Mahrez isn't much of a drilbbler -ha

Watched the goal against Chelsea dec 15 again and it was just the same lobbed  ball from Allbrighton as against Udders.Different technique same result.

PL player of the year !

Hazard is the most talented player in the league, he’s a lot quicker than Riyad too which makes him more dangerous.

The thing about Riyads first touch is that he often takes it after the ball has bounced rather than kill it mid air. It’s a much tougher skill to master but it allows him to use the pace of the pass to change direction quicker or create himself some space.

Another thing he does, which is top drawer, is when he’s carrying the ball, he doesn’t ‘set up’ for a shot. He just hits it mid stride which doesn’t give the keeper that split second to set himself and save the shot.

He’s pure class.

Seriously? A gentle pass to him under no pressure? That’s good but Mahrez could do that if he was afforded so much space. It’s a far less pressurised environment, playing for Barca in Spain. Mahrez has to pluck awkward passes out of the sky whilst marked by up to 3 men

Pure showboating with litterally no purpose. Great skill mind you but if it's the only thing you thought of to compare both of them, you know neither what's about Riyad nor what's about Neymar.

Riyad has the best first touch I’ve ever seen, by far the best in the prem, I can’t think of anyone even close. Whether or not he is better than Neymar or Messi, I really can’t say. I don’t/haven’t watched enough of them but I can’t comprehend what better even looks like tbh. Is it even possible to be better than perfect?

If this impresses you then I reckon you must be about 12-14ish

Sorry for being able to enjoy one of the best players on the planet showing a few skills. If it doesn’t impress you then you must be miserable and not enjoying watching a player do a football trick doesn’t make you cool.

I have a tip for you - avoid these threads, it tends to keep you sane.

I've enjoyed my footy long enough to know that this piece of skill was neither "unbelievable" nor from "another planet"  :scarf:

you will say its because his my countryman*

but i'll say it anyway *

Mahrez is nowhere near half the level of  Messi Neymar *

but i agree with Finnegan on this*

Nobody has a better first touch than Riyad *

and that clip posted for Neymar shows beautiful touch but not a good example of a great first touch he can do much better than that

the ball went away from him and if a defender was close he could have taken that ball

further evidence to back up my point, this is a couple of years old, so this still isn’t Neymars best, but some of the first touches especially from 1:08 onwards eclipse what Mahrez is capable of, regardless of the player passing it to them the player still has to bring the ball down and while Mahrez may well be up there, he isn’t the best in the world.

One thing with Riyad (and a trait of many great players like Ronaldo, Messi, Beckham, Zidane, Scholes etc) is that he is very original with his skills, moves and the way he strikes a ball. He doesn't really copy anyone and has a very unique style from his physique to the way he crisply deals with a football.

Does novel things in games that fans would never expect - like when he ducked under the ball vs Man Utd before assisting Vardy. He was probably the only man in the stadium who knew what he was going to do when that ball dropped out of the sky.

He also seems to strike the ball differently to many. In 15/16 he probably showed the range of his talent. Even the first goal he scored in the game vs Swansea at home was class - he put top spin on the ball so it skidded off the surface, straight in to the net as we marched towards the title. Not to mention the skills in the Chelsea and Stoke games at home earlier that season.

Even when he first arrived in the championship days, the class and speed of his feet was obvious. He was playing exquisite through balls to Vardy then as well.

Feel genuinely lucky to see have some of the skills and trickery he does on a regular basis at the KP - absolute magician and my favourite player of all time.

Best first touch in the Prem since Berbatov.

Most skilful right now? It depends on what you are classing that as. Tricks? All round ability?

If you class it as control of the ball then he is EASILY in the same bracket as Ozil, KDB and Hazard.

He does lose it alot because he attempts alot of dribbles, certainly more than KDB and Ozil. But that shouldn't really detract from his ability on the ball, to manipulate it and his opponents.

He has feints and trickery to go past players like nobody else can. But KDB, Ozil and Hazard can do things that Mahrez can't too because they all have unique styles and strengths...

Mahrez - Feints, First Touch

Ozil - Through balls, Controls tempo

KDB - Passing, Shooting

Hazard - Dribbling, Acceleration

It is a damn sight harder to show world class skills on a consistent basis playing for Leicester than Barca, so it is a bit tough to make a like-for-like comparison. It is a good job Riyad is fantastic at bringing down hopeful balls from distance, cos that is about all he gets to work with in some games.

Riyad's showreel is certainly as good as anything in the PL, and he really can't be dismissed as a one season wonder any more. As with Kante, Riyad will only be fully appreciated when he plays for a fashionable club.

You will find way more evidence of Neymar having a better first touch on YouTube. Take off your blue tinted specs and realise that however good Riyad is at bringing the ball down Neymar is better.

He's really not. Riyads first touch is like nothing I've ever seen. Even that video of Neymar you've linked, he shows a worse first touch than riyad. Riyad will take down a long hoof and kill it right at his toes in shit weather once a week. Something that defies all sense.

That neymar first touch you linked, if a defender is close he takes that away, controlling out in front of him. No defender is ever having the ball off Riyads first touch short of standing right behind him and judo throwing him out of the way once he's taken his touch.
