Don't think either of what we've written is unpopular really.

But you're spot on; Nottingham has decent transport links and Birmingham is getting easier. But fundamentally, it shouldn't be anywhere near challenging to get around cities or between cities as it is for people without a car

Especially when you then look at other countries in Western Europe and east Asia.

I'm not a fan of dogs, even worse are "those" owners who think it's ok for their dog to run around and go upto random people, and then them saying in a rather unimpressed tone - "he's harmless and won't bite ya"

Not sure if it's the dog or "that" owner I dislike more....

I didn’t grow up around dogs, or particularly know how to act around them. I find the worst thing is the phrase “he doesn’t normally do that”. No, that’s because he’s used to interacting with humans who don’t back off at the first glance of a set of sharp gnashers moving toward their nuts. If he then looks at me strangely it’s not because I’m some sort of threat and you shouldn’t be trusting his judgment like he’s some sort of clairvoyant.

I was gonna say, I lived in Nottingham for what felt like the entirety of the time the tramlines were being built then moved away about 6 months after they went live, so never really got to fully benefit from them. Whenever I do go back though we'll park near my old house in the meadows and catch the tram into town. They seem pretty regular and decent to be fair.

A friend of mine recently moved near to Nottingham, and not a week goes by without him somehow mentioning about how easy it is to get around compared to Leicester/Coventry etc

Insurance claim?

It's actually become a fairly family friendly area. I genuinely didn't witness any trouble and barely heard of any in the 5 years I lived there. I think it helped that they were knocking down a tonne of derelict flats around the time I moved there haha.

Luckily for me I'd never been aware of it's reputation before I moved there otherwise I'd never have even considered it lol

My nephew has been mugged twice on his way home to W.Bridgford. Not sure I’ve ever heard it described as family friendly before lol

Ahh sorry to hear that, I've been fortunate to never be in that position. To happen twice is rotten luck.

I can't even imagine where he would have been walking from or through to get to West Bridgford unless he had been to Meadows itself. Otherwise from Town you wouldn't go near it.

There's a block of flats that looks to have some wrong'uns in, but there's 3 or 4 different ways you can walk to W Bridgford and 2 of them I used to walk regular. I barely ever saw another person tbh haha. I lived with about 8 different people over my time there as well and never heard any of them having issues.

Hell, I even accidentally left our front door open while I went to a gig at Rock City and got a very annoyed text message from my housemate, but nothing had been taken :D

Absolutely hate the modern system of ordering and waiting at McDonalds. Even Argos stopped the get ticket and hang around system years ago.

Self-service checkout at supermarket is a ritual humiliation as every item has some issue; human dignity is stripped away; you are made to feel small, a mass man, a cog in a machine, reduced to pure consumer.

What do you hate about it? Genuinely interested because I personally think it’s great - in fact now I can order on my phone whilst waking there, press the button to say I’m there at the earliest point it lets me and then have to wait not very long/take a seat and they bring it is far more preferable to the crowding at the till trying to look at the menu above as it used to be, then a valueless human interaction that has more potential downside than upside, followed by more crowding at the toll as they tried to get orders out and take new ones.

Their major issue is still the crowding as you wait for it but at least it doesn’t stop anyone else doing anything & the delivery pick ups also crowding (but I think they’re slowly solving this where they have space and giving them a different pick up point).

Agreed. It's much better and quicker than queueing up at the tills like we used to.

Get them to bring it to your car if you're really feeling idle too.

But you get to say you used your own bags while pocketing a free one each trip to One Stop now. Totally worth it.

I guess it's just horses for courses.

Going in, using those crappy screens to pick what I want (or the app as you say), then standing in a crowd of randoms, while we all watch about 20 kids standing around on the other side of the desk, seemingly with nothing to do unless a deliveroo order comes in.... The whole thing is so emotionless, so lacking in humanity, your entire being in that moment distilled into being a faceless number in a crowd.

Much prefer to queue and then interact with somebody, however briefly and mundanely.

Most branches still have a cash till open if you really want to do that. Same with KFC.

Touching nasty,  never cleaned screens is why i dislike them.

I prefer interacting with a  human but if i had an app to order i might just do it on my phone.

Not sure how unpopular this will be or not, but:

Normally I’m patriotic by nature when it comes to big international sporting events. British curlers competing? C’mon Britain, get them stones right in there.

But this Rugby World Cup has me cold in terms of the England team. I don’t have any affinity toward them at all. I haven’t ever since Eddie Jones was installed as head coach. (I know he isn’t anymore but still.) They come across as arrogant, entitled. I’d even go so far as to say that I actively don’t want them to win and I’m annoyed for everyone else that they’ve been granted such an easy draw.

If you're well up for the British Curling team, maybe you'd feel more of an affinity to Scotland, rather than England? lol

That "british" curling team, mens and womens, has been exclusively Scottish forever!

Not that there's owt wrong with that.

I’d still be supporting the Scottish curling team over the English rugby union team.

Although that would be an interesting match, granted.

I've lived in w.bridgford for nearly 10 years, and most of the muggings were done by myself for the right reasons, your nephew must look like a right tit, cus I only mug tits.

I too believe rum and vodka to be ideal breakfast milk replacements.

You basically just called @Dr The Singh a straight up pussy. Vodka and rum? What is this, a nunnery?

It's methylated spirits or nothing for the Singh.

He's got a day full of mugging tits to get through.

Every built up area should have a ULEZ

Seems quite popular!

My opinion is that it is a poor tax which isn't proven to work and is massively unequitable.
