I’d just like to say that it wasn’t me.

I'll tell you exactly who you are - your name is Martin Dwyer and you're Entertainments Officer for Warwick University.

If a beer tastes nice and refreshing, I really am not bothered about the last millimetre of beer in the pint. In fact I'm not obsessed either with the British pint measurement. Quite happy with a bottle that "only" contains a fifth or a third of a litre. So long as it tastes nice and not too many chemicals added...love the German and Belgian beers.

I love a pint but there is something nicely sophisticated about a two thirds glass of beer depending on the drinking vessel.

I'd agree, except for watching films in an Everyman cinema. Sofas, blankets, booze served at your seat. Lovely.

Also eye-wateringly expensive so keeps the plebs away. Even lovelier.

Multiplex cinemas are gross, horrible places. Bring back the old cinemas

Yeah, but going to one built into the eighth, ninth and tenth floors of a building can be pretty damn cool in of itself.

I like cinemas and the staff are usually all nice people. My local Odeon is a lovely little place, surrounded by bars and eateries. And the screens and audio is nice and modern, unlike my local Cineworld which is getting run down.

It's 90% of the plebs who go and watch films that ruin them. Loud, often obnoxious people who can't go a couple of hours without stuffing their face with food, or making inane comments to the people they're with during the film. The ones who constantly get up to use the toilet 5 times a film, or put their feet up over the back of the seats in front. Or keep checking their phones distracting everyone behind them with the bright screen.

That’s a convoluted way to go about agreeing with me lol

It is rather depressing that a simple visit to the cinema means rubbing shoulders with thickos that just don't know how to behave

For the most part sci fi is a progressive genre and fantasy is reactionary. Lord of the Rings is so reactionary that it approaches fascism.

Tolkien was quite conservative and a bit of a nimby for sure, but plenty of opposite examples though. Isn’t science fiction writer Ayn Rand the literary icon of American Conservatism and neo-liberalism for example?

I've stopped going for this exact reason, although I'd differentiate thick from ill mannered and inconsiderate.  Perhaps a combination of the 'me me me' society and our constant need for stimulation but people seem incapable of keeping their gobs shut and their phones off for two or so hours straight.

Plus, and I recognise I'm being very petty, the constant rustle, crunch and slurp of people eating and drinking also gets on my nerves.

Although I am conscious that wanting an empty cinema screen just to myself also makes me part of "the 'me me me' society:D

Absolute rot.  If people didn't look at their phones or talk then I'd be more than happy to share a screen with them 😃 it's nothing more than ill mannered oafery to do so in a cinema, particularly when you are reminded not to do so before the bloody film starts.

The eating and slurping I can live with because I am a magnanimous and generous individual with a strong focus on the needs of society as a whole.

Nah, I'm happy with audience figures of 1. The same for train travel, flights, airport lounges, football matches and gigs. I'm also of the belief that phone in shows would be improved if they only sought out my opinion or had me on as the only guest. And don't get me started on restaurants and pubs.

I suppose my general point is people are often very inconsiderate.  Whether it be their kids running riot, shouting into their phone on a train or whatever it may be.  And I don't think it's got anything to do with intelligence either.  People just don't seem to give a sh1t about how their public behaviour impacts others.

Not everyone, of course, there are plenty of people who aren't like that.  It may be that I am getting old and grumpy but there seems to be more anti-social behaviour generally and less consideration towards others.  There is every chance it's always been that way but I just notice it more now.

I went to my local Cineworld on Saturday for probably the first time in about four years.

Best part of £40 for two tickets. I'm surprised anyone can afford to go to the cinema.
