But the thing that annoys me the most is how much criticism Morgan gets compared to Maguire. Maguire comes out of defence and loses the ball yet as soon as Morgan knocks one ball out of play he is deemed a “donkey”.

Absolutely puzzled by this it just suggests people are not basing it on what is actually happening on the pitch. We all have our inbuilt biases but sometimes it just comes across as totally irrational.

It is time to move on.  Every footballer in the World reaches a point when they simply are no longer good enough.  When their deficiencies are exposed on a weekly basis, is the time this so called lack of respect comes into play. This is life.  We all remember the more recent things we witness. The worst scenario with Wes is if Puel repeats the Dragovic farce by not playing Evans and the 2 new CB’s in the next weeks.

Morgan's sadly past it, seen from a sportive perspective. He'll be 35 next January, it's only natural for the body to lose composure and effectiveness as you get older, you become less speedy, movement becomes more difficult. It's the regular life cycle of a pro footballer. Last season was indicative of things to come. The only thing Morgan can do is in order to minimize damage is to hold it together as good as he can and not risk too much, or else he'll be found out quite quickly. Just this Friday against Manchester United, he tried his best not to do anything stupid, still managed to give the ball away needlessly on several occasions.

Maguire has a different style about him and is likely encouraged to delve further into the opposing half, risking things with possession on our side. He's also nine years younger and more able to compensate for losing possession at the halfway line by running back quickly.

So did Maguire. And this is my point.

I counted Maguire needlessly giving the ball away twice (one time straight from kick off where he just gave the ball to Mata) and Morgan needlessly gave the ball away twice too. I didn't think Morgan was any worse than Maguire on Friday yet when I came to read ratings from LCFC fans, some people were indicating Maguire was a lot better than Morgan.

Was there an official ratings thread?

Not overly indicative of the general consensus when you base your observation on the opinion of a few.

Could well be that these people simply carry that picture of an aging Morgan in their heads, considering a 34-year old centre-back who already didn't perform convincingly last season "past it". He may still be influential and important off the pitch (as one of the people holding the squad together), but during matches, there's little he can offer anymore. As much as the truth hurts, and I'll always cherish the picture of Morgan lifting the Premier League trophy, trust me.

I think people are also more forgiving in Maguire's case, because he feeds them with the type of spectacle they demand. An agile, attacking-minded centre-back crossing the halfway line... What's not to like about it?

Annoys me to see people downing on Morgan, Fuchs and Simpson, these guys gave us our greatest moment and deserve total respect.

Tired of players being called legends.

You can like and praise whomever you want let us like and praise womever we want.

Arthur was a legend though.

Might have been a very different result on Friday had Simpson played.

I also think that the criticism Morgan gets is way over the top.

Simpson would have gone with his head, no doubt about it.

When players show full respect to my club ill respect them. Saying a player is over the hill or past it is not a lack of respect. It's being honest not wanting a player to make a fool of himself.

Yes I'll always remember that glorious side but I support the club not individual players. Yes if someone says Simmo is shite and that's all they have to say its wrong.

But FFS stop treating them like gods. It's a job they got paid and bonuses. Had we not paid them enough to start with do you really think they would have signed for us? I'll tell you its NO.

Absolutely correct. All people have to do is not speak of these players as if they hate them, and all will be well.

You mean the handball?

Also for the second Ricardo was out of position and Shaw crept in unopposed.

It's hindsight of course, but I think if we'd had Simpson in for Amartey and Ricardo on the wing, we might have got something out of the game.

It’s not living in the past to agree that whilst they shouldn’t be starting, they don’t deserve over the top shit they get when we lose.

But ok to dish it out to Armatey, Chilwell and Gray??  Marvellous.

Thank you to the op. This has been a topic that has been bugging me for a long time. The abuse that Morgan gets is horrific. I think people forget that he has led us to titles, Champions League quarter-finals and picked up personal awards in the process.

Having said that, he should be phased out but there is no reason that he can’t be a squad player.
