I'm not Gray's biggest fan but we have to be honest that in the 2 and a half seasons he's been here he's been somewhat overshadowed by someone else in his preferred position and has also had his development hindered by limited game time and poor management. Give him a bit of freedom and time and he could be brilliant for us. I can't say I know much about a Grealish as I don't watch a Championship football. He got compared with Maddison a lot yet when you look at his stats they're vastly inferior. Personally I think we made the right choice in Maddison. Beware also that if Grealish signs for Spurs, with 5 days left of the window, he'd be purely a panic buy as they've signed nobody so far. Obviously if he did go to Spurs the media would cream over him like they did Alli, who I don't rate either. Obviously this is all just opinions. Can't be arsed to get into a row about it it's too bloody hot.

rachhere Posted 4 August 2018 Posted 4 August 2018 After dismissing this earlier, it is very odd that he's been left out the team again...

Don't know why you'd dismiss it tbh or why you'd think it's odd he's been left out. It's struck me as very clear from fairly early last year that Puel doesn't like him. He gave him a go early doors then went looking for alternatives. I don't think he likes his attitude and work rate, would be my guess. He's technically better than Diabate in every way but Diabate works much harder which is obviously a quality Puel demands. I can well see Puel selling Gray. 1

He's our only winger in pre-season who has really done anything profitable. Albrighton is no where near his previous level, Diabate seems to be regressing and of course we lost one fairly significant player... So if he isn't going and isn't injured then it seems strange not to at least have him on the bench, and if they are letting him go, that seems a strange decision also. 1

I'm not making any judgement on his ability, I'm saying it appeared last season that Puel didn't like him.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 4 August 2018 Posted 4 August 2018 Quote Gray just blows too hot and cold for my liking. I thought he would be a great addition, but he doesn't seem to learn, or improve. 1

Pete Campbell Posted 5 August 2018 Posted 5 August 2018 Hope all is well with Demarai. Yesterday showed me that we look better with him in the side.

Turned 22 a few weeks a go and has all the tools to be a top player. I'm hoping this will be his real breakthrough season and he'll pick up a good bit of the Mahrez slack. Gray, Iheanacho and Maddison could be as good as good as anyone's team three years down the line. 1
ARM1968 Posted 5 August 2018 Posted 5 August 2018 If the lad can apply his ability as much as his attitude then he will go far. He has all the makings of a top quality player. 2

Really think with some application, he will go on to be a really top player 1 2
The Horse's Mouth Posted 5 August 2018 Posted 5 August 2018 this is a make or break season for him, looking like we arent bringing in a star winger so now's his time to stamp himself into the team 1

He's had chances and now Riyad has gone he needs to assert himself. Personally hope he rises to it as he has all the attributes of being a fantastic winger. I think the pressure of starting in place of Albrighton as was most often, is that he would have had to match the work rate he offers us, when in reality he would ideally be given the freedom that Mahrez had. 1
cropstonfox Posted 5 August 2018 Posted 5 August 2018 Albrighton is far superior and it is up to Gray to prove otherwise . If we could get 2 full games in a row out of Gray then would be a first.

Maybe in terms of effort, professionalism and crossing. But Gray is a far more dynamic player with the ability to beat people and pull defences apart. He needs to be really well man-managed and probably needs to get his head out of his arse, but he has the potential to be a far better and more effective player than Albrighton. Wymsey Posted 5 August 2018 Posted 5 August 2018 Like with Musa, his end-product can let him down. But, he has shown, albeit rarely, that he can score very good individual goals (see Man United away). The problem with him is that he's very hit-and-miss. 1

Alan Birchenal once scored one good goal (v Leeds) perhaps Gray could be the new Birch?
