davieG Posted 20 February 2019 Posted 20 February 2019 Celtic loanee Filip Benkovic discusses Leicester City plans for next season Croatian defender is currently sidelined with an ankle injury ByJordan Blackwell 13:15, 20 FEB 2019 SPORT On-loan defender Filip Benkovic has reaffirmed his intentions to return to Leicester City next season and challenge for a starting place. The centre-back, on loan at Scottish champions Celtic until the summer, counts the Premier League as the next challenge for him to overcome. The Croatian’s performances at Parkhead have been widely praised and he hopes to make a similar impact at City, although he admits he still has improvements to make. “Here, I’ve played a lot of high level games, which has helped me a lot,” Benkovic told Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti. “But I think I have plenty of room for progress. I need to work, to improve, to play in every part of the game, I just have to continue this kind of rhythm with strong work in training. “It is important to respect the coaches and team-mates and be honest in training and with everyone around you. “It's a formula for growth, a recipe for further progress. I think I'm on the right track. “I just have to believe in myself, and I definitely believe. I have never lacked self-confidence. “I want to make another step at the end of the season. I want to show that I can play in the English Premier League. “But I want to emphasise that I still have to make progress. I can still do a lot of work on my game to be an even more complete player, I just need to work. “I cannot wait for new challenges, I want more challenges, I set very high goals. I'll do absolutely everything to reach them.” Benkovic is currently sidelined with an ankle injury and is not expected to return until late next month. It is the first serious problem Benkovic has had since moving to Glasgow, having earned a reputation for being injury-prone while Dinamo Zagreb in his home country. “That's me, a magnet for trouble!” he added. “Before the injury, everything was super, I was just too happy. Regardless of this injury that, I hope, will not keep me from the field tor too long, I enjoy everything. “The games are every two to three days, the pace is a killer, but I feel great. I’ve played 23 games, I can feel the coach trusts me, which, of course, gives me an even greater dimension to my satisfaction. Now this has stopped me a bit, but I believe, not for a long time. “The matches here play at a constant speed, every two or three days. “At first I was lucky I started playing right away. I immediately earned the coach's confidence, giving me more confidence. The matches went one after the other, I felt better and better, there was no problem at all. “I hope it will be in the future, if this injury does not stop me, and that by the end of the season I will have played a lot of high-level games, enjoy every second on the pitch. “Of course, I believe that I will continue to progress and that my performance will be even better.” Before returning to City, Benkovic will head to Italy to represent Croatia Under-21s at the European Championships. He could be one of nine Leicester players competing for their nations, with Ben Chilwell, James Maddison, Demarai Gray, Harvey Barnes and Hamza Choudhury all eligible to represent England, with Alex Pascanu (Romania), Bartosz Kapustka (Poland) and Daniel Iversen (Denmark) also expected to be present. Croatia and England have been drawn in the same group and Benkovic has admitted his axcitement. “I can not wait for the European Championship.” he said. “We have a really great team, if we all get together, we can certainly make a good result. “No matter, the group is strong, with France, England and Romania. Many of these young players play in the strongest European leagues. “I know some guys from Leicester who play for England, they have a brutal team as well as France. However, we are not afraid of anyone. “All of them, France, England and Romania, have to respect us. So we will be setting up at the European Championships for the first time, with this winning mentality going in to the tournament.” https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-loanee-filip-benkovic-discusses-2564950

I didn't know that bit (in bold), which is a bit worrying. Otherwise, I like the sound of his attitude and he seemed to be getting rave reviews up there.
Stadt Posted 20 February 2019 Posted 20 February 2019 Sounds like he’s switched on. Good that we’re recruiting players with the right personalities again.

Not to say that he didn’t get injured but there were no English articles stating anything
mozartfox Posted 20 February 2019 Posted 20 February 2019 Playing on plastic did him the first time as he withdrew during the warm up. As I said earlier today on another thread, just get him back and ready for us. Celtic will be dumped out of the Europa League this week so playing against the dross that makes up the SPL is pointless now and will add little value in his future development. Hopefully some clever person can post this on their forum so they all stop dreaming.

But let's not forget the guy's only 21 years old, so it's possible those were natural side effects of the body's growth process.

I liked the recent article by Ghezzal too, really wanting to do everything possible to make it. Even if they don't make it here, I like that attitude, and it's the attitude we need around and throughout the club. I know these articles are often put out there by their representatives, but wouldn't it be nice to read something like this from Nacho?

He's better off there, until EOS, most likely a title under his belt..the biggest confidence builder, might also end up playing in a cup-final!!!! you misjudge spectacularly the experience, motivation and knowledge that he will be gathering by staying until the end.....ing there is only dross, when poster s underestimates other leagues!!!
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 20 February 2019 Posted 20 February 2019 Got a feeling he's going to be a monster for us. Him, Barnes, Ndidi, Gray, Maddison, Chilwell. YOOF.

Fox92 Posted 20 February 2019 Posted 20 February 2019 Plays in the SPL so according to a lot of people that's shit, remember? So why we judging him.

lcfc sheff Posted 20 February 2019 Posted 20 February 2019 He’ll be a top top player if we can keep him fit, as others have said hopefully it’s the bodies growth that is causing these injuries more than anything; after all he is a big lad
Father Ted Posted 20 February 2019 Posted 20 February 2019 Hopefully he brings Big Brendan with him when he comes home ?

Pretty minor compared to the thousands that will be available if the current muppet remains in charge.

Great attacking philosophy. Anything is better than this currently.

Particularly “the name of the player in this envelope will let us down before the end of the season” scene? Absolute joke of a manager.
