This forum was 90% in favour of sacking puel but a couple of lucky games later and with a change in wind direction our brainless brand of hopeless optimism has resurfaced. Truly amazing. Gone by christmas

Gone by Christmas is far too generous, he will be gone by the end of September. I can't see us starting well and our fans will be going wild regardless of how tough our start is. There's no patience going to be afforded, he's somehow got to get us in the top 6 from the off otherwise he's gone.

My god, how did we go from zero to clown shoes so quickly? Two weeks ago, we were having a low-key excellent window, and now we're talking about when (not if!) Puel gets sacked next season.

There are still several weeks of the window left. We still don't even know for sure what formation we're going to line up in, and the money for Mahrez only came in last week. I love you all, but there's some proper frontier gibberish going on in here.

Not having a Mahrez replacement is a bit worrying but there’s still plenty of time left in the window. It’s also possible that Puel might be using preseason to judge if we even need to sign anyone. He could challenge Diabate and Gray to make the position their own so it will be interesting to see how squad numbers are distributed this season. It’s a risk but Puel has a reputation for giving young players a chance.

I remember in the 15/16 preseason that there was a lot of noise from the club about how they felt it was going to be Riyad’s breakout season given his form and he started that season like a house on fire. Some of the best players we’ve seen in the league in fact took about 6-12 months to really get going such as Pires, Henry, etc.

WTF is wrong with people on this thread? Absolutely unbelievable stupidity continues even after our signings.

Do people seriously think, just because there is no tedious article from The Sun saying we're linked with a player, we're not looking to sign someone?

You only need to go as far back as Two days ago, where pretty much out of the Blue, we'd signed Danny Ward. Not a world beater, of course, but it's happened more than enough times which SHOULD tell people how we mainly conduct our business.

Yes we still need a few faces in, and I'm sure the team are working as hard as they can behind the scenes to make it happen. There is still time. We have have someone close to signing, but our fans continue to trust in only what the media are saying. If they haven't said anything, it obviously means #RudkinOut #TopOut #PuelOut #NFPIn

Jusy chill ffs.

Got to say I’m more worried about our fan base.

We have made 4 excellent signings already, and we have a crop of exciting youth players and players returning from loan to look at.

The squad as is stands is enormous. It’s atleast 8-10 players top heavy. So I’m sure we need to clear a few out before too many more come in.

I support the direction of travel. We’ve tried big money signings and very few have come off. We do appear more measured this summer. We needed a RB - it’s been addressed with a highly rated player who featured at the WC. We needed a new CB - we’ve signed a proven PL player. We needed competition for Kasper - we’ve signed some one who from what I’ve seen from Liverpool fans is highly regarded. We needed a number 10 - we’ve signed one of the hottest young English talents out there.

Mall of the areas fans have been moaning about have been addressed. I’m lost as to what fans expect these days.

People keep talking about not being linked with a Mahrez replacement. I must be looking in different places since we seem to have been “linked” with every winger going.

Its just possible among all this tabloid rubbish we might be trying to get someone in under the radar.

Or Puel may think attack minded full backs/ wing backs will negate the need for an outright replacement and we see signing made to accommodate a slight change in formation. (I’m not suggesting this is the case, but we just don’t know what’s happening).

I do hope we arent going to do an Arsenal TV here and as soon as the team has a bad game have lots of booing and Puel out demo's.

I find it slightly concerning that, having had 2 years to prepare for the sale of Mahrez, we don't appear to have a direct replacement lined up.

There's still 3 weeks left though, so there will be plenty of activity before the end of the window.

All of our transfer windows seem to follow the same pattern- get some good business done early, do sod all for a month then scramble around with everyone else at the end for signings we're desperate for.

Very little info leaking from the club. Ward said in his interview that we've been sorting the deal for a couple days, but the very first hint of news only broke yesterday, after it was basically done. A deal that makes little sense, that no one was expecting. Will we suddenly announce the sale of Maguire and the purchase of Townsend tomorrow? It's that uncertainty creating a general sense of unease.

Because we completed a transfer before it was leaked (which is how it should be done) you think this means we might just sell our best CB?

Get a grip.

Dunno what the worry is. Welbeck is incoming

I've actually thought for a long time he would be perfect as a Shinji replacement

I'm wondering if anyone's thought our Mahrez replacement may have been at the WC. So is sat on his holiday atm. The deal could be done sat waiting for the player to sign.

I mean you can't really blame people for worrying, been 3 seasons since we won the league and we have 2 maybe three players who have joined since then in our starting best 11, i wouldn't say its doom and gloom yet we have a couple of weeks to try and get some players in but the thought of having to rely on Diabete, Gray and Albrighton as wingers is worrying, lets hope we're all wrong and we have someone lined up.

I said it in semi jest, but actually it could be a good move. He'd want to start here though

3-4-1-2?

Maddison

Vardy, Welbeck

Diabate and Gray as options on the bench if we want to switch to 3-4-3 for extra width.

Would need to sign another LWB to compete with Chilwell

Calm down lad! We've fixed the number 10 problem with the hugely talented Maddison.

And what if gets injured and misses half the season?...oh, hang on.

Christ, everyone needs to calm down. We've spent >£60m this summer, only 4/5 clubs have spent more so far, and we're clearly looking to add more to the squad.

Then Iheanacho plays that role. He got similar assists/goals/chances created per 90' than Mahrez last season so it's not too bad at all.

What? Are you crazy? You want us to buy a new number 10 and a new back up number 10?

I have... and I really hope that this is the case. It makes sense.

Oh Jeez - it was merely a throwaway glib, facetious comment given that we've purchased an injured player that won't be able to start the season - and if you really wish to take it that literally, it was incorrect anyway, because he won't be out for half the season either. I absolutely agree that FT needs to mellow out...early onset of forum menopause.
