My assumption that they’ve delayed it for a number of reasons.

 

They’ve had numerous prospective plans drawn up, one of which was leaked, dated May last year. It appears that we might be getting a hotel, a fan zone, car parks and an indoor arena, all in the area behind the KP leading up to Aylestone Rd between the Eon building and the Raw Dykes site. 

 

Someone suggested a few pages/threads ago that the owners of the Eon site are  willing to sell the land but allegedly not before December 2020. 

 

We also took out a huge “payday loan” with an Aussie bank which will be repaid with the league prize money from the next two seasons and Man City’s instalments of the Mahrez sale. The amount isn’t stated in the documents on Companies House but one can assume it’ll be more than enough to pay for the £100m training ground and a stand expansion, hotel, fan zone and arena etc. This was arranged before Vichai died. 

 

I imagine we’ll get some plans at some point soon.

I think the idea has been put on the backburner. Realistically we would have to be a top six side on a regular basis to fill a 40 thousand + stadium and in any case, the extra revenue from another 10 thousand is chicken feed in the big financial workings of the club. If it goes ahead it would just be a prestige project. The new training ground is actually more important to the club in the long term and is the reason for it being done first. I hope it happens as it would look brilliant and show intent. But I've got a feeling we have to pay off our present financial commitments first.

I think that’s short sighted to be honest. 

 

We have the ability to give Premier League to people from as east as Peterborough, south as Northampton and west as places like Leamington/Stratford. 

 

Alongside because of the nature in how we sell tickets, I have family members who can’t get in and deny young kids a chance to watch their local team play. 

 

I understand the financing is a risk but if we can pull £7million out of nowhere to get Rodgers in, let’s do something sustainable. 

 

If it doesn’t sell out every week, who cares...as along as there’s no barrier to people wanting to watch Leicester play.

No it hasn't.  Friend who works down there says project still moving forward.

I would say the opinion of someone who knows someone that work's within the club, is probably more knowledgeable than someone that just states that they 'think' it's been put on the backburner, with no evidence to back it up.

Let's say 70% of the seats (calculations for 8000 extra seats to take it to about 40,000, so add 20% if you want to believe the stories about taking it to 42,000) are season tickets (the same proportion as the stadium as a whole), then you're looking at a minimum of around £5m per season on ticket sales alone, probably an extra £3m at least on matchday income, and highly likely a largely inflated corporate income. Overall, it's probably North of about £10 - £15m per season extra - or about 6.5% - 10% increase in revenue per season. That's before factoring in any fan zone income, hotel income or arena income as well, if they happen, which would probably not bring in an unsubstantial sum.

 

Not chicken-feed. We are in the "average" category for revenue in this league. Any way to generate more money is worth looking into.

Perhaps raising the season ticket price after so many years may help if we are so short of money?

The extra 8,000 seats aren’t going to be that much more profitable - it’s the extra hospitality that could bring in millions. Especially if we’re in Europe. 

 

(Not to mention the hotel and indoor arena)

If we were having a discussion about Asda in Thurmaston being extended and wanting to know the in's and out's. I think i'd trust the opinion of someone who's mate actually works in Asda, than some bloke who has decided it's not going ahead because 'that's what he thinks'.

You missed out the bit where I said " I think it's on the backburner"  read it again before being so aggressive. It was an opinion hence the " I think bit "  an opinion born out of there being no further progress from the original statements issued by the club and the very reason why this topic is continually being used to ask if anyone knows if there is any progress, which clearly there isn't. I did not mean to shoot down anyone if it came over like that then I apologise.

Does it get on anyone elses nerves with some of our fans obsessed that every seat has to be filled for every match despite leaving a situation where people can't get a season ticket or a ticket at short notice? I hope the club stick at least another 10,000 seats in, I don't think they'll have an issue selling most of them and there should always be a few spare on the day.

It’s a much better problem having to fill empty seats than fans missing out

Even a poverty club like Sunderland have a bigger stadium than us, that’s quite simply a disgrace. Of course we’ll fit. We should be aiming for 50,000 seater sell outs every week.
