Two huge new screens going up inside King Power Stadium

Work is underway installing two huge new screens inside the King Power Stadium.

Steelwork is going up 80ft above both ends of the pitch, prior to a series of screen sections being installed.

The club is staying tight lipped about the investment but Lift Mini Crane Hire, based off Aylestone Road, in Leicester, is working with the installers.

Crane Hire manager Kevin Concepcion said they had had to be careful not to put the lifting equipment on the pitch in the run up to Tuesday’s international match between England and Switzerland and the resumption of the Premier League season.

He said he understood the new big screens would replace smaller screens in two corners of the ground which show replays, scores and times during matches.

Mr Concepcion said: “We’re all Leicester fans here.

“We got the call from a team of contractors saying they had a tricky job to do.

“They needed someone who could work on a 4m area at either side of the pitch and be able to lift the steelwork and the digital screens that will go on it.

“We’ve not been allowed anywhere near the pitch.

“When they’re up the screens will be 20m long and 6m high, attached to the steelwork that is 25m off the ground.

“I gather the screen sections will be 600kg each and there will be around 10 sections on each side.

“We know cranes and lifting equipment and I don’t think there’s anyone else in the country that can meet their needs.

“We started work last Monday and will be moving away for Tuesday’s match then back in again after it.

“If you watch the England match on TV you’ll see the steelwork that we’ve helped put up – I think it’s going to take six or seven weeks per screen.

“It’s such a big task it might even take a bit longer.

Concepcion lol what a name.

That's got to one of the old boxing brothers from Leicester surely?

Can't be two Kevin Conceptions.

I heard about this a couple of weeks ago, although I was led to believe they were going over the East and West stands but obviously not. Going to be massive and better quality apparently.

Good news. More improvements. There was a comment from Vishai a couple weeks back about an improvement in the stadium coming this season.  I did wonder then if it might be screens large enough you could actually see!

Wonder what they're doing with the old ones. Shouldn't mind one of them in the lounge.

i expect Vichai has a few rooms knocking about where they would actually look a bit ‘lost’ .........

I’ve not been so excited since we began to install that second hand American ‘full colour’ screen to go above the Exec boxes at Filbo...

Let’s hope for a better result this time!
