOULD be your go to? I can see why a multipack wouldn't inspire, but isn't that because they only have the boring flavours in?

I grew up believing that a pack of Roast Chicken Walkers was one of the finest treats known to man, and I'm delighted that with no prompting from me that my young daughter feels the same

Trouble with Roast Chicken Walkers (and Smokey Bacon for that matter), is that you've still got the taste in your mouth for several hours after consumption. Just one tiny burp and everyone is running for cover.

Just the best crisp brand on the UK market and unfortunately I won’t be agreeing.

Whilst I’m a big fan of a Tory crisp from a garden centre as a treat, ultimately £1.50 for a 6 pack of smoky bacon? Can’t be beaten

That's a negative?

I just want to be transported back to South Yorkshire in 1993 when a six pack of unknown brand meat flavours multi pack was 29p from Netto

Totally agree. Unfortunately the corporate world has taken over the snack market, and things ain't what they used to be. Not a big fan of the "kettle" crisps that compete, either.  Far prefer the Tuc/Cheddars biscuit options.

Tastes great when you're actually eating them. But the aftertaste was too overpowering. Didn't matter what I had to eat later in the day all I could still taste was Walkers Roast Chicken flavour crisps.

Bit ponsey though?
