Please somebody edit the thread title so that it's clear the numbers are/were for the 2017/2018 season

These numbers include (former) players such as Mahrez, Ulloa, Musa, Slimani who were on a fair wedge. Plus Robert Huth.

Stop misleading people and put it into context from the start. Bloody hell.

These are all playing for peanuts are they

Ricardo Pereira (Porto) Undisclosed Details
Jonny Evans (West Brom) Undisclosed Details
James Maddison (Norwich) Undisclosed Details

Schmeichel signed a new deal too and Slimani is still under contract here.

Did Morgan get a contract extension? I remember Puel talking about it earlier this year, but can't remember if Morgan signed.

Also, 15th highest wage bill is quite eye-opening. Above the likes of West Ham, Everton, AC Milan, Schalke, Valencia, Sevilla, Roma and Lazio... :nigel:

They may or may not be playing „for peanuts“, what‘s clear is that Ulloa, Musa, Slimani and Mahrez combined were responsible for a large chunk of last season‘s wage structure, no matter how long they were here for.

Besides, surely we had to continue paying at least part of Slimani‘s wages, whilst he was on loan at Newcastle.

Benkovic and Söyüncü I can‘t see earning that much as newbies in relative terms.

Didn't we all give massive wage increases to the title winners? Or am I imagaging it?

Huth and Ulloa would then probably take a sizable chunk off the wage bill, more than compensating for Soyuncu, Ward and Benk. And Mahrez must have been on enough to compensate for Ghezzal and Richardo.

We're still probably paying loads but I suspect the title winners skew our bill a fair bit.

And I don't care about giving our youngsters a pay increase. We're trying to become the best team in the country for youth development - you don't get there by skimping.

7th highest in the Premier league which seems reasonable for a team that won the title the year before. Hopefully leveled off a bit now Mahrez, Slimani, Musa etc off the books.

Will become an issue if we continue to finish mid table though.

And? We'll be below Everton and West Ham most probably when all the new ones are released. Team with 9th/10th biggest wage bill finishes 9th/10th shocker.

Plus, it doesn't take into account the "premier league tax". 50k per week here doesn't get you what £50k a week gets you in Germany or Spain in terms of quality.

Some are easily "gobsmacked" then forget that there a lot of pokes in the eye, when one decides not to do the background!!

Newcastle and no it was reported they payed 2m loan fee plus his 80k a week wage for the duration of loan

£3.25m

or 25k per minute of playing time

I'd be genuinely surprised if our wage bill has lowered since last season to be honest.

It'll be there or there about I'd image, whilst I think other peoples will probably have jumped quite a bit.

Original post amended with regards to the Newcastle situation.

Still, we don‘t know the details of the deal at the time - Newcastle paying his full wages has only been „reported“, never confirmed.

In the end, no matter how you‘d like to twist it, the fact remains that we‘re talking old numbers here and that a handful of big earners have left the club in the meantime.

My guess is that the wage bill has gone down for this season.

How id like to twist it? what by taking into account expenditure this season, as opposed to you just keep mentioning the players that have left

As for saying its only been reported, do you not think if it wasnt factual Newcastle may have come out and corrected the reports, as its somewhat of a PR disaster for the club.

Heres another couple to add

King was at Swansea for half the season

Maguire reportedly doubled wages

Yeah. Almost all of the big names got £80-100,000/week, 4-year contracts so it's not surprising.

I don't understand why you'd think it's gone down. We've bought more than we've sold, so what Mahrez earned is now totalled by 2-3 of the new players. Factor in yearly wage increases and new deals and we will likely be at least at the same wage level.
