BR’s first press conference

"I'll give my life for the club" said exactly the same thing to the Celtic fans before Christmas lol. If a big club comes calling he'll be scooting off at the speed of light. But like others have said, he has to do well here first.

He's got a lot of form for walking out.

If this refers to Watford/Reading switch it didn't quite happen like that. At the time Watford needed the money and when Reading approached them to speak to Rodgers they said yes as they wanted the compensation. Rodgers wasn't happy that Watford were happy for him to leave and so he left for Reading where he felt more wanted. This isn't too dissimilar from the circumstances that saw Big Nige end up at Hull.

Swansea/Liverpool was a no brainer so can't really be hold that against him and he got the sack from Reading and Liverpool. The Celtic one is the only weird one but can be understood from a professional point of view as proving himself against the whole pile of quality coaches currently working in our division is much more challenging.

I hope that's the end of having to listen to anything about a tinpot poverty club like Celtic.

It's funny how the whole world views Leicester as a bigger club than Celtic now apart from their inbred fans.

Nobody thinks Leicester is a bigger club than Celtic.  Celtic are much bigger that's just a fact.

The Premier League however is much bigger than the SPL.

Of course he will but then so would any other manager.

But in bold worries me a little - he’s either pessimistic he’ll get sacked or we’re a stepping stone. He also said the legacy phrase at Celtic too... Don’t break my heart, Brendan, just be good and stay with us!

I didn't interpret it like that. To me it came across as him saying you expect to be at a side longer (than six months / a year), so you have time to implement a philosophy and leave a legacy etc.

Warming to the fella rapidly. Like his positivity. Used the word *win* more times in this Press Conference than Puel did in all of his combined, and including after match interviews.

If you read my later post in response to Ric, I explain a little more on what I meant

Celtic currently have over £50m in the bank, and a stadium double the size of yours.

Leicester are a more ambitious club.  That's why he left.  Leicester are undoubtedly no small fries after your triumph a few seasons back, however.

Celtic are undoubtably a bigger club than us however unfortunately for them they play in an infinitely smaller league.

Whether people like it or not, the English Premier League attracts the best coaches from around the world, and in terms of players is comparable only to La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A.

In that context, we’re the very best offer Rodgers is going to get at the moment if he wants to work at the highest level League-wise. It’s as simple as that really.

Of course, he’ll do the same to us if he’s successful and gets offered one of the big clubs, but then he will have been successful and that’s all a supporter can hope for. Nothing lasts forever. We’ve been through all that with O'Neilll.

I can actually see Brendan Rodgers staying with Leicester, and creating a dynasty.

I'd say Liverpool were of a lesser quality than the current Leicester squad, when Rodgers arrived.

Brendan is famous for talking bollocks to cater to fans who are more interested in soundbites and smoke blown up their arse than supporting the team through thick and thin.

He needs to have the team progressing on from what Puel was doing, that's all that matters. Developing the squad, building for the future and looking for minimum top 10 finishes.

Anything less over the next 18 months and his silver tongue will count for nothing.

Yes but admit it we all longed for Claude to give us something to hang onto in his press conferences rather than the usual uninspiring monologues but it never happened. Would you rather a rousing optimism (that you know is bullsh*t, but at least it is amusing/motivating bullsh*t) or have your manager tell you that we cannot compete with the likes of Wolves and West Ham.  He can ladle it on as thick as he likes for me as long as we are winning a few games and producing decent football.

Celtic are content with being a big fish in a small pond. They enjoy winning trophies every year, and bowing out early in the champions league stages. If they had ambition, they would have joined the Premier League ages ago. They could have retained their manager, and had real money spend in the transfer market to compete in Europe (should they have qualified).

They can look outward and blame Brendan Rodgers for being disloyal, and they can blame Leicester City for poaching their manager, but the real blame lies at their own feet. They had the chance to evolve with the changing landscape of world football, and they chose to stay the same. Now, Premier League money has become the great equalizer, and even a mid table premier league club is bigger than the likes of Celtic.

The SPL is a pathetic league.. Don't they play each other about 20 times to make up the number of games required to actually make it a league?

My favourite press conferences were when Pearson was here ?

BR out, he hasn't mention quality and intensity once......

He said we need to play with more intensity...I found the interview crap, far too much about BR at Celtic...but thanks anyway for the link urban spacedman. ;)

He’s more likely to play the lead in a remake of dynasty than to create one here and last a long time

If he is successful he will leave for a bigger job in two or three seasons

if he isn’t then he will more than likely be relieved of his duties

not sure how the middle ground scenario plays out but it could do if we have some good cup runs and then perhaps he would manage to see out his contract ....

stilll not a dynasty .....

There were probably more Celtic fans watching than Leicester ones so the Celtic questions were more relevant !

So nice to be able listen to a manager that can communicate clearly with us fans.

Puel really was so boring, and came across as very vague due to language difficulties.

I’ve just heard more in one interview about  how we plan to play, and the feelings of the team etc etc than I did in the previous 50 conferences.

Nothing more than I expected, but it’s so nice to want to, and be able to, listen to a coherent manager!

You can guarantee that he told 3 lies in that interview
