TheLittleBigMan Posted 7 March 2019 Posted 7 March 2019 There's been debates in the past whether Celtic/Rangers would compete in the prem and my understanding is it was looked into a while back. Personally I think they would struggle to compete. How about a cup comp? get rid of the league cup for it?
Russell sprout Posted 7 March 2019 Posted 7 March 2019 Ross county away on a Tuesday night, no thanks
OhYesNdidi Posted 7 March 2019 Posted 7 March 2019 WHy would Celtic or Rangers be able to join the prem? If they want to join English football, they should have to start in league 2. & no thanks. All Scottish teams are doggo and it would just make the competition worse in terms of quality and increase the rounds that have to be played.

They should begin at the bottom of the non-league pyramid and work their way up like Wimbledon did. It's ludicrously unfair on the loads of historic League Two and non-league sides to put them in League Two for nothing.
TheLittleBigMan Posted 7 March 2019 Author Posted 7 March 2019 I'd rather get rid of the league cup and not replace it with anything. FA cup is the only cup for me. Teams have to play far too many games imo. Just thought it was an interesting idea.
H.a.r.r.y Posted 7 March 2019 Posted 7 March 2019 Unfair for non-English teams to just walk into the league

Voll Blau Posted 7 March 2019 Posted 7 March 2019 Would be some great awaydays potentially if you could get the time off work, but the novelty would wear off very quickly. The players would hate it too.
Tuna Posted 7 March 2019 Posted 7 March 2019 They had national league sides competing in the Scottish Challenge Cup last year, Boreham Wood and Sutton United.
ScouseFox Posted 7 March 2019 Posted 7 March 2019 we could let scottish teams into the FA vase or something, that’s about their level

Snik-Snok Posted 7 March 2019 Posted 7 March 2019 I've always thought it would be a good idea. Replace the League Cup with an Anglo Scottish Cup, regionalise it in the early stages into 4 groups (South, Midlands, North and Scotland), and then mix it up in the last 16 or last 32.
Guest MattP Posted 7 March 2019 Posted 7 March 2019 Why anyone would want to import that level of sectarian bigotry into our national league or cup competition is totally beyond me.
yorkie1999 Posted 7 March 2019 Posted 7 March 2019 I very much doubt any Celtic fan would trade guaranteed Europe and trophies every year for a possibility of 6th in an English league knowing that they’d probably never see silverware for at least a couple of generations.

I like the idea of beating Forest, Derby, Villa and Celtic on the way to the latter stages Edit: also amused that it completely ****s off the Welsh ?

SheppyFox Posted 8 March 2019 Posted 8 March 2019 It would be irresponsible, the mental health of their fans is more important than seeing us English thrash them badly.

Actually, I think that would need to start in Screwfix North. That's how the Pyramid works here in England. The reformed Wimbledon started in the Surrey County League.

MGLCFC Posted 8 March 2019 Posted 8 March 2019 Celtic and Rangers would be able to compete in the Prem simply due to the fact they would have access to the same funding. Whether you like it or not, both Celtic and Rangers are big clubs, attract huge support and would attract top players if they were in the Prem.

They still wouldn't have anything like the funding of the top six though as they don't have the wealthy owners in place that they do.
