I disagree. I find my attention wandering and start looking at my phone unless my own team is involved. And even then its 50/50 lol

My post was made during the friendly meltdown thread (I had been thinking it for a while, though) but I think you can appreciate the whole game more when you aren't too involved.

Same, I'll probably watch significantly more Premier League games this season as won't be sulking as much.

Can someone please explain this to my Mrs?

She thinks I'm the only one.

"Leicester aren't playing, so why do you need to watch it?"

"It's the Champions League final, kind of a big game. Anyway, you fvcking hate it when Leicester are on, even the dog leaves the room"

True story lol

If it’s decent. Far too often football matches are just plain dull unless you have an iron in the fire. I even switch off during highlights half the time.

The trick is to never truly be neutral.

I can form an opinion that I'll die for in about half a second with extreme prejudice. Half the football clubs in the world I hate for arbitrary reasons. I never really watch a game as a genuine neutral, one team has always got a player I like or hate or fans that are scumbags or an owner that's a nazi or something.

Absolute worst case scenario it'll boil down to who has the better kit if I'm feeling especially primary school.

But in either instance you always pick someone to win and try your best to get in to it.

All of the fun of having a vested interest but without the agonising suffering of being a real actual fan. Can just switch off at 90 minutes if they lose and go "ah fvck it whatever."

Just like our plastic Leicester "fans" in ThE sAfEhOuSe making pass the biscuit jokes and being condescending to actual supporters because they don't really feel a thing when Leicester lose. Great stuff.

Way to call 'em out, Finn! :D

I'll be honest, having been there myself (Safehouse that is), I'm thinking that hopefully there's a middle ground between feeling nothing at all when City lose and having such a negative outpouring of emotion regarding it that it fvcks up your mental (or even physical) health - or worse, someone else's.

Of course, most of the venting here is going to just be folks pissed off temporarily before they get balanced again, but not necessarily all and perhaps it isn't the best coping mechanism for everyone's health. That's coming from a place of concern for fellow fans, not condescension.

Revelling in the misery of others is the best part of football.

Ok second best after winning the title.

I'd be angry walking around with those bags.

Surely nobody has enjoyed Crystal Palace vs Everton on a dreary Sunday afternoon in late October.

It's easy - now I have Finners' tips.

All I have to do is remember the golden hazy days sharing crystal meth with the late Prince Phillip and I now have an in on who I want to win the game - the Scousers, because I loved listening to the theme tune from Z Cars when I was stoned.

I want Barnes and Tielemans to flop spectacularly at their new clubs.

Maddison to a lesser extent but would still be funny.

Maddison more than the other two for me

Jeez. Imagine getting booed off by your own fans in July.... lol

Mind you, if we play crap against Cov, we might be less than a fortnight behind them.....

Saying boooo is one thing, but feeling the need to emphasis your disappointment by exclaiming “fvcking boooo” is pure gold lol

I can't watch football if it isn't Leicester (or England in a tournament). I find modern football incredibly boring. Every team either passes to death or defends 11 men behind the ball. Football now is slow and boring. Many praised the world cup: I thought it was rubbish apart from the final.
