So he had started both pre season games so far getting the full 90 yesterday finishing off playing at centre back.

 

He was left midfield yesterday and believe he was the same on Saturday. 

 

Do we think he is in Puel plans? Find hard to believe he would get so much game time if he wasn’t? When is his contract up?

 

I also thought he played the majority if not all of last season for Wigan at left back? 

 

Couldnt find excisting thread so my bad if there already is one.

These games were more about fitness than tactics IMO, missing 5 first team players.

Player over 100 games out in Loan now so don't really see the point of another loan.

Hopefully CP is assessing if he thinks he will ever be up to scratch.

Defining season in his career for me.

He's 24 in January so if he does not make the breakthrough this season I think it's safe to say he will not ever be up to this standard.

Think it's now or never for him, Play him or sell him.

We'll probably get a million or so for him which isn't bad at all. That's exactly the sort of transfer that pays for the academy so it makes sense.

Could he be used as a third option at lb in cup games this coming season? I can't imagine Fuchs will play that much of a part unless absolutely necessary, could be a case of getting a year around the senior players to see if he has the minerals to play at this level.

Not sure it's fair on elder to keep him for 2/3 games when he can play every week at a league one/lower end championship club.

Think its probably the last we've seen of him this pre-season which is why he was given the 90 minutes the other day. Can't fault his effort but he seems a bit limited to me, needs to be out on loan rather than being 3rd choice here.

You’d think he’d be sold but he’s been quite good in both the games so far. It does feel like he’s been given a fair chance to make a claim for a squad slot. 

 

Think the same applies to several other players including development squad members.

Comparing him to Chilwell who was 19 and Huddersfield manager Wagner and their fans thought he was absolute quality and cut above the Championship even then.

 

Elder I believe did well at League One Wigan but wasn't a stand out player even though he was 23.

 

On the face of it Elder will have a decent career but will never be our level. I'm sure we'd sell for a reasonable offer.

think he's played left wing just because Gray was the striker, not sure why he doesn't just split Slimani and Leo so they swap over and we always have a proper striker on the pitch but it doesn't really matter

when people are talking about him as a promising kid it is he should be coming towards his prime at that age

Obviously some people have completely forgotten about him or never heard of Callum Elder in the first place and then automatically assume he must be 18/19/20.

 

Prime for him would be around 28/29. Way to go.

I’m not really sure you can right someone of at 24 these days if their not a first team player in the premiership .Jamie Vardy was a none  lague player at 24 and there are numerous other cases  of players not making it until later on in their career . I’m not saying he will make it but saying he should have made it by now at 24 is just silly

no one is saying that we are just saying he's not exactly young
