At last we're talking about things that matter.

What WOULD be your go to? I can see why a multipack wouldn't inspire, but isn't that because they only have the boring flavours in?

I grew up believing that a pack of Roast Chicken Walkers was one of the finest treats known to man, and I'm delighted that with no prompting from me that my young daughter feels the same

I'm not sure I have a go to as such - I like to operate on instinct. For the purposes of this discussion I'm also calling things like Doritos, Pringles, Wotsits etc. crisps even though I know in my heart they technically aren't. I think if I had to go out and get a meal deal today I'd be picking up some beef Hula Hoops.

I saw a 'field test' carried out on a tv show once where folk were asked to say what flavour a crisp was. Obviously, they were not offered in their packets, but in non descript bowls.

Most people guessed wrong.

Me and some mates did a similar 'test' amongst ourselves and again, we were mostly wrong.

It would appear the packet (huge clue) and expectation played a big part in accepting a flavour.

When I was a wee lad my mates dad worked at Walkers.

Endless bags, new flavours the works.  Gorged ourselves on Walkers.  I think we went feral on toasted cheese flavour samples once.

Never really been a fan since.  Much prefer Tory crisps as someone so eloquently described them earlier.  The Manomasa Manchego and green olive tortilla chips are vastly superior to any Walkers.

Definitely one for the unpopular opinions thread I feel.

One thing that Walkers have always got spot on is the thickness and amount of crunch. Plus the right amount of flavouring added.

I dislike kettle chips because they are too hard and crunchy. McCoys are nice but can be a bit too thick. And the cheapo stuff that you buy can often be too thin or have very little flavouring on them. Or occasionally too much flavouring.

For crisp sarnies Walkers are the best. Cheese & Onion crisp sandwich with lashings of Salad Cream is amazing.

Sod nuclear fusion and all that stuff, this is proper science.

My first reaction was, well I'D be able to tell, because I'm a snacks genius, but then I started thinking about all those times I've grabbed a handful of crisps from a bowl that's part of a low aspiration family occasion buffet, been unsure of what they were only to discover they were a supposedly very familiar flavour, or I thought they were one thing and they turned out to be another.

There's a lot of things we don't understand but I think this has got to be a priority area for research

Anyone choosing ready salted is a wrongun.

Special offer: Buy a 12 pack of ready salted and get your hard drive checked for free

Right, some may agree with this.

Poppadoms with chutneys should be provided free of charge whenever you order a main course in an Indian restaurant. They can add a couple of quid to the cost of the main course.

Maybe it's heresy for a Leicester supporter to think this but Walkers crisps are boring. Not bad, not unpleasant, just dull. I can't think of any situation where I'd be putting together a meal deal or getting a big multipack and think "ooh you know what I really fancy? Some Walkers".

Initially I thought this post was scandalous. However, reading through the responses, I was a bit hasty. As much as I like Walkers, and they are the best standard crisps. Any other makes are too thin or hard, and the flavours are poor. The kettle things are way too hard.

But, if I was selecting with my meal deal, I'm going McCoys flame grilled steak or Hula Hoops.

My go-to snack though would be cheese puffs. Proper ones, not like Wotsits. Can happily demolish a family bag of those in minutes.

Salad cream on a crisp sandwich sounds like pervert behaviour to me

Nothing wrong with a little perversion in your sarnie.

Try it, you might like it.

I'm sure this used to be the case didn't it. You're right that they've all stopped now though.

That's a solid choice that I can respect

I really like ready salted. And Hula Hoops (plain or beef).

Love Wotsits and Scampi Fries.

Ready salted and kettle chips getting an unfair battering in this thread.

I don't mind other flavours but I'll always go back to ready salted at some point.
