  1. 1. Where do you most enjoy a drink pre/post match?

Off the train. Parcel Yard although the lager choice gets worse by the month.

Barley mow if not full of away. Locker room then either rutland and derby if time to walk that way or in the back of kings. Pick up a pint drink walk out front.

Really struggled to find somewhere we are happy to sit in for a few hours since the parcel yard swapped beers and prices went up and the swam closed.

Used to like the peel but it's not the same nowdays.

i cant believe the New Road Inn isnt on the list.

Great pre/post match curries.

Used to be in there and the one next door (The Donkey ?) all the time ...   quite a crowd of us ..  in at opening time then back after the match.  Great atmosphere.   Last time I went in was one saturday night with a couple of mates to see a lad called Anthony Joshua fight ...   hardly anyone else was watching it ...   been following him for a while ...   always looked like he had potential ... :).    Drink nearer home now as pushed my luck a bit with drink driving ...

The Black Horse in Braunstone Gate is a very nice quiet pub with good beer and not dominated by megascreen TV and/or bleeping amusement machines.

The Google Reviews tell you what sort of pub it is.

"Nice little pub with a range of Everards ales."

"Great cosy good old fashion pub with decent drinks"

"Nice pub but Landlord (?) is rude and comments on your drink choices if they don't meet his approval."

"Just as a pub should be, well kept real ale, good company and excellent bar staff"

"Best 'proper' pub in Leicester - bar none!"

"Rude Barman, ridiculed me on my choice of drink and then asked if i stamped my foot would my tiara fall off."  :D:D:D

Just my sort of place - I like witty bar staff...

Matchdays aren't the same since the Swan closed down. The Criterion is alright but abit "meh".

The Rutland & Derby is a decent pub but not really a pre match one. The Globe is decent but quite a trek, same with Duffy's.

Brickies is crap in my experience. Took a good half hour to get served last time.

It is a good pub. Always been really quiet whenever I have been in, Brauny Gate does seems to be on the slide a tad now.

Big time Brauny Gate is on the slide. Such a shame considering you had O Bar, Looking Glass and Loaf as well there a few years back. I went to West End Brewery when it first opened and thought it was crap. It's improved a lot since.

That's the owner, rather than the landlord? Not the same person.

That's why I put "owner/landlord" as I wasn't sure of his role within the pub...

Ah, fair enough. I think there was interest in the pub too and the guys behind The Font came very close to taking it on, but in the end the cash just proved too much for any interested parties.

Yeah I think his daughter had said that some of the people who worked in it also thought about taking it on but obviously didn't in the end, only used it a couple of times but seemed decent pub at the time,..

Donkey for me when I’m up.

Enjoy popping in the Kings Head pre-match, get some good chats with home & away fans. Post match they don't seem to always show the live game (no BT?) so I have a quick pint there and then look elsewhere, tried Bricklayers Arms, Barley Mow (was about the only City fan amongst a load of Stoke fans last season - one song wonders who spent the duration singing Delilah and banging the ceiling whilst shouting at me that we were "lucky" today!

Looking for a better post match alternative to be honest, somewhere with the live game on, totty on tap and a range of bar snacks that don't look like they've been run over by a steamroller would be nice (the Bricklayers selection of what looked like Flat-breads were supposed to be cobs apparently!) Walk up to the Clarendon sometimes but would rather find somewhere not quite so far out.

Soar Point for me now...basically cos it's near where I park. Plus you get free beer after a while using their rewards card.

Used to be the Peel until the landlady threatened to chuck half the pub out for singing before the Sevilla game last season. Gone down hill since she took over IMO

Why does that not surprise me...

A good football pub is one that is still open!   So many good ones have closed, or changed out of all recognition.

In the 70's, the Tavern, Long Stop and Saracens were good football pubs.  In the early 80's, the Snooty Fox was the place.   In the late 80's, the Nags Head was the main 'lads' pub.   The Royal Standard has been there through it all.   Lots of other decents ones, too numerous to mention.

These days ... If I come over on the train, prematch pubs are usually Parcel Yard, Hind or The Kings.

Anywhere will do after the match ... although depends on the mood,

The Black Horse is really struggling.

I used to bloody love Loaf and O Bar on a Friday night in the summer. West End Brewery is decent, though.

It's a shame Del Monte / Leicester students seem appalling at drinking.
