He is aware that the U21 PL is different to the actual Premier League, right? God the man is infuriating, he's dispacble.

who was the £20,000,000 signing?

To be fair to him, he said "a player worth £20m". Maybe that's his valuation of Choudhury or Diabate or one of our rising yoof...

Fleetwood Town boss Joey Barton accused Leicester City’s Under-21s of “lacking class” after their CheckatradeTrophy draw at Highbury last night.

READ MORE Match report: Fleetwood 2 Leicester 2
The 10 men of Fleetwood were denied a win in their opening group match as Ryan Loft scored his second of the night with the final kick to earn the Foxes a 2-2 draw.

Barton’s men had raced into a deserved 2-0 lead courtesy of Chris Long and Conor McAleny, but they ended up settling for one point after Cian Bolger was sent off.

A Leicester side including Danny Simpson took home an extra bonus point for winning the penalty shootout 7-6.

Barton was angry at the way some of Leicester’s young players conducted themselves during and after the game.

“It’s disappointing but it’s still a draw,” he said. “Our lads are disappointed because we absolutely battered them. I know we made 10 changes but we told the lads there were opportunities to push hard for the first team. I thought to a man they were excellent.

“We almost saw through the job, and until the sending-off we were dominant and probably should add a couple more.

“They’ve had a £20m signing on the pitch and a Premier League winner in Danny Simpson.

“But anyone who was here would have seen the difference in class. I’d be very surprised if any of their boys end up playing for the senior team, whereas we’ve got lots of young lads playing for ours.

“The conduct of some of them is a bit suspect, talking to our players about how much they’re earning and stuff like that. It lacks a bit of class. In that respect, I think this is a worthwhile experience for them because they’ve just been outplayed by a team two divisions below.

“They got very lucky with the penalty shootout. I was disappointed we didn’t win it because we were better in every single department for 75 to 80 minutes of the game.”

That sentence manages to be both bizarre and needlessly spiteful at the same time.  He's one of those "always the victim" types isn't he? Like a mini Mourinho.  X

Seems as though he expects a certain level of behaviour to which he is unable to attain himself. The word hypocrite springs to mind.

I agree, having digs at young boys seems very classless.

Do you think Barton was excluding Choudhury and Knight from that sentence seeing as BOTH have already played for our senior team...?!?

I can't decide if he is a complete wind up merchant or whether he is one of those that does such mental gymnastics that he actually believes it all?  X

Trying the distraction technique I think. Bad management to lose points in extra time.

A combination of BOTH is probably the most accurate answer...! :)

The quote says “a £20m signing”.

To misquote George Galloway, “being told by Joey Barton that you have a lack of class is like being told by the hunchback of Notre Dame to sit up straight”. ?

There’s loads of sledging that goes on in professional sport, football included. I’d be amazed if the Fleetwood players hadn’t dished out plenty themselves. I think the real reason for Barton’s outburst was to divert attention from his team throwing away a 2 goal lead late on at home.

proper weirdo, of all the clubs to go after about youth surely right now we're not the one, with about half our squad being 21 or under and two of them just got England call ups.

an our youth players probably do get paid more than Fleetwood players, deal with it bro.

Joey Barton is nothing but a wind up merchant who goes on like he's intelligent but is actually as thick as two short planks. He's got what he wants though, people have bitten the bait.

Fair dos. I just watched the video and he definitely says "a player worth £20m" there.

So, unless he's been misquoted in the article, he's made 2 different statements....both of them complete bollocks! :D

Deciphering the incoherent rants of Joey Barton sounds like the kind of thing that would send a professionally trained linguist into a spiraling suicidal depression.

He's just deflecting. They had a man sent off, threw away a two goal lead and lost a penalty shootout. Also, they could have lost the game in normal time had we not missed a penalty. If they were the better team for 75-80 minutes as he says, that's a monumentally poor final 10-15 against a team of mostly youth players.

Take no notice of Barton, this thug should have been kicked out of football long ago. Whatever possessed the Fleetwood chairman to engage him is beyond belief.

As for "class", Barton wouldn't know anything about that not even the meaning of the word!!

According to reports, out injured for 3-4 months...!

We’re picking up a lot of injuries in the under 23s. I make that Hughes, Muskwe, Eppiah and Ndukwu all out for a while.

I think Muskwe and Hughes are quite close to being back playing again.
