Can anyone explain to me how this joke of a manager still finds himself getting employed? His latest trick is rooting QPR to the bottom of the Championship table with -11 goal difference after 4 games. He's been an abject failure everywhere he's been for the past 10 years or so!

Not really, he's won a league title and taken Derby from mid-table to a play-off final in that time. His last three years haven't been good.

He is or was regarded as a very good coach and has done very well at certain clubs. He's a joke figure now though, could probably do with being at a high end League One club where he is more out of the spotlight

A year from now and that could be QPR

lol I wouldn't back them to come straight back up. Long shot could have been him ending up back at FC Twente at the start of this season following their relegation

I know a fairly well-known 'football person', in Leicester circles at least, who swears to god that he's a freemason, and that (rather like a certain silver-haired manager who has a habit of befriending chairmen in upper-class establishments, and being appointed partly on that basis) is the reason why he commands such respect in some circles. Certainly if you look at England manager appointments historically (Alf, Joe Mercer etc.) it's not necessarily worked against you.

I'm aware that it sounds like I've been hanging out on David Icke forums, which I haven't, and I'm not sure why such a thing should have a bearing on anything (it's more likely connected with being a highly-rated coach, a fairly solid Boro boss, or his time in Holland) but when you look at his FLC credentials to date, you have to wonder why anyone would think he could do a job at that level. Just seems very out-dated these days.

I do like your reasoning, however Pardew got the Newcastle job to repay gambling debt and got the West Brom job because his best mate was the DoF so not sure he's quite along the same lines...

I am no huge fan of Holloway, but you’d be pissed off if you were him. QPR decided to close up the finances last season and he did an okay job in working with it.

Yeah, Holloway said other day that he was told to get rid of the more experience players (I imagine who are the bigger wages).

In fairness he's got a pretty impossible job … bit like Chris Coleman at Sunderland...… silk purse sow's ear and all that.

Still if the lunatics that run QPR are prepared to pay him a decent wage …. who is the mug ?

The only club he's considered a legend at is FC Twente. Would anyone agree he was a decent manager before the England job or as he always been suspect?

I think he was good at Middlesbrough and Twente, but rubbish at the other clubs, as well as England.

He did a great job at boro tbf, bit of silverware and a European final, think going Wolfsburg really ruined any hope of resurrecting his career, if he'd lasted out at twente he could've maybe been able to have land a prem job. His choice in clubs has been his biggest issue really
