“After the saving the club we tried to play for seventh place in the table, and with different problems we didn’t succeed. I have no regrets about this.

“Perhaps we weren’t ready for this.

“For the next season we have to strengthen the team and also in our character and desire. We must be consistent.”

Hmm. Always easier to say in hindsight, eh Claude? I really want to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, and I do strongly believe that some of the players let him and the club down, and should be moved on, but I can't help but wonder if he wasn't really planning for City to play in Europe next season. Where's the ambition?

Link?

Also probably means the players weren't ready for the style change rather than ready for Europe.

Unbelievable that he would come out with this crap about not being ready for Europe, especially as we played in the Champions League a couple of seasons ago, and reached the quarters.

"saving the club" is a bit of a stretch, I know we were pretty awful under Shakey but we had quite a tough start. Think we'd have been fine.

i'm wondering if some of this interview has been lost in translation.

It's  a combination of translation/correct choice of words and phrases and the Merc click baiting. Plenty of People will read into it what they want to see rather that look at it objectively.

All we had to do is beat Newcastle at home then beat Burnley and we’d been clear of them

Imo we werent ready our squad isn't strong enough for europe and the premiership. I agree with puel and was quite pleased that we didn't qualify. The amount of games would of taken it's toll on the squad - I certainly think it will with burnley.

Do you honestly believe we are ready for Europe, I think we have dodged a bullet not finishing 7th. We would start what mid July with something like 9 1st teamers on WC duty no summer break to speak of & straight into a new season our squad isn't strong enough as proved the last few weeks when hit by injury & suspensions.

I don't think Burnley will be anywhere near as strong as they were this season like us they aren't big enough to cope just yet.

What Puel has done last few months is look at everyone in & around the first team, he knows whats required to take us forward & make us stronger, I actually think it was good management once 7th was gone to experiment after all finish 8th might as well finish 10th for the sake of 4m you've given everyone a go & those that haven't performed can't grumble when / if he shows them the door.

Prefer this Type of thinking...

It's done and dusted, last season is gone, if he's staying I want him talking about his future plans, not lementing about last season.

Blame the Merc for asking the questions.

A good balanced assessment of where we're at.

I heard he was wildly misquoted

Apparently he said "we're not ready to drop down to the Europa. We're a champions league team really. Do you really expect Wes and Simpson to feck about in the Europa league? We'd rather get relegated. Not going to mess about with Europe until the season after next. In the meantime i'm going to stick Hamza on at RB for jokes. Qualiteeeeeeee"
