I do think some need to lighten up a little though. Seems the slightest comment on here gets picked up atm. Then made a huge issue. Paki is rightly offensive because it has become a racist term in Britain for all people who originate from south Asia. Hindus from India, Bangladeshis etc etc. Where as calling a fully turkish man a Turk shouldn't really offend any one in my opinion. 7
Max Power Posted 27 August 2018 Posted 27 August 2018 Would rather he play games and be coached by Brendan Rodgers than play the odd u23 game with Beaglehole. When Morgan likely leaves in the summer he'll be primed and ready to roll
mozartfox Posted 27 August 2018 Posted 27 August 2018 SLB. Ludricous. Pay all this money for him only to play on the Scottish Pub League? Someone is having a laugh with Leicester City. He will learn nothing playing at that standard. Keep him here and he can fight for his place. 1
Finn Claw II Posted 27 August 2018 Posted 27 August 2018 He was signed for the future. A loan and game time is better than 5th choice this season. Next season Morgan will leave and possibily Maguire. He’ll get his chance.

We just do not know right now. He has played CL games and performed in a league that 'maybe' on par with Scotland. And why the Fuchs should we pay 13 million for someone to play for Celtic? Am I missing something here? Obviously, if this is being seriously talked about.

He currently appears to be our 5th choice CB so makes sense to send him out on loan to a decent club where he can play competitively and develop further. It's a win win for all parties IMO as long as we insert a recall clause. 1

You could argue that Van Dijk learned a thing or two playing at that standard at the same age as benekovic. 1

Brit was an contentious example from the poster. Let me try one. Why is calling a Turkish man a Turk any different than calling an Australian an Aussie though? Seemed a very strange thing to call highly offensive. If he'd said it's offensive that people don't know his name yet, I could have understood it more even though I still probably don't agree. Edit - If the term Turk has suddenly become an offensive word and I'm just unaware of that fact, I apologise in advance to anyone offended by my response to these posts. So he's left with the U23's Celtic would be far better than that, it makes sense. Oooh you can't say anything positive about Morgan on here. I agree though, we still have Morgan for another season and there is life in the old dog yet despite what the mob thinks. With Maguire, Evans and Soyuncu as well then getting Benkovic some game time when he is going to be 4th or 5th choice here would be beneficial for us and him.
UPinCarolina Posted 27 August 2018 Posted 27 August 2018 Celtic, despite the relative poverty of talent in the SPL, are a great club who Benkovic would certainly benefit from being around.

Yeah it may have been, I am not really focussing on whether the actual term "Turk" is offensive or not but seems odd to define someone purely on their nationality when their given name would be much more appropriate. X I do agree. I've never once called Soyunco 'The Turk'. I just thought the post saying it was highly offensive was over the top tbh. Anyway, I am all for him going on loan to Celtic as I live in Glasgow so might be able to see him and as much as I dislike Rodgers he is a decent coach. X 1

I'm not sure what it is about him, it's just something. I know that's irrational Yeah, it would do Benkovic some good I reckon, as I've posted previously. It looks like there's quite a split in opinion on it here though. Although the Croatian league is higher rated according to the poll referenced on here. Playing in front of an average crowd on 5000 odd doesn't really compare with playing at Celtic Park in front of 60,000 every two weeks. Scottish football is also more similar to ours than Croatian football. I see the argument for him staying to fight for his place but a loan would depend on how far down the list of CB's Puel and the coaches see him. There's also the opportunity to put in a recall clause. 1

The state of Scottish football is pretty dire but as least he would be getting more used to the UK and, as you say, Celtic are a huge club and as an experience it would be good for him. Rodgers also plays out from the back and likes possession football so hopefully it would be a good fit in that sense too. X 1
StriderHiryu Posted 27 August 2018 Posted 27 August 2018 (edited) Sounds like a good idea. Puel alluded that the deal was opportunistic in that when they found out that Dinamo Zagreb were willing to sell, they went for it because they thought he was a good player and well worth the money even if he's not going to go seamlessly into the first team. That league doesn't have the best quality, but the physical nature is similar to the Premier League and Championship, and hey Virgil Van Dijk played for Celtic and he didn't turn out too badly when he moved to Southampton. Popular Post Lesta Legend Posted 27 August 2018 Popular Post Posted 27 August 2018 It is odd and lazy to simply refer to him as Turk, its difficult to pronounce, not to spell his name However to say it's highly offensive is ridiculous, can people stop with this PC nonsense for fear to offend. I'm a second generation immigrant and I'm immensely proud of my heritage and unique last name. But i am proud to live in a country that offers the freedoms to speak your mind without fear of persecution - the PC culture here goes too far sometimes - call raciscm and hate speech out when it happens, but this highly offensive. Jesus wept. Oh and Benkovic, i can understand one for the future but I'm not sure he came from a champions league club to be loaned out. 10 1
