I know there's a sentimental attachment to 4-4-2, but it's time to face new realities.

80% on here think we haven't had the personnel for 4-4-2 since Kante left.

15% think we haven't had the personnel for 4-4-2 since Drinkwater left.

The other 5% are ... independent thinkers.  Or the manager.

@KingsX remember how we all crucified Claudio for rightfully trying to change our style of play?

Short-sighted, but I don't deny that there was something in the idea that it was his time to go...I'd be interested to see where we would be now, if we'd stuck with him and avoided the drop.

no one said anything about a 10 year contract that would be just silly and you know what else is silly judging the man after 6 games.

Not six games though is it

The results were too extreme to ignore.  And we've learned that CR had lost connection with not only the team, but the organization.  The owners must have known that, and if so, their "shocking" decision was closer to a no-brainer.

Very true, people seem to forget, the back end of last season was poor too including a 1-6 defeat at home.

Proper 6 pointer this and first of many relegation head to heads for us this year

if we lose or drop points to these then we are proper facing the drop

this is Shakys biggest game of his managerial career

lose and he might be sacked

Don't disagree with that take. Things were collapsing. Still have a lot of questions left unanswered about that whole situation; not sure that we'll ever get a really clear picture of how it unraveled.

Yeah one of the most tactically inept performances I have ever witnessed ! Thanks Shakes

Completely disagree.  Biggest mistake they did.  Sacking Ranieri way too early.  I still believe he would have pulled it off and we'd be in better shape now.  The owners were certainly much more patient with Pearson, which is why I was befuddled by their decision. Now we'll find out how big of a mistake it may have been, if Shakey doesn't pull off a series of wins among the lower teams.

I'll be very disappointed if we lose this game, im half expecting us to win it if i am honest. But i am very sure that a resounding defeat will not look good for shakey.. I am sure i remember reading that our owners were big fans of Ancelotti and  we were sniffing around him a while back.. he currently has no Job, of course so i i cant help but think the Owners would be looking for an excuse to approach him...

Do you think that he would agree to come here, though? What a step down that would be.

He has had a history of liking small teams.  He made Parma a powerhouse in serie A. I suspect he'd probably entertain the idea.  He loves the Prem.

We could certainly do far worse with an appointment.

If they are big fans of his I'd encourage them to act now sack him and the clown he has number 2

We lose and he has to go.... I really feel for him because we should never have given him the job.... I really like Craig and think he’s a fantastic coach, and my preferred option would be to ask him to step down back to his old number two.... but I can’t see him accepting that, but unfortunately he is too green in terms of managing a team for the premier league. I can’t see us picking anything up in this game, we’re usually poor against this lot and I can see things going horrible wrong...

Claudio was wrong to change our style of play, that's why he was crucified.

The first mistake was not bringing in the right players so we could continue to play 4-4-2. But turning to negative, slow football as a reaction is never acceptable, it got Claudio sacked and it will get Shakey sacked.

I don't think the club were wrong to sack Ranieri. The only signs were that we'd gone completely to pot and there was little hope of a revival. Relegation was a serious possibility, all the confidence and fight had gone (aside from Champions League games). It was far from all Ranieri's fault, and other people should have gone too, and I still haven't fully forgiven the players for letting him and the club down (and I never will). But we had to make a change.

Replacing him long term with Shakespeare was the massive mistake.

Anyway, back to tomorrow's game. This really is one of those games where it's a sackable offence to lose. We've started badly, we're playing badly, and we're up against a team who have really struggled so far.

I almost feel surely we can't lose to these, Shakespeare will keep clinging onto his job for a while with the odd adequate result or ok run to keep our heads above water.

But if we lose, IF we lose, he's in serious trouble.

Back to tomorrow’s game but then spend the entire post discussing what everyone above has? lollol
